I would fill this box with stars, but, I think in this case a picture is not worth a thousand words. I was in a nursing home and none of the nurses were interested.(I had sepsis). I boiling hot and the next minute freezing cold. One night I could not stand it and demanded to be taken to the hospital. It took a few hours and a lot of screaming on my end until a nurse finally called for ambulance. I was pretty much out of it and remember almost nothing of what happened next. From what I was told I was delirious and had a bacterial infection in my entire bloodstream that was similar to MERSA. I also needed to have 2 heart valves replaced and the third valve had to be cleaned and the bacteria cleared from by system. My cardiologist said it needed to be a larger facility and with the blessings of my family, I was transferred to UT Southwestern. During the time of the transfer my Cardiologist contacted a classmate form medical school by the name of Jay WESTON. I don’t know how long to get operating room staff together including additional Doctors. The operation took around 6 hours. Considering I am writing this review. I think we can assume that the operation was a success. It’s several months later now I am in cardiac rehab. I’m starting to feel much better and determined to make the rest of my life meaningful. Yea to my cardiologist Amir Amin MD, Dr Jaye Weston Md and the other Doctors in their crew, the other folks in the operation the nurses and all those other department that sent staff to see me daily. It’s been a night I’ll never forget. I ended up in the ER at UTSW because the pain I’ve been dealing with became absolutely unbearable. I tried everything I could at home — every medication, every trick, every bit of advice from my doctors — but nothing was helping. When Chris got home from work and saw the state I was in, he told me we needed to go to the hospital. When I got there, my blood pressure was sky high, my heart was racing, and they had to do an EKG because I was tachycardic. I was scared and in so much pain, but I thought at least I was in the right place to get help. After waiting about an hour, I was finally called back — and that’s when things went from bad to worse. The doctor who came in, Dr. Avi Ruderman, made me feel completely hopeless. He refused to treat me because he said he “didn’t feel comfortable.” He told me the only thing he could do was what I was already doing at home — but that’s exactly why I was there in the first place. When I tried to ask questions to understand what was happening, he told me “the healthcare system is broken and you should get used to it.” I just sat there, in pain and disbelief, being told to get used to suffering. He was cold, dismissive, and clearly irritated that I was even there. I can’t put into words how small and unseen he made me feel. I left that ER in tears, not because of my pain — but because of how completely dismissed I felt as a human being. I do everything my doctors ask of me. I go to every appointment. I follow every recommendation. I fight every single day to manage this pain. And when I finally reach my breaking point and ask for help, I get treated like I don’t matter. I’ve never felt so defeated or so heartbroken by the healthcare system. I just wanted someone to care.

i understand that ER wait times are notoriously long, but this place is so incredibly inefficient that it straight up just pisses me off. took my father here for a suspected UTI and we got checked in and into an ER room fairly quickly. they collected his urine and we waited for TWO hours before a doctor spoke with us, but all she did was assess him and say “we’ll see what the urine results are.” shortly after, the nurse who collected his urine came in to inform us that she will be sending the urine to lab. SO FOR THOSE TWO HOURS WE WERE WAITING FOR THE DOCTOR, THEY HADN’T EVEN SENT THE URINE FOR TESTING. fast forward to ANOTHER hour of waiting for the results, they tell us nothing’s wrong but that they want to do blood work and an xray. I FAIL TO SEE WHY THEY DID NOT JUST COLLECT THE URINE AND BLOODWORK ASAP. we have been here waiting for over SIX hours for each individual test result because of their inability to save time by working efficiently.

