This is a must do! We had a great time here. There is so much to do and explore, plan on spending the day here. We started out inside the hanger pavilion. It was mostly filled with aircraft and a few vehicles. We then toured the USS Drum submarine. It was very fascinating. We then headed over to the USS Alabama battleship. It was so big we didn’t have enough time to tour everything. There is so much to look at and explore. We ate lunch inside the cafe on the side of the gift shop. The food was good and priced right. After the battleship closed we looked at the outdoor aircraft and tanks before we left. Make sure to visit the gift shop early because it closes before the battleship does. I don’t understand this from a financial standpoint. They are missing out on a lot of revenue from all the people leaving after the battleship closes. I would have the gift shop close 30 minutes after the battleship closes.

What a remarkable experience being able to go on one of the greatest engineering marvels of WWII. You can still feel the soul of the ship. It can be a little tricky getting around the interior of the ship and especially the USS Drum but it gives you a better sense of appreciation for what the sailors that crewed these beasts had to go through to protect this nation. I'll definitely be going again.

Awesome. Great memorial to all of our veterans. Never been in a sub before, that was really cool. I can go on an on about this place. USS Alabama was massive and you could spend all day touring it. Staff were very friendly and the facilities were very clean. All round great experience.

Google
This place is very cool. The battleship is massive, and you can go in all sorts of areas that are atypical to have access to on a tour. There is a restaurant on site near the ship, which has great burgers and cane sugar sodas. The submarine is quite small in comparison, but it's interesting to see the size comparison between the two. Lots of water planes and/or carrier planes both inside and outside the main pavilion as well, which were also very cool to see.

Steven Buendtner

Google
One of the coolest places to visit. Amazing collection of military war machines to view. You can spend all day there and it still wouldn't be enough. Clean bathrooms and a dinning hall available.

Google
Beautiful memorial with magnificent battleships on display outside. You can access the memorial and pay $5 per car for entry and buy additional tickets to jump on the ships. We found it clean, well labelled and awe inspiring. We went on a weekday and there was no queue but if you're visiting on a weekend, might be worth getting tickets in advance. Overall 10/10 would recommend.

Google
This is an absolutely fantastic place. Not only can you explore most of the submarine and USS Alabama, but the amount of tanks and planes outside these attractions is so great! There's access to the ammo elevator for one of the main turrets at the bow, and you can walk around in engine room 1. Almost everything, including the vehicles outside also have information boards, so that you can learn more about them. The best part though is that they have one out of the eleven SR-71's that are visible to the public. Great place full of military history, would recommend to anyone who's interested in any type of military vehicle.

Google
Absolute must see! Pack some good walking shoes as there are several flights of steps as you tour the park. Plan on staying about 4.5 to gain the full experience. I’m pretty sure you can complete the tour in half the time minus reading. We got there at open, everything flowed.

Miatsu K.

Yelp
This was an absolutely amazing tour that every American should see. Being on board an actual battleship that saw combat is surreal. So much history. This entire park was worth every cent of the admission. We had free run of the entire ship, including a submarine and large fields of old tank and aircraft. The staff were extremely nice and the place is clean and well kept. We spent hours upon hours checking into every nook and crane of these ships and displays. It would take another day or so to really see it all in depth. The gift shop is fun and has lots of fun gifts and keepsakes. If you're ever in Mobile, don't miss this museum. It's a true must see.

Brenna H.

Yelp
So much to explore and look at! Great for the whole family. Excellent for history lovers. Lots of info. Take tour or go at your own pace with a map. Not only the ship to explore but also a sub, planes, and other vehicles. Tip: not the best for handicap or elderly. There is a lot of steps and climbing.

Annie H.

Yelp
This park was so cool! We didn't get to tour the ship cause I ran a race and it ended in this park. However we got to walk around and see everything else. It was very interesting! Lots of things to see!

Linda S.

Yelp
Lots to see. Great movie. Huge ship! Put your gym shoes on! Steep steps/ladders.

Michael D.

