Not all organizations that use "the USO" name are in fact the U.S. Congressionally chartered public service organizations (USO National) that offers/provides a whole host of community support programs and services for active duty military members, U.S. military reserve members, National Guard members from more than 52 state, district and federal territories, and DoD military retirees ... and their family members!
A case in point is the Bob Hope USO organization (Headquartered in the Greater Los Angeles Area), which operates the USO center at the Palm Springs International Airport.
I am a retired active duty Air Force veteran with more than 20-years service and possess a current retired military (picture) ID. I have served as USO Airport Center volunteer in years gone by, too.
Recently, I was traveling between Palm Springs International Airport and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on a major air carrier.
When I went to check into the Bob Hope USO Palm Springs Center, I was turned away/denied admittance because I would not show the Bob Hope USO Palm Springs volunteer my air travel boarding pass in addition to my current military retied ID.
No other USO airport center, in the country to the best of my knowledge/personal experience, adds to the standard requirement for a current, valid military ID for entrance to any USO facility ... a same day airline's boarding
As a matter of personal privacy, safety and security, I will only show my travel documents and government issue picture ID to authorized TSA agents, law enforcement officers and airline customer service agents ... period!!