Dr. Ghebermicael will end up killing someone with his negligence, bias, and ego. My care at UTSW prior to Dr. Ghebermicael being put on my service was solid. I particularly felt like Dr. Byrd was top notch. The majority of the nurses were also great. Dr. Rafferty (Psychiatry) was compassionate and well-informed. This is why the review is 2 stars and not 1. As soon as Dr. Ghebermicael took over as my hospitalist, he decided to spin a narrative that my physiological symptoms were psychological. He documented anxiety when anxiety was not endorsed and not present. This led to a series of events (which constitute actual medical malpractice - performance of a procedure that differed from the one I consented to and that resulted in hours of unnecessary distress) that ultimately culminated in my being discharged while still unable to tolerate food and water by mouth due to untreated intractable nausea and vomiting. Since being discharged I have already had to receive Iv fluids in the ER. My Phosphorus and magnesium have continued to trend downward. I have continued losing weight. I have been unable to coax my body out of ketosis despite continued efforts (efforts made dangerous due to the risk of refeeding syndrome while attempting to nourish myself after prolonged starvation without medical monitoring). And the tachycardia that was marked resolved was present the very day I was discharged. I was still on continuous fluids the day I was discharged. I was still unable to tolerate more than 10-20% of PO intake the day of discharge. I still had worsening abdominal pain the day of discharge. I was still vomiting multiple times a day. I believe my hastened discharge was retaliatory as I had reached out to Patient assistance about Dr. Ghebermicael and requested he be taken off my services. The very day I follow-up on that request is the very day that he documents a remarkable recovery and has me discharged. Up until 11/17 I met actual criteria for severe malnutrition and required some sort of nutritional intervention. 11/18 Dr. Ghebermicael and Sunny (from EASY team) conclude that my BMI and lack of temporal wasting and clavicular prominence mean that I am no longer malnourished and am safe to starve at home while waiting for my gastric emptying study on December 17.

Excellent Surgeons, Predatory & Deceptive Billing Practices - UTSW might have some of the most talented surgeons in Dallas—but the billing practices are deceptive, opaque, rigid, and patient-hostile. I was scheduled for a 30‑minute, minimally invasive laparoscopic hernia repair (no mesh, outpatient, two tiny 2 cm reducible hernias). My consult was in April; surgery was scheduled for late July. Just two weeks before the procedure, UTSW texted me a cost estimate for $18,500. They had coded it as a major open abdominal hernia repair with mesh under CPT 49591—a far more invasive and expensive procedure than what was actually planned. When I questioned this, I was told by the billing counselor over the surgeon’s department that UTSW has a blanket policy mandating this code for all hernia repairs—regardless of surgical approach, complexity, or setting. No exceptions. No flexibility. This is a textbook example of upcoding—where a higher-cost procedure code is used in place of the one that matches the actual treatment performed—and patients are the ones who pay the price. When I asked if the correct outpatient code (CPT 49650) could be used or if the procedure could be done at an ambulatory surgical center, I was told “UTSW doesn’t allow that.” My out-of-pocket cost with insurance was quoted at $6,566. Their “self-pay discount”? $11,700. The average cost for a similar insured outpatient procedure in Dallas is $2,500–$3,500. The estimate arrived just weeks before surgery, giving me no time to shop around or plan. I’ve had to cancel the procedure and start over elsewhere—at great cost in time, money, and trust. UTSW may be a respected clinical institution, but financially they operate like a monopoly—prioritizing billing over patient care and transparency. If you’re on a high-deductible plan or paying out of pocket, be prepared for inflated charges, rigid systems, and billing practices that raise serious ethical concerns. Read other reviews—this isn’t an isolated case.

In November 2024 I had a PET scan done and the results were suspicious for cancer. In December 2024 I was referred to UTSW for a small nodule in the upper lobe of my left lung that I had been monitoring since first seen on X-rays in 2021. I saw a Pulmonologist who thought it was just a mucous plug that we could treat with a round of antibiotics. I was prescribed Azithromycin. A month later a repeat X-ray was done and the physician notified me that module had not changed in size. The decision was made to biopsy the nodule and just see what it was. So in early February 2025 a biopsy was performed. On February 26, 2025 my results came back as squamous cell carcinoma. I was sent then to an Oncologist and a Thoracic Surgeon. Ultimately the decision was made to remove the nodule. I was scheduled for surgery on April 24, 2025. In the mean time an addendum dated for the same day as the cancer pathology report was done February 26, 2025, that changed the diagnosis to necrotic material and minute calcifications. However, I personally was never made aware of this change of diagnosis and so I consented to have the surgery which proceeded on April 24. Was my surgeon aware of the change? Was my oncologist aware? I don’t know but the surgery was performed and it ended up my whole upper lobe was removed. And in the end it was removed for no reason. I’m not sure who dropped the ball but someone did and I’m the one who is now suffering from their misdiagnosis and needless surgery and removal of my left lung. No one seems to care that they messed up. Now it’s hard to walk very far or walk very fast because I get so short of breath, my stamina is not what it was before the surgery. I went to UTSW because of they reputation but in the end they really messed this up. I won’t go back to that hospital for any reason..s