Yelp
Short drive from our home in Pensacola. Awesome Military Aircraft Static Displays inside and outside the park. USS DRUM SUBMARINE was very eye opening trying to move thru the sub and how small and close the spaces are inside. I'm 6'4" and so happy I chose to serve in the Army and Air Force. Be prepared for alot of walking and climbing but it is all worth learning some of Navy History.

Garrett Z.

Yelp
It's not every day that you get to tour a WWII era battleship and a submarine all in one day, but at Battleship Memorial Park you get that opportunity in one tour. It was really cool to explore the submarine and battleship and crawl through the interiors of each. It really gives you a better understanding of what our brave and courageous sailors went through during WWII while serving on the seas. It was impressive with how big the Alabama was, it is virtually a vertical city on the seas and then you get to the Drum and see how tiny everything was on that sub. You are basically surrounded by torpedoes! Just touring the ships alone takes a good 2 - 2.5 hours and that is if you don't read everything. There is also a variety of other war vehicles including planes, tanks, and other boats. So much to see and explore. My family had a great time and we were able to make almost a full day of this location. Lots of great history and stories to digest and a lot of great examples of war vehicles from the past 80 years of American conflicts that bring history alive. I see this as a great opportunity for my kids to have fun but to also learn that the freedom that we enjoy and take for granted on numerous occasions was not free. More people need to be reminded of that truth. Hats off to this organization for striving to provide a place where that can happen. A big thanks to those who are serving or have served, we owe you a debt we can never repay. God bless you!

Yelp
Really enjoyed my afternoon at the USS Alabama. I am active duty military, so I got in for free. They give a discount for military dependents as well. Parking was $5. There is so much to see and read about so give yourself plenty of time! It took my husband and I about 3 hours. One of the coolest museums I've ever been to! If you're out of shape, it might be miserable for you as there are a lot of ladders/stairs to climb and small doors to climb through.

K A.

Yelp
Visited the battleship while on vacation at the beach. We got there as soon as they opened so we beat the crowd. Viewed the submarine first then the battleship. The battleship is cooled but some areas obviously are a little warmer. Lots of stairs and climbing to view all three sections (red, yellow, green) although some areas would be suitable for someone who has trouble climbing. Wasn't too expensive and the kids and big kid (husband) loved it! Would definitely revisit.

Haley K.

Yelp
By far one of the coolest experiences we've had!! My family visits places just for the museums, we've been to a lot, and this one was one of the best! The battleship is HUGE and you get to explore the entire thing. There are informational signs and displays and maps throughout so you know where to go. My boys loved climbing up ladders between floors and sitting in the gun turrets. Wry very cool!

Cole C.

Yelp
Museums do not get more interactive than this. A little boy's dream! You can walk through the sub and battleship and touch EVERYTHING. Hit any button you want! Turn that knob, sit in that chair, hop up on that bunk bed, climb that ladder. Between the interactivity and all the photos displayed throughout, kids can see what life was like on the ship. What a great opportunity to learn history, have fun, and possibly spark an interest in future military service. We'd previously been to the USS Midway, which my kids loved, and I think the USS Alabama Memorial Park was on par with that. TIP: We went in the middle of the week, but it was still quite crowded. Then as we were leaving multiple buses with school groups/camps showed up. My advice is to get there when it opens and see the submarine first. If you're pressed for time, take the red and green tours on the battleship first, then finish up with the yellow. The yellow is by far the longest and a little redundant, so if you have to cut a tour short, yellow would be the best one to skip out early on. Plan on 3 hours if you have squirrely kids, and 5+ hours if you're an adult group who wants to see and read everything.

