Terribly disappointing experience at Ưu Đàm Chay.
We came with high hopes due to the restaurant’s reputation and stylish decor, but unfortunately, the service was shockingly poor. First, we had to climb two very slippery staircases to reach the second floor. It felt unsafe and poorly maintained. Once upstairs, the restaurant was nearly empty, so we expected quick service — but that couldn’t be further from what happened.
A staff member simply pointed to a table, handed us menus, and disappeared. We waited patiently, assuming someone would come to take our order shortly. But no one ever returned. After an unusually long and frustrating wait — without any follow-up, water, or acknowledgment — we gave up and left.
Wasting that much time for nothing was infuriating. What made it worse was the fact that the menu prices were quite high for a vegetarian restaurant, yet the service felt worse than a cheap street-side eatery. We didn’t get to try the food, but if the service is any indication, I wouldn’t expect much.
Overall, this was one of the most unwelcoming and disappointing dining experiences I’ve ever had in Hanoi. Definitely not recommended. Save your time, energy, and money — there are better vegetarian options in the city.