Google
My review would be five stars, save for one systemic issue; UT southwestern does not have any primary Care doctors, family practice doctors, general practitioners, or internal medicine specialists that accept Medicaid plans for primary care. A disabled person with many complex health issues, this leaves me in a situation of always having a primary care doctor who is out of "the know" when it comes to my medical history. I do my best to report and share records as I am able, but most clinics do not give me full history or records, only clinical notes and summaries. This makes it harder for my primary care doctor to trust me. Specifically, the primary care doctor has no idea if my disabilities are permanent or not. This is a major issue for me, because I believe that my degree of disability may actually qualify me for Star Plus level of Medicaid care, but because I cannot seem to find a single doctor who is willing to advocate for me to receive that care, I can't access it. I would either like it to be much, much easier to share records between my providers, or I would like to see a primary care doctor at UT southwestern. I do not think it is reasonable to accept Medicaid plans through most if not all other specialists at UT southwestern, but not their primary Care doctors.

Lately my experience with ut southwestern has been quite stressful and frustrating. Their imaging staff especially MRI is very unprofessional and at times rude. Pls avoid going there if you do not want any additional stress. There are many other great hospitals in DFW area.

Yelp
I don't wish brain surgery on anyone, BUT, if you have to have it, go to the BEST, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Brain surgery on my wife's 70 th Birthday made so special by the Neuro ICU Staff, AWESOME!!!

Yelp
I have attempted to schedule a neurology consultation for my wife regarding Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery, and the process has been a total nightmare. After five separate calls, I have encountered nothing but incompetence and conflicting information from the administrative staff. The communication hurdles are constant. I was initially told I needed a specific permission form to speak on my wife's behalf. After securing and submitting the necessary documentation, they still refused to speak with me, claiming they now required verbal consent--something they previously stated was not the protocol. DBS is a major, life-altering procedure. If this level of administrative disorganization is a preview of the care and coordination my wife would receive during surgery, I am deeply concerned. A world-class medical facility should have a staff that knows their own policies. At this point, I have zero confidence in their ability to handle a complex surgical case if they cannot even handle a phone call.

Yelp
If you love calling people at a call center and waiting a week for a call back from a receptionist, this is the place for you! It's a huge corporation and your doctor is just a cog in the wheel and it shows. I've seen several doctors at different times at UTSW and always ended up going somewhere else. The doctors also aren't great; they have too much pressure to see as many patients as possible, bill as much as possible for unnecessary procedures, and have no interest in figuring out what's wrong with you. There a lot of great hospitals and medical providers in this city, no need to go here.

Yelp
The office was great! The Dr at Simmons oncology spent 8 minutes with my husband. He said the vision field test was faked and a lie. He said the cyst appeared the same size so they were read incorrectly, see you in 6 months. The MRI's were read by a Neuro-Radiologist, so I am sure he knew what he was doing. The vision field test was completed by an Opthamologists, yet again another Dr. My husband has symptoms regarding the 2 pituitary adenomas. This Dr was extremely dismissive and we were very disappointed with him. He will not be seeing us in 6 months. Shame on you! A disgruntled patient and wife....

Yelp
I have been treated here for the last 9 months. Excellent care and very few glitches with anything. My oncologist Dr Wilder is highly rated and has done a great job with both my care and keeping me informed and educated. His nurse Lisa is amazing and has answered my questions every time no matter how small or big they were. This system runs so much more smoothly than most large healthcare systems.