Yelp
Drove almost 8 hours from Dallas Texas while we were on our family trip in there, my dad said last time he visited the "Mighty A" was around 16 years old in 1984. Actually I passed by twice and finally had a chance to see the splendid boat. This museum divide into 3 parts: The preserved weaponry area, USS drum submarine area and the battleship. Our self guided tour began from the visitor center, where the old fashioned military aircrafts were presented. They also had flight simulator on the corner and it was fun to feel the realistic fighter control system. One of my favorite was B-24 Liberator, same aircraft design as B-25 Mitchell which took the lead to bomb Tokyo in the Doolittle Raid. The submarine was in my opinion, gave the most detailed armament in all submarines. Its super cool going underneath the firing position of the torpedo tubes. Battleship definitely gives an A+, it will take 1.5-2 hours only by going through the main walkable area. If you tour specifically, it might take even longer from 8am till closing time. As a foreigner, I am still proud seeing how mighty American industrial power really are. By the way, you can go inside the 4500 ton main battery turret to see the loading mechanism. Its a unique feature compare to USS Iowa where some of that is forbidden to tourists. Again, I'm glad to have an opportunity to visit one of the patriotic project of the United States. Whoever operate this museum deserve a formal salute, because a lot of veterans weren't alive nowadays, finding a storyteller is very rare. Little tip: Most major connection between staircase can be very steep, so don't bring a stroller if you have underaged children. Be careful while you climb.

Yelp
As a veteran and history buff I was like a kid in a candy store! I just saw so many things that I was a fan of. I will say this, little legs and old legs can struggle with all of the climbing and walking... it's not for everyone! But to be in a ship that help shaped the free world as we know it was just so cool!

Te'onna P.

Yelp
This was an amazing experience!! First things first, you need more than 2 hours. We had no idea what to expect and were sad that we ended up having to rush thru things to try and see as much as we could. It was nice that some rooms had A/C as it was pretty hot. The history there takes your breath away and is just incredible. We spent almost an hour after the park closed, looking and reading about all the things they have outside of the battleship gates.

Mike M.

Yelp
This memorial park is one that I have visited several times in my life. There were 4 South Dakota class battleships built during the war and two are still with us to visit, Massachusetts and Alabama. The "Mighty A" as the Alabama was known is the centerpiece of this park which also includes the USS Drum submarine from WW II along with several aircraft housed inside the aircraft pavilion and outside. Last week, I visited on a rainy weekday. The aircraft pavilion has a few aircraft (propeller, jet and helicopter) inside and more sitting outside. The largest aircraft inside is a B-25 Mitchell from WW II. The displays here are fairly routine and plan on spending 30 minutes looking at the aircraft and reading the various storyboards. The USS Drum was added here in the 1970's and is located on land and involves a walkthrough from bow to stern typical of other subs that are on display around the country. These submarines are very interesting to tour because they are so small and you get to see so much of the boat. It's really amazing how small of a space 75 people lived and worked in. The Drum is a fine representation with both forward and aft torpedo rooms open along with other spaces such as the officers and crews mess and berthing areas (including the Captains cabin which is the size of an average closet), conning tower, bridge, engine and electrical spaces, etc. One tip....go slow as you walk through it especially going through hatches going from one compartment to another. There are MANY opportunities to bump your head into something metal including exposed screws. Budget 20 minutes for the Drum. Finally the Alabama (BB 60). What a beautiful ship from the outside. Especially in this setting on the edge of Mobile Bay. The Mighty A has 3 tour routes on board, Red, Green and Yellow. The first two are mostly below the Main Deck while the Yellow is mainly above including the Superstructure. Each tour takes about 30 minutes so budget about 1 1/2 hours for the whole ship. The only way to cut down on that time is to not do all 3 tours or walk quickly through each one. Also you will be going through multiple deck levels and therefore ascending and descending on ladders which are fairly easy. I found the tours to be interesting and enjoyable however I was disappointed with the last 7 or 8 stops of the Yellow tour. For some reason not explained on the map these stations were closed. They were climbing up in the superstructure going towards the bridge, etc. Therefore you could only go up to the battle bridge which is encased in armor. I believe that this park is worth a visit and that the Mighty A and Drum are worth visiting. BB 60 is not the best WW II warship museum in the US but it is one of the better ones.

Yelp
If you're into all things WWII Navy this is the place for you! Not only a Battleship but a submarine too that can be toured, and lot of airplanes and tanks you can right up to. A nice indoor facility too. I thought it was reasonably priced and offered a lot to see. Be warned, lots of walking around to be done. Great site, and plenty of parking. Reasonably solid gift shop too. Lots of great photo opportunities.

