We missed the last ferry and ended up having the best surprise of our trip—a night at this charming hotel in Utne, the oldest in service in Norway (since 1722!). A warm welcome, cozy rooms, delicious dinner, and a special thanks to the chef who presented the entire menu in English just for us, the only foreigners. A truly unforgettable stop! 🌟🇳🇴

I’ve stayed here twice and it’s always been a highlight of the trip. Utne is slightly out of the way, but instead of the large busy hotels on the east side of the fjord you get the cosy atmosphere, history (it’s from 1722), great food and very helpful staff. The piano was once played by Edvard Greig.

One of the cutes Hotels I ever experienced. I immediately felt like home. It is such a warm cozy place. You can see how much love and effort was put into keeping this old hotel and the old building. There are so many little details. Big recommendation to go there. I fell in love with it, the moment I waked in the doors.

I felt like I was in a fairy tale in this lovely, charming old hotel. Even royalty loved it! Our room, reportedly the queen's favorite room, was simple and comfortable and looked out at the fjord. The public areas are cozy and pretty and we liked drinking tea by the fire and watching the ferries and occasional cruise ships in the fjord. Bjorn, the manager was so helpful, witty and genuinely enjoys his job. Breakfast was typical Norwegian with breads, meats, cheeses, fruits, eggs. Dinners, cooked by Bjorn were delicious. So easy to get to, a few steps from the [extremely quiet] ferry. A few shops within a block or two. Many easy walks and more challenging hikes begin from the hotel.

Nice location. The dinner was good with an interesting wine package if wanted. The breakfast was excellent ! The staff is friendly and helpful. The decor is old-fashioned giving a specific atmosphere in the hotel. The room (a historic one with garden view) was quite small. So, ok for a one or two-night stay at the most.

Stayed here just one night on our way down to Trolltunga. Lovely older hotel in an absolutely idyllic and tranquil setting. The dinner was lovely but the breakfast was only "okay." The staff had many guests on their hands but even so at times it felt like we were intruding and the hospitality was not quite as strong as everywhere else we have visited in Norway.

A simple, charming, small, traditional family-run hotel on the edge of Hardangerfjord. |Bedroom was ok, although the bed was very soft, with a strange mattress / topper arrangement. Bathroom (shower, no bath) was good. Fjord-view rooms look out over the terrace (noisy until 2300/2330) and the ferry docking station, which is noisy when a ferry arrives/departs - the first is 0630 during the week, 0730/0830(Sat/Sun). The rest of the time, it’s very quiet. But great views of the fjord! |Breakfast buffet is good, although no hot dishes offered. Dinner is very good indeed. |Wi-fi works ok. |Overall, a nice little hotel for a couple of nights.|But the price is ridiculous. It’s a simple, 3-star hotel. But there are not many options in the area.

This hotel has been in operation for 300 years. It is quaint and warm. It's very classy. The food was good but not fantastic. I had high expectations (relative to other meals I had in Norway). We had a cider tasting which was fabulous (the hotel promotes the local cider) but were a little surprised that they did not speak to us in English at all during the tasting. We were fortunate enough to have another guest interpret for us. We are not arrogant to expect them to present in English but they had indicated that they wanted to attract tourism so I would have thought a few words would have been appropriate.

Yelp
We had a wonderful stay at the Utne Hotel. Jon Aga was a very friendly and welcoming host and his skills as a chef blew us away! Amazing food and an experience I will cherish for a long time