Yelp
Awful office operation. Was referred to the Otolaryngology Clinic, never received a call. Tried calling to make an initial appointment and the phone system hung up on me twice. Finally spoke to someone who said they didn't have my referral, but they would call me by the end of the week. Of course they didn't call. Tried calling the next week and they still didn't have the referral "in the system" but maybe it's on the fax machine! She goes to check and when she comes back, she magically can't hear me anymore. So she hangs up on me. Top notch operation over there. Good luck getting in to see a doctor if you get past the office operation.

Yelp
You can't beat UTSW if you need a procedure or surgery. They have quality staff because everyone wants to work there. With a few exceptions like my Orthopedic docs, UTSW has the best specialists. Their hospitals are top notch, modern and top of the line care. Even though I chose other docs for total knee replacement and foot surgery, their surgery centers are not as good as UTSW. On the other hand, UTSW primary care is weak. I have seen at least three of the doctors, all who were foreign, which brought an accent/language problem for me and a cultural difference. I didn't feel comfortable with any of them. I jumped to the other major hospital system and am happier as well as with the staff who are friendlier and more engaged. So yes to the specialists and hospitals and no to primary care.

Yelp
The Transplant Services here are well below average and are shoddy. I would not recommend them for anyone. Go somewhere else.

Yelp
First meal since Monday, and I'm finally crossing off the boxes - hoping to leave tomorrow. The doctor says I'm doing great! I have no complaints with this staff. After five years of medical battles, I can honestly say very few doctors show the kindness and compassion that Dr. Xue does. He has the precision of a plastic surgeon - thank God! His bedside manner has been top-notch, and his nurses truly care. He was also the first doctor to actually address the root cause and respect the fact that I hate taking medication. I'm usually extremely critical of doctors and hospitals, so for me to have no complaints says a lot. It must mean all the prayers worked. Because truthfully, I've been ready to cancel insurance altogether - it's the biggest scam of our lifetime. Insurance, Medicare, Pharma, even the food system... all designed to keep sick patients rolling in. Dr. Xue and his nurses gave me something rare: a glimmer of hope. That's more than I can say for Harris, Medical City, and United Regional - some of the worst of the worst. Their answer to my dead colon was opioids, referrals to the wrong specialists, and a complete refusal to hear my cries. The bedside manner was horrible; many acted like know-it-alls, and some I couldn't even understand because they didn't speak English clearly. After years of that, finding a team that actually listens and cares feels like a miracle. The root cause matters. Before you accept the pill for an ill.

Yelp
Urology. Doctor harmed me in so many ways with mesh surgery I have it all documented like a lawyer would. The only thing their management was willing to talk to me about was legal issues. I called the president's office, Daniel Podolsky. Only his assistants would talk to me. I emailed him my entire portfolio. He would never come to the phone and one of the assistants actually blocked my phone number. UTSW hasmany great doctors unfortunately the urologist is not one of them. Podolsky could help us, but I guess these days it's just all about the money. He knows there was Medical malpractice so he just ignores us. Obviously, if he thought there was no case, he wouldn't be so cowardly.

Monra R.

Yelp
All I wanted was CD copies of imaging to continue care with my established spine doctor. I called and was directed to a website to fill in a form. You would need a law degree to figure out the language. I called my MD sister and she couldn't figure it out. I emailed the radiology department begging for help and they sent me another form, which, though, complicated I could at least figure out. I have returned the form. fingers crossed they don't throw me any more roadblocks.

Yelp
There are no words to express the treatment I received at UT. Southwestern Even though my case is complex. I expected to be treated like a human, not dismissed like someone who's life is meaningless. The ineptitude is endless. From making the first appointment to the "review" of my MRN/MRI, to Dr Chabbra's dismissive and condescending attitude. "I treat brain cancer, pancreatic cancer etc., what you have wont kill you." "If everyone had their problems written on their foreheads, no one would ever speak to one another" "You can get on pain meds for the rest of your life." All of these statemets delivered with the grin of a Cheshire cat. This ordeal spanned a 1.5 years, and to top it off he never looked at my chart. It's insane. I only hope he gets what I have. Then and only then will he become a human being.