Leticia R.

Yelp
The museum, the battleship and the submarine tours were all amazing. It is a self guided tour and took us over an hour to get through everything. The employees are so kind and helpful and you can tell they take pride in being a part of the USS Alabama and its museum. There is ample parking and the grounds within and outside the gate are beautiful and well kept. I highly recommend.

Paul S.

Yelp
Pretty awesome park. It should be noted though, it's 5$ to get in and then 18$ to actually see the boat. So total 23$ for an Adult!! It was so worth it though. Ship was really cool. Make sure to take the tour guide paper book so you know what there is to see. The submarine and museum was also really awesome. I'd say you could spend a good 2-3 hours here. Longer if you take your time and appreciate what there is to see!

Jennifer D.

Yelp
By far the nicest and largest of the four similar museums I've visited (comparing to NYC, NJ and NH). When you pull in to the park there are quite a few planes, helicopters and jets to check out after you park. After just seeing the new Top Gun movie it was especially cool seeing the fighter jets in real life. There is also a kennel in a shaded area where you can safely leave your dogs while you explore. I have no idea what the cost is since we didn't have a dog with us. There is a small fee to park and if you're not interested in touring the battleship or submarine you can just walk around this area with no other fees. If you're looking to go inside you walk into the hangar where there are more planes on display. This is where you purchase your tickets. There are also restrooms in this building. There is also a virtual plane ride in here (extra cost). You will not be able to walk around in here without purchasing tickets first. After you're done here you can head to the battleship or submarine. Since it was an extremely hot day during our visit the woman selling us our tickets suggested visiting the battleship first since it was not air conditioned. We grabbed a self guide booklet and took her suggestion. There are three color coded and numbered self guide tours on the battleship. We did the green and yellow tours and this easily took us over an hour. The tours are very easy to follow by following the colored numbers through the ship. Considering it was 95° that morning and there was no ac the ship was not unbearably hot. Several areas were cooler than others and had fans running. Besides the deck (which has great views of Mobile Bay), the lowest level of the ship seemed to be the hottest. We decided to end our tour here and skip the red tour. We also decided to skip the inside of the submarine since the heat outside was catching up with all of us. There is a small gift shop and additional bathrooms in a separate building leading back to the parking lot. If you're into military museums this is definitely the nicest I've been to as far as the size of their collection goes. The staff is friendly and will gladly help with any questions. If you're going in warmer months go early. There is zero shade anywhere (besides the dog kennel area). The hangar is air conditioned but far from cold, the battleship is somewhat cool and the submarine is air conditioned. You can easily spend hours here exploring. The self guide booklet could be a bit more descriptive or maybe some better signage because some things I just couldn't explain to my kids when they asked.

Yelp
Review number 888. Had to save up until I had something for this milestone! THIS is something special. The USS Alabama was one of the last battleships commissioned for WWII. This is not a place to go if not up for a bit of a physical adventure. While there is a wheel chair route, one really does not understand the power of this museum until you crawl, climb, squeeze and get a wee bit claustrophobic seeing all you can see and read. This ship was a fast floating island fortress that projected a powerful United States of America. You need to go down into the engine room, crawl up into a 16" gun turret, then down to the powder room for that massive gun, through the hanging bunks, through sick bay, wander through the massive enlisted galley, up through the mast to the bridge and upper captains quarters to really picture what life was like for around 2500 sailors and Marines at sea. There is also a submarine to crawl through and a few significantly import aircraft on display. Go see the A-12. The B-52 is another must see. Plenty of others to look over. Our freedom and way of life was protected by the equipment on display. Don't forget people lost their lives using these items to protect us. I was sore for days and it was absolutely worth it seeing the items on display at this memorial park.

Teri W.

Yelp
Impressive museum. You get to tour a lot of the battleship which was cool. Having a submarine was a bonus. I didn't go down but my husband did and said it was tight.

Abigail P.

