Where Chefs Eat on Vacation: Kwame Onwuachi on Finding the Best Jerk Chicken and Curry Goat in Jamaica

"The most expensive meal I had was at Usain Bolt’s Tracks & Records in Kingston. It was really good, chef’s kiss. It’s eventful, too—people dress up, there’s a line, there’s a huge wait for reservations. It feels almost like an upscale sports bar in America, and that’s exciting because in Jamaica that type of thing isn’t as common."

Visited Tracks & Records (Usain Bolt’s sports bar) to meet a friend and watch a cricket match (Australia vs. Britain). Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to expectations—especially given the brand. Getting the cricket game on was unnecessarily difficult. My friend had to ask 5–10 times before it was done correctly. At one point, staff were all in a meeting and no one seemed to have access to the remote. Eventually, we half-jokingly asked if we could do it ourselves. Service overall was lacking. Despite there being more staff than customers, employees were mostly socializing instead of checking on guests. I had to flag someone down just to get a menu and again to order a drink. It often felt like we were begging for service. The environment was also off. The large ceiling fan made the bar surprisingly cold—especially with barely anyone inside (I’m sure it’s helpful when it’s packed, but this wasn’t the case). The music was blasting for no reason, which made it hard to even hear each other sitting right next to one another. What’s the point of meeting a friend at a sports bar if you can’t have a conversation? Food was just okay. The red pea soup was too salty and overly coconut-forward. The oxtail with rice and peas (nearly JMD $3,000) lacked body and flavor—nothing to write home about or slap-ya-mama good. I did have it the next day, so that may have played a role. Drinks (Jameson & ginger ale) also tasted watered down, even over ice. Location note: the mall gets very congested during peak hours—a 15–20 minute drive easily doubled. The mall itself has several other restaurants. I’m very supportive of local establishments and truly wanted this to be better. Given the name and reputation, I expected stronger service, better attentiveness, and higher overall quality. Overall: 3 stars.

It got really good ambience showcasing Usain Bolt's records. But they got not many vegan options and bit disappointing food standards

Me and my buddy sat at the bar, we really enjoyed our visit. Staff was awesome, Rum Punch was good, food was good, my fritter was over cooked but they quickly corrected the issue, I will be going back next time in Kingston.

This restaurant has earned its affiliation with the legendary Usain Bolt. From the moment you enter, you see wonderful mementos of Jamaica and are greeted by some of the best staff in the industry. The restaurant is large and meticulously decorated to pay homage to Bolt's upbringing in Jamaica. Our server, Simone, was delightful. She greeted the entire table with a smile and made sure we had whatever we needed from beginning to end. I adored the red peas soup so much that I ordered a 2nd round. The only thing that it was missing was our traditional "spinners" dumplings. My fried fish was sumptuous! I replaced the sides with some white rice and oxtail gravy and was thoroughly satisfied with my choices. Everyone else in my party loved their dishes as well. We can confidently provide two thumbs up for our visit and would definitely recommend others give it a try as well.

My friends invited me out the night before I leave the beautiful island of Jamaica 🇯🇲 . We all went to Track and Records the food was ok but what got my attention was the Spicy ketchup that was on my table, so I tried it and I love . When I was finished with my meal my friend ordered 2 bottles of the Spicy Ketchup for me has a going away gift. When I got back to the USA and tried it I felt robbed, more like Catfish 😩 it was not the same. If you are buying it buy the one on the table or open it right there.

Service is lacking and the staffs are rude and incompetent. Inability to take and deliver orders correctly, We were served our meal with no cutlery to eat and the waiter was oblivious to that fact. There is a ridiculous restaurant policy whereby you must order a meal before you can order from the drinks menu. I wanted to drink a few cold beers after a stressful day browsing coronations market and downtown Kingston. Didn’t feel like ordering any food because I didn’t fancy what was available to serve on the day because some of the items weren’t available. I was part of a large group of around 10, everyone else had food. Waiter was not a great fit for what is truly a beautiful sports bar and restaurant. Enjoyed being able to watch live sport from my table. I had a taste from one of the platters, Jerk pork was tough and had no flavour. I had a stomach ache almost immediately after eating the meat. The service was abysmal .. Food was okay, nothing to shout about. Music can be excessively loud and it feels more like a night club rather than a restaurant.

My family and I stopped for dinner. We had the vegan/ital pasta, oxtail dinner and a few drinks. The food was good 3.8/10, the drinks were priced very well but not string enough. Overall ambiance was great. And the service was also pretty good.

My husband and I went to visit in the afternoon, and the bar was quiet at that time of the day. We sat at the bar, and I had some different cocktails. They were reasonable prices and lovely! One thing to say about it would be when we sat at the bar it was too much breeze due to a big fan on the ceiling. Big shout out to the guy behind the bar called Sadiki. He was hard working and giving us good service 🫶😊 Thank you so much!