Yelp
Administratively poor, yet with great talent, which sometimes counter- balances the other. Recently found myself going elsewhere, which has been tough. * Not just one instance.

Yelp
Farrukh T. Awan is a horrible doctor. Horrible bedside manner and a mental basket case. He has a Mercury Vac System that he uses for particular patients in order to sabotage their care/health. This CLL doctor orders colonospies for Chronic Lymphoma Leukemia patients in order to implant his Mercury Vac System. He ordered a colonoscopy for me in November 2021 and he joined my appointed colonoscopy physician Dr. B. I only visited this doctor from October 2021 til January 2022 because of his poor lack of care and professionalism; however, 3 years later I am being hurt and he's trying to kill me via his Mercury Vac System. He goes around telling people we've dated and I absolutely do NOT know him personally, ( Only as a PATIENT)! He talks 24 /7 via his Mercury Vac System and I guess he thinks breaking the law is his personal connection to me; even though I'm being violated severely physically and emotionally. Both local police and the FBI have been notified and are clearly aware!

Yelp
I have deep respect for healthcare workers, which makes this review difficult to write. I watched my immunocompromised loved one be left in an ER hallway for over 24 hours, despite being told from the start that they would be admitted. We understand how demanding this line of work is, but it's crucial for administration and staff to remember that they are treating people, not numbers. If you have the option, I urge you to consider seeking care elsewhere--or be prepared to advocate fiercely for yourself and your loved ones. That said, no place is without flaws, and there was one feature we appreciated: the on-site pharmacy. It was convenient to have medications filled before leaving, which saved us an extra trip during an already stressful time.

Jonathan S.

Yelp
I had a life changing surgery. The doctors and staff were excellent. the whole program is top notch. I am now in my recovery and any questions I have, they are on the ball and fast to respond. The Uroligy department and Dr. Margulis staff are first rate! I am so fortunate that this is where I had my surgery procedure done. My nurses and techs that took care of me in post op and recovery were so kind and helpful. I will recommend UT Southwestern to everyone!

Yelp
Horrible; My husband was recently discharged from the hospital where he was an ICU patient for the first give or take 2 and half weeks because of gall bladder infection and sepsis; Had to go back to the ER yesterday, 6/21/24; Well, I will say if you're DYING do NOT go there, KNOWING his medical and recent hospital stay, they told him bathroom use is limited because of so many people in there; I get that, but as an RN, COMMON F*****G SENSE SHOULD TELL you NOT to let someone that does not have the immune system to fight any major infection bcs of a recent bone marrow transplant, to use the bathroom on himself and lay in it; Will the DON hear from me? ABSO F*****G LUTELY; Will the hospital Administrator hear about it? See previous answer for the answer to that; I as a human being don't even allow my animals to be in or Lay in S**T WOULD YOU?????

Brittany B.

Yelp
I was a patient of the Headache clinic and also saw a neurologist here. The neurologist left the UTSW system to start her own clinic. She does not take insurance. UTSW is not absorbing her patients- leaving me to find a new neurologist and being without migraine medication as well. Add this to the fact that their POTS clinic would diagnose but not treat, and it is super frustrating. I used to sing their praises- but now not so much.

Zack E.

Yelp
I have had to sit in the ER with my wife for the last 8 hours with ZERO communication. once my wife was finally brought back they spoke to her once in the first 2 hours. I DONT CARE HOW BUSY YOU ARE THATS UNNACCEPTABLE. if you take someone back that is because you are ready to take care of them. we saw many doctors and staff chit chatting while people were screaming for some help. I broke up two conversations personally after asking for someone to please see my wife. all they did to every patient around us was push pills and go. where are the doctors and nurses that want to take care of their patients today. doesn't matter how smart you think you are when you sit on your thumb all day. save your social chit chats for outside the place where people are dying and needing serious help. Thanks so much UTSW! You guys are terrible!