Yelp
Second time passing coming to Al and finally decided to go inside. It did not disappoint!! Parking is $5, & our entrance was $24 for 1 adult & 1 kid. Make sure you make time 1-3 hrs to tour the ship, submarine, outside models, & inside. There is so much to see, amazing views, machinery, knowledge, & stimulations. We did the one where you put a headset on and it was amazing! My 6 year old really enjoyed it, he was very excited about seeing all the antique models and learning about the past. This was a very pleasing experience, definitely recommend if near by. They also have a cafe and gift shop, also recommend to stop by, it was very nice! Amazing staff at the cafe, my kid ordered pizza and it was also good

Jeremy P.

Yelp
Pretty cool experience overall between the planes, submarine and USS Alabama. Well worth the price of admission.

Chris C.

Yelp
A must stop when I'm Mobile. The preservation of American history is the staffs top priority.

Fran G.

Yelp
This was so fun and interesting!! I would love to go through it ago with my grandkids!!?

Sue E.

Yelp
Very informative! Not barrier free. But admission is compensated for persons who can not climb stairs as there are a lot of stairs in the ship and in the submarine

May A.

Yelp
Great experience! We spent a good 3 hours in this historical museum. There was so much to see! There were three parts to this memorial park: USS Alabama Battleship, World War I Exhibit, USS Drum and lots of Park Memorials to visit: * Alabama Korean War Memorial * Vietnam Memorial * Fallen Guardian Memorial - honoring those whose lives were lost in service to the U. S. Coast Guard * Service Dog War Memorial - monument honoring the dogs who served our country * Fallen Hero 9/11 Memorial - tribute to Alabamians who have given their lives in service since 9/11 Sorry to bombard your feed with all my photos but I have a special place in my heart for our military. I have family members who served and are veterans and also currently on active duty. We did a self-guided tour of the battleship and the submarine. The WW1 exhibits included a Ford Model T and artifacts from the 42nd Infantry Division, famously known as the "Rainbow Division." General Admission is $15 (seniors 55+ is $13). So worth it. The memorial park is dedicated to those who served in all branches of the US Armed Forces and there were artifacts from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard. We saw tanks, boats, planes, memorials, and artillery throughout the scenic surroundings. Great experience in our tour of the southern states. Review #1704

Chris M.

Yelp
We are so happy to have toured the USS Alabama today. It's a good thing we arrived early because it took us 5 1/2 hours to see it properly. We were so fortunate to meet a volunteer named Michael cleaning in the medical section of the ship. He was so personable, and welcoming and knowledgeable. We thoroughly enjoyed our conversation with him and thank him for the time he spent with us. We were amazed at all the areas we were able to access. It's a self-guided tour and you are able to take as much time as you would like to soak up the experience.

Mike C.

Yelp
Located on the east side of the George Wallace Tunnel on Battleship Parkway, known locally as "The Causeway", the USS Alabama (BB-60), known as "The Mighty A", is a must-see attraction. But to classify it as an attraction does not do it justice, as it is a piece of history. As per Wikipedia, "she was the fourth and final member of the South Class of fast battleships built for the U.S. Navy in the 1930s", and saw action in WW II in at last 4 separate campaigns. The ship is permanently docked in Mobile Bay and is open for tours year- round. For being so old, the ship is very well maintained and is in pretty good shape. Much of the ship is air conditioned, which makes it very tolerable, even during the hot summer months. The self-guided tour is clearly marked and pretty easy to follow. I highly recommend wearing very comfortable clothes and a good pair of tennis shoes, as you will be doing a lot of walking, climbing and descending if you want to see all that the ship has to offer, as there are only a few areas that are off limits. Climbing into the main gun turrets really gives you a feel for how cramped working conditions were for the WW II heroes that worked there. The USS Drum (SS-228), a WWII submarine, is moored nest to the USS Alabama and is definitely work seeing. There is also a large air-conditioned hangar with military aircraft inside that is included with the price of admission. There is a really cool gift shop inside as well as "The Galley" if you want a quick bite to eat. However, I usually only buy water here, which is a definite must-have item while touring, as I prefer to eat at only of the restaurants on the Causeway. I've visited this ship at least 6 times, the last 2 with my son, and we never get tired of coming back. Can't wait to go again.