Jarrett W.

Yelp
Every call starts with a count down. 15,14,13,12 and so on. After reaching #1, you are sent to an answering service where the countdown begins again. Once reaching #1 in that system, you are immediately disconnected.

Yelp
I do not support their psychiatry department because they push dangerous drugs that they prescribe without scientifically analyzing the brain. The drugs mainly cause weight gain and tardive dyskenesia.

Yelp
They were terrific! Organize, Pleasant staff, The care was beyond my expectation! The type of care they gave me for my reverse shoulder replacement was beyond my expectations again! Give these professionals a chance to take care of you. Thank you, Dr. Khazzam and the Clements University Hospital staff. They were great! Thank you guys! I strongly recommend any new patient to download the MyChart app, it is so convenient during recovery. you can ask questions and get an answer back most of the time in a hour. All of your information as far as Medical information for that facility will be on that chart and they have other helpful tabs, where to park before you leave your home etc..

Aaron B.

Yelp
ZERO communication, trying to schedule a colonoscopy has been absolute hell!!!!! Not sure what's going on but I've always had great experiences with UTSW but this time has me totally 2nd guessing my decision for my primary care!

Yelp
As a veteran using the VA medical system over 40 years I was very willing to invest my money in what was suggested to be the best optometry department in Dallas. My hurried appointment with Katerina E. Parker actually felt worse than being back in the VA. Today I picked up the contact lenses with which I can't read street signs over half a block away. And they're so uncomfortable I couldn't even wear them for two hours. Her nurse who dispensed the contacts to me today was very defensive of her and her lack of professionalism, sighting her being overwhelmed by work load. I asked for a different optometrist and she stressed that I was visiting the best they had. It's a little over $600.00 out of pocket that I intend to pursue a refund for. It's a waste of time and money. I strongly suggest any other facility including the VA if you have that option.

Catia W.

Yelp
I took my sister to the emergency at UT Southwestern today and the screnneing attendant there said they do not accept people without insurance. So I this is inhumane. Thanks God for Medical City ,they just got her in and she is being treated

R P.

Yelp
They don't care about you in the outpatient clinics. The billboards around town are a JOKE "best hospital in DFW"...NOPE!!! Drs are rude and patient assistance office does not help...waiting 3 months for response. They will NOT let you change doctors if you have 1 visit with them...so be CAREFUL and pick the right doctor from start...or better yet...go somewhere else and let that other place/dr make money....UTSW has the WORST care...they are only in it for image/ads not in real practice.

Yelp
My boyfriend has been attempting to get an appointment at this location since July, but all appointments have to cancelled for at least a month later than the original appointment. They have continually ignored calls and gave my boyfriend the run around for a very very important medical appointment. Recently, they set an appointment for last Sunday, which is a day that the office is not even open on. As usual, they are not answering the phone and it's incredibly difficult to reach the office for any guidance in the matter. It's incredibly disheartening to see medical center treat patients with such disregard. Please go to another location if you are able to. This one is beyond unhelpful and unprofessional.

G C.

Yelp
Constant runaround on the phone with no phone numbers or access to people who don't put you right back into the UTSW recorded phone loop. Unnecessarily complex process to request medical records and then it's all handled by a third papery who doesn't know what's going on. This place is so average.

Deigo ..

Yelp
Don't EVER go to see a doctor at UT Southwestern just for a regular office visit. They will charge you to see the doctor and they will charge you a separate ridiculous hospital bill. See a doctor that is NOT based in a hospital!!!

Phil V.

Yelp
UTSW is a money-greedy hospital that overcharges and needs to have its billing department practices audited. UTSW billing practices are shameful and often fraudulent. Doctors are arrogant and impossible to reach. avoid at all costs

Pascha T.

Yelp
This review is in reference to a particular doctor. If I could give 0 stars I would. But, I am writing because I do not want any woman to experience the treatment I received from Dr. Shai Rozen during my breast reconstructive surgery. This doctor should not be part of breast reconstruction. The quality of care I received was far below standard. He would examine me from afar and not touch me during exams. He was careless and dismissive and often flippant when it came to answering questions that I had about my surgery. If you are going through breast cancer and are planning to have reconstruction: THIS IS NOT THE DOCTOR FOR YOU. PLEASE DO NOT USE HIM. I am now soured on the whole reconstruction process I underwent 2 surgeries within 3 weeks of each other due to his lack of care. It was a nightmare of an experience and I ended up having the expander removed and have no plans of pursuing reconstruction any time soon. I do plan on speaking to the Board about his behavior, I just finished having antibiotic infusions about 2 weeks ago and finally feel strong enough to tell my story. Stay away! There are better doctors who specialize in breast reconstruction- do your research. Do not let the shock of your diagnosis allow you to be too accepting. Check out your doctors before you let them operate on you. This is just a little bit of my story, but I promise you don't want a doctor who is dismissive, careless, or makes assumptions. I unfortunately got that and am still recovering from it.

Yelp
TERRIBLE!!!! 7 HOUR WAIT BEFORE I SEE A DOCTOR?? BLASPHEMY. They kept me in a room for 7 hours and had the nerve to give me a turkey sandwich because I waited so long my blood sugar was low.

Yelp
I can't say enough about the Depart of Neurological Surgery and the O'Donnell Brain Institute. My husband fell during winter storm Uri. A local hospital did a CT scan. It showed no bleed. They did not consider that the blood thinner may put him at risk. Two weeks later symptoms worsened and I took him to UT Southwestern's ER. Within one hour a bilateral bleed was found and we were preparing for surgery. He was admitted to the Neuro ICU. The skill and precision of Neuro ICU team was perhaps the best that I have witnessed. They took an interdisciplinary approach and they called for important consults with Hematology, Physiatry, and Urology. The Nursing staff were incredibly knowledgable and compassionate. My sincere thanks to the entire team for restoring my husband to health. During the 10 day stay including ICU and the floor and two day in the rehab unit, my only complaint was the difficulty in getting my husband evaluated and admitted into rehab.

Yelp
I came in for leg pain and I ended up having a blood clot. The medical team here was beyond exceptional. Everyone was super attentive, kind, and took great care of me. Zero complaints. Come here if you want the best care around.

Yelp
Overall I have mixed feelings about this place. Physician are hit or miss. You really need to do your research on who is treating you. Find a second opinion if possible.

Yelp
Waited several weeks for a referral to final make it through the system only to be told they are now no longer accepting new patients. They could have posted that on their website or told me before the referral. They must be screening which patients are worthy of their help. Finding it hard to find decent care in Dallas at all.

Yelp
The gastro suggested my sister go to utsw as 1 of 3 hospitals. He said she needed a liver transplant or had no hope )she'd been swollen and jaundiced over a month). Her care was good the first 2 days. Supposedly she needed more testing, but two more days went by with no testing )just racking up the intensive care bill for insurance????) When they realized the cancer was also in her blood they released her. They told us we'd have a a social worker to help us and palliative assistance, which we've never gotten (she was released 9 days ago!). A PT person has come check vitals twice, and a nurse came by once who didn't do anything. I've requested my sister's terminal diagnosis from records, TWICE! Ive called! Still nothing. My sister can't get hospice care with out this diagnosis. To be released with terminal liver cancer, with nothing but a PT request is insane! They drained 10lbs of fluid off her stomach the first day, and she's already at that stage again. Her only option is go back to have them drain her again, but she can barely walk l; and they didn't consider a stint of some kind, so a nurse could drain her from her home. I'm so furious at the lack of care when a terminal patient is released, I wouldn't go to this hospital if it was my very last option!! I feel like they had initial motivation, but quickly realized a transplant couldn't happen, then just kept her there two extra days for no reason. BEFORE you leave HAVE your diagnosis in HAND, or you'll be screwed getting any care...just like we are.