Seb A.

Yelp
Beautiful Museum. My oldest son and I enjoyed the whole ship, submarine and planes. My girls and youngest son not so much. They ran out of patience. I guess its not for everyone. It was raining the day we arrived to visit but we made it work. Glad for the experience.

Reid C.

Yelp
This Museum was WELL WORTH the trip from New Orleans. Both the USS Alabama and USS Drum are in immaculate condition, considering they are both 80+ year old vessels. While we were there we got to talk with some veterans who were there volunteering, and they were all very knowledgeable and willing to show us parts of the vessels we hadn't seen. We did not sign up for the guided tour, and next time we go, we will do that to have a more structured tour of the Alabama. I highly recommend making the trip to Mobile if you have even a slight interest in US Naval history!

Esther M.

Yelp
Great road trip stop. So much history and information. Be sure and ask for closing time as the gift shop and submarine close at different times. A must stop for families.

Tim

Yelp
They were painting and the fumes were horrible do not bring a little kid or you will regret it

Dalton W.

Yelp
This place is awesome! It isn't every day that you get the chance to walk around on a battleship, but there is so much more here. They have a WWII submarine, TONS of aircraft, and even some tanks. This place is something you don't want to miss if you have the time to stop by!

Kate F.

Yelp
I did a smidge of research on this place before we arrived (looked it up at lunch while in Pensacola)... so much more than I had expected. We did self guided tours of the USS Drum Submarine, USS Alabama & walked through and saw tanks, planes, helicopters. So cool!!!! It was not super crowded, my 6 year old son led the tour so our whole tour took about 1 hour, there was more to stop, look at and read, but we were on the fast track. Yes, I hope to go back one day what a great stop.

john g.

Yelp
So awesome! We went here on Memorial Day coming back from Gulf Shores so we don't stay as long as we could/should have. We were here for about 2 hours. They have one big battle ship, a submarine, tanks, planes, helicopters etc. You can only walk through the ships. Walking up the ramp to board the USS Alabama you couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and sadness. Pride in the fact that we are democratic republic and are a free country and that millions have served our country. Sadness and heart break came from the thousands and thousands of men and women who laid down their lives and who's family suffered because of their tragic loss. And not to mention the emotional anguish of family of loved ones whose family member did come home safely but who's lives were in constant danger. So thanks to those who served our county. Thank You! The ship is just awesome, I mean it's badass. It's history is fascinating, the engineering is mind blowing and you get to walk in the massive vessel where 2500 men and women lived on during WWII. It's the anchor to the Veterans Memorial Park which is "Dedicated to all Alabama Citizens who have worn the uniform of all branches of the United States Armed Forces" Check it out and plan to stay longer than we did!

Logan W.

Yelp
Awesome trip. Very glad we toured the battleship and the submarine. I am not a big history nerd but I still had a blast with my husband here! Well worth it for the price and time !

Stella C.

Yelp
Great piece of history for our country. The battleship was so technologically advanced that they even has a sick bay with on site xray! It was educational and fun to see this. If you are un the area definitely check it out

Daniel B.

Yelp
Incredibly well done experience! The main hall is great, the ability to walk through the submarine was eye opening, but the tour of the Alabama was more than worth the price of admission itself. The three different routes with step by step directions and explanations provided a really deep insight into so many aspects of the ship. Highly recommend - even for someone not hugely into military history since I am not and I still really enjoyed!

Seth A.