Yelp
My primary care physician referred me to the liver clinic due to my diagnosis of a fatty liver. I called to make an appointment. They stated I needed to get a fibroscan prior to my physician visit. It was scheduled for August 9th with the physician visit 2 weekslater. Someone called and stated not to eat or drink 3 hours prior to test. Arrived on time, the aid took my weight and brought me to a room. She looked on the computer and stated you don't have an order for the test. I stated 2 different people stated I needed to have the scan. prior to my visit. The aid stated No,She needed an order and she didn't have one. I was livid . Had to pay 5 dollars for parking and several tolls for nothing.

Yelp
UTSW Dallas has without doubt the worst billing dept. that is connected to any hospital. The reason they have such high rating is the way they push for ratings. they say if you want to rate this conversation (Remain on the line after this conversation) but if the conversation dose not go there way they will disconnect ! BEWARE OF THE BILLING DEPT !

William F.

Yelp
It's sad to say that UTSW, as big and great as it is, definitely needs lots of improvement, especially in business analysis! I agree with the last comment. AI would definitely help allocate resources to the right departments. some of the so-called senior business analysts are a joke!!

Yelp
The Interventional Psychiatry Clinic was not a positive experience for me as the administrative check-in staff is rude, unprofessional, and uncontrolled as the supervisor is beyond rude so it is understandable that the staff is following her lead. Beyond me being treated this way I witnessed a gentleman (worker from the front desk area), from this department, talk rude, disrespectful, and crazy to an elderly man in a wheelchair. If you are seeking a caring, respectful, nurturing environment for your mental health care, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE. I stopped my 12-week treatment after 8 weeks as I could not tolerate the rude/degrading front check-in staff. It is so crazy to me that such a large, formerly respected institution allows a few minimum-wage workers to be out of control. If you go here, do not expect a greeting when you walk in the door as these minimum wage workers do not do anything except say "birth date" without even looking up at the customer. Please do not entrust your mental health care to this office.

Yelp
Be very warned, if medical malpractice should occur, you cannot sue the doctor or hospital. It's a state protected facility and I was left with a TBI and a ruined life.

Yelp
Compared to the UK, best neuro unit. That's saying so much since cambridge is supposed to be above utsw. Worked for both...i would rather be ill in Dallas.

Yelp
After being transferred three times, I get a lady who REFUSES to speak directly into the phone . I've mentioned it three times. I had to hang up on her INCOMPETENCE

Yelp
This is my third visit to the emergency room this month. I thought the first visit was so bad because maybe they were having a bad night. Sadly to say they are consistently bad. The intake personnel were very nice, however when you make make it to the back the nurses are very rude and inconsiderate. I was in excruciating pain and they had me sitting in a chair. I told the tech is was very painful for me to sit in the chairs. Her response was well this is where they told me to bring you and she left. I've been admitted each time I've come and thank God the poor care from the emergency department does not continue in the wards. Giving them a one is a stretch because they don't even deserve a one.is much more than they deserve. It's sad that on top of being sick you have to be subjected to unprofessional medical

Yelp
I would like to brag about...Rowanda! I spoke with her on the phone when I called to request a refill. She was knowledgable and patient. She was dedicated to her job: of pleasing ME, a patient of Southwestern! I will talk to you about how great Rowanda is @ any time.

Yelp
The worst ER in America. You basically have to moments away from dying to be seen. 6 hours and counting... still in the waiting room.

Yelp
I went to UT Southwestern Medical Center, to their pain management program, in 2009/2010. A surgeon had torn apart my right gluteus muscle, but he hid his mistake and let me bleed out, get blood transfusions, and exist in extreme pain for two years. At the pain management department within UT Southwestern, their recommendation to my pain management doctor was to take me off of all pain medication because it wasn't working. I have never been more disgusted or dismayed by any health care professional prior to this point. They have no empathy for those who are suffering. It's like a one-stop "get off your pain meds" shop. Screw you guys. You did NOTHING to help me.