Yelp
The USS Alabama Memorial Ship....probably the biggest and best highlight for visiting the Gulf Coast city of Mobile. I very much enjoyed my time and visit here. It's located just outside downtown Mobile right on the banks of the water. It's $15 per person for general entrance and unusual...$4 fee for parking. But since this was my first time visiting Mobile, I looked the other way on the $4 parking charge. Even before I went through the entrance gates there was a terrific looking aircraft perched atop the sign stating...USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park...I had to pull my car over to the side and get a picture of this. After the $4 fee, there's plenty of spots to park at. I arrived here on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't too crowded. In this parking space section...there were all sorts of tankers, artilleries and planes where you can walk up close to them and get a real feel for these vintage warcrafts. This area, known as Battleship Park was terrific for family photos. Although...most of the military equipment had a sign stating..."no climbing". Overall, it was still worthwhile to walk around and explore the grounds. Before getting to hop on board the USS Alabama...I walked around the Medal of Honor Aircraft Pavilion. Here inside there's featured an "extensive aircraft collection, historic vehicles and war artifacts". This building is "dedicated to all of Alabama's Medal of Honor Recipients". I used about 20 minutes just strolling around here and grabbing a few pictures of the jets. But now...onto the USS Alabama. Walking outside the Aircraft Pavilion...my first instincts were to find a way to best capture this ship vessel in it's entirety for the best photos. I discovered that walking to the front end of the ship was the most feasible way to grab some memorable moments. I wasn't able to photograph everything...but it was good enough. Before walking on top of the platform to gain access to the USS Alabama, there was a statue of "The Oath". This was simply a reminder to those that were part of the USS Alabama crew that they "solemnly swear to support and defend the Constitution of the United States." I appreciated this monument. Now boarding the USS Alabama...it was surreal! The ship deck offered all sorts of walking area to explore among the vessel including just a ton of wide open space to wander around on. I was able to snap some picturesque angles from the ship deck. Even the views looking down on Memorial Park were scenic. What best won me over about my experience onboard the USS Alabama was that not only was it self guided where you can browse around on your own terms, but there were numbered points of interest where all you have to do is just follow the signs starting at 1. In total, there could have been roughly 60 spots to explore at. This was a very clever idea in that I was able to cover the ship from top to bottom. I must have used about 2 - 3 hours on the boat hanging out. Granted, I was in no rush. But I really believe that just getting a glimpse into what life was like onboard this retired warship really had me at a moment of patriotism...witnessing firsthand the base for where our military fought for our freedoms...I felt proud to be an American! Along the USS Alabama, it allows you access to almost everywhere throughout the vessel. Some of my favorite highlights were... - The listing of the different wars and conflicts the ship was involved in...including all the details, dates and reasoning for the battles. - A Theater Section to view a short film on the history. - Some relics, details and artifacts about Memorial Park - All the names of the 1942 - 1947 USS Alabama Crewmen. - The living quarters with triple cot bunkbeds. - The Ship's Store to buy candy and cigarettes. - Name of the Commanding Officers during World War II - Section where the officers had their meals and what types of food they ate. - Framed uniforms from past service duty members. The Gift Shop was situated near the exit when leaving the USS Alabama ship and returning to Memorial Park. Inside...there were some real unique souvenirs and collectibles to remember your time and experience here. I purchased a couple of items including a keychain, patch, sticker and a few colorful postcards just as some fun memorabilia and keepsakes. Overall, visiting and wandering around the USS Alabama was one of the best activities I did for my first time in Mobile. I absolutely left the grounds and Memorial Park feeling so proud of our past and it certainly reinforced why we have brave citizens out on the forefront battlegrounds fighting for our freedoms. I was truly grateful for departing Mobile with a much better understanding of what the USS Alabama and Battleship Memorial Park were all about.

Yelp
Wow. I cannot say enough amazing things about this place. It is perfect for any age group or occasion (except those with mobility issues as going into the ship requires navigating small spaces and many stairs). The ship is beautifully preserved and the tour is very easy to follow and shows visitors a thorough view of all of the major areas of the ship. Reserve at least 2 hours to go through all of the tours, the plane hangar, and the USS Drum submarine. The entire place is well worth it and a unique opportunity to dive deeply into American history.

Yelp
"You sunk my battleship!" Well, only if you are playing the board game. This ship is built like a "Brick $&%+house" A marvel to look at and commissioned into service in 1942. There is a parking fee of $4 per vehicle to gain access to the Memorial. The outdoor park exhibit is free but if you pay the admission fee it gives you access to the battleship, USS Drum SS-228 submarine and aircraft pavillion. The tickets are purchased at the main building which also serves as the gift shop. The admission prices will vary for age and sponsored groups, active military is always free with ID. The battleship has 3 self guided tours taking approximately 30 minutes each and broken into a Red tour route A, Green tour route B and Yellow tour route C. Make sure you wear comfortable clothing and sneakers since the battleship requires you to ascend and descend ladders. The passage ways are pretty narrow and if you don't exercise enough, this tour sure makes up for it. The ship has a lot to offer with fascinating facts of the ship The aircraft pavillion houses some pretty cool vintage and newer fighter jets. Take the time to read the description and historic details of the aircraft on display. The USS Drum SS-228 submarine is really cool to visit. It was pretty neat to see the torpedo rooms and maneuver through the tight quarters. A docent is positioned at the end/exit of the submarine who was extremely knowledgeable of the submarine reciting the ships specifications and will answer any questions you may have on submarines. The docent is also a retired veteran so it's always nice to thank them for their service to our country. If you have a few hours to kill this Memorial is worth the trip to visit.

Yelp
I am blown away by this memorial. We spent over two hours here and did not get to see everything so we will need to come back! But the two hours we didn't spend here was great! We spent most of the time on the ship. It is so well done with the exhibits inside all the rooms of the ship, you can basically go everywhere- all the way up and down the ship. If I could do it again I would start with the red and green tour track first and then finish with the yellow. The yellow tour takes you around the first floor and then up into the tower of the ship which was very time consuming because it was crowded and you had to wait for people to go up and down the steep ladders. The lower levels of the ship you get to see how the sailors actually lived with lots of well preserved memorabilia. Besides the shop there are tanks and aircraft and other army artillery to look at as well as a submarine that we didn't even get a peek at but as I said- we will be back!! Bring a picnic lunch, eat at the canteen or stop at a local restaurant! Highly recommend! My 5 and 8 year old enjoyed.

Yelp
This was an amazing experience for me and my son. He has a high school history teacher that is part of a reenactment they do every year with planes flying and " shooting " the big guns. The sound effects are amazing. It put a lump in my throat!

Yelp
I'm a sucked for a good museum, and this one was no exception. I simply loved getting to tour an old battleship and submarine. It was really cool seeing what it looked like from the outside and from within. The views from the top were really cool!

Yelp
Great museum. Incredibly in-depth experience. You see and feel more of a WWII battleship and submarine than at any other I've visited. Allot 4 hours if you want to see/touch/read everything. Otherwise, you can do it in 1.5 to 2 hours. WEAR GOOD FITTING, COMFORTABLE SHOES!

Yelp
Awesome walking through this museum you can go through the different levels of the ship and really get up in there but be careful in the upper and lower sections hard for bigger people to get up and down but still amazing views if your able to.

Yelp
It's very cool. It's a very important piece of our history. It's very cool to be able to put yourself in the shoes of our service men for a fraction of time. That being said, if you have kids under 10 with zero interest in history, wait a bit. Wait until they can process what they're seeing. Otherwise, it's a giant jungle gym to climb up and down the stairs....and up and down....and up and ip and up and up....and down down down up down up down. And it's so segmented that you do very easily lose your group if you're not right next to them.

Yelp
If you're looking for a unique and amazing experience, go visit the USS Alabama site. It's something everyone, young or old, will enjoy. There's much more than just the main attraction. There are humorous naval historical displays as well. Check their website for special events, that you won't want to miss. Hungry? Their are several great seafood restaurants nearby, most with fantastic water views.

Yelp
Give yourself at least 4 hours if you want to see everything. I would say at least 6 hours if you want to stop and read everything. This is a self guided tour so you can go at your own pace. I enjoyed the aircraft pavilion probably the most. They have several military aircraft, helicopters, and displays that were very interesting. I'm a aircraft lover so you might not feel the same. The USS Drum (submarine) was very interesting. I would avoid the submarine tour if you don't like tight spaces. We rushed through the ship because we were in a hurry to get home. There were several places on the ship that we didn't spend as much time as I would have liked. I would definitely go back and take the tour again. My only wish is that the ship was a guided tour. It's easy to get turned around and accidentally skip a section once you go below deck.
