Came here without a book. Luckily they were able to accommodate us downstairs. Great selection of beers with light, dark and mixed. Food was very tasty although not quite as good as a previous place we had eaten. Great service and very authentically traditional feel.

Our Czech friend recommended this place to us. We came for dinner at around 19.00 and was quickly seated to a window seat. We ordered the Pilsner beer since it's a Czech beer, I find it okay but my girlfriend said it's a bit too bitter for her. For the food we ordered the Goulash and the Pork Knees. The Goulash was nice and tender though it still has texture when you bite into it, some parts more tender than others. The bread and potatoes that comes with it complements the meat well, we just wished the sauce was seasoned with just a little bit more salt, but the overall dish tastes good. The Pork Knees came with a side of mustard and Sauerkraut. The Pork itself is mostly tender with some parts towards the actual pig's palm being slightly more chewier and some parts that's attached to the bones are chewier as well. The Skin has some good crispiness to it and the pork pairs well with the Sauerkraut, we wished the Sauerkraut was more acidic but it still tastes good since it cuts the fatiness of the pork. Overall good meal if you love meats and carbs.

We didn't make any reservations and walk-in at 7:45pm. Fortunately, there was a table after 5 minutes of waiting (thanks to their waiter!) The taste of pork ribs was the best so far in the restaurants we had tried. Their roasted duck was juicy and have good aroma. Huge food portions and good value for money. The staffs were attentive to fulfil our request.

Google
We enjoyed our dinner at V Kolkovne very much. The staff was professional, and the food came out incredibly fast (almost too quickly), and it wasn't a slow night. The pilsner was great, as was both the Pilsen goulash and svickova that we ordered. Overall 4 out of 5 stars. We'll happily return.

Not a single smile from anyone. Food was OK. We came for the Devil's toast and it was the mildest devil we have ever met! Arrives with Bill, "tip not included" as he stands there watching. We give the payment and he does an exaggerated rummage through the purse obviously waiting for us to say, that is the tip. Tip for what?! a scowl? Too many places in Prague now saying tip not included. Will tip if we want to. Dry meat and ok if you want to sit beside a busy road junction with rude service.

Google
A restaurant where you can have a great time! The staff is bustling around but always remains friendly and attentive – my compliments. The lively atmosphere created by the other guests makes it very vibrant. The menu offers a wide variety of choices, so you’ll always find something delicious. I enjoyed a tasty hamburger and a well-known beer from Pilsen. I had a wonderful time. 5 stars!

Google
I really liked this pub. The food was good hearty food reasonably priced. I gave it 4 out of 5 because when I came just for drinks a few days before I saw the same dishes presented very differently ie egg yolk on the tartar. This was part of why I came back to eat here and they didn't do it. But the food was still good and great value

Google
Great restaurant, enough space, and delicious food. You can enjoy beef tartar, or Caesar salad with cider or beer. Staff are fast. At 14:17 o’clock, it is quiet here, which I like. But: waiters tell you “only cash”, which is wrong. And if you pay card, they forcefully add 10% tip, which is not mentioned on the menu, or anywhere. And I called restaurant to ask, they said tipping is not mandatory, and you can pay with cards.

Yelp
Kolkovna v Kolkovně was the literal first place we stopped after getting off the plane in Prague, so we were definitely hungry and it was raining when we arrived! The ambiance of Kolkovna v Kolkovně is very warm and welcoming with wooden tables and large copper brewery tubing over the bar. We felt right at home, and had a few drinks with our meal to stay out of the rain for a while. The drinks were fantastic and refreshing after a long flight. I ordered the Pilsner Goulash, as it sounded pretty standard (not branching out too far from something I know for the very first meal). It was a hearty helping of meat slices with bread, some tomatoes, onion, and other veggies, with a tasty gravy over it all. Very filling and satisfying! My husband made the adventurous choice to ask for the special, and it arrived as a large pork knee hock on a giant bone. He said it was like doing surgery to be able to eat it. But he did say the taste was fabulous when the shock of the hugeness wore off. He also asked if he could order a side salad, and the server said sure, but what came out was a wooden bowl of full vegetables. My husband was able to cut them down to bite size and still enjoy them, it was just not a salad like we are used to. Definitely stop by Kolkovna v Kolkovně if you're in the area and grab some drinks and snacks, just be sure to ask a few questions about what you're ordering if you're not sure what it entails!

Yelp
We ordered a moravský vrabec, and corn cob as side dish. The pork was as hard as stone. The corn was rotten and sour. The waiters were rude and obviously not willing to serve customers who cannot speak Czech. When we pay the bill, the waiter added 10% and said it was a service charge. When I clarified whether it is a service charge or a tip, he said "service charge and tip are the same thing". But other restaurants in Prague are not practicing that. He finally cancelled that 10% extra charge. It's absolutely a bad restaurant when compared with other restaurants in Prague city center. The waiters are impolite and dishonest. I would not suggest anyone, or at least tourists, to go there.

Yelp
We came to Prague to get some Real Bohemian food! I say we found it. The food was so authentic and flavorful. The restaurant is good and conveniently located, we ate there three meals in the four- day stay. I had to come Back to try the roast duck...it's so delicious and crunchy. Worth coming back. The roasted pork leg is worth the money! It blew me away with how much food you get! It mush be a 3-4 pounds of meat on the plate. It's had to be shared with at least one other person if not two. I'm glad I had company who also loves roast pork. We had a blast! The only regret is that I am not here enough days! The next time,, I'll try the roast goose leg.

Yelp
Delicious Pilsner urquell. They have it on tap and unfiltered. The flavor with it unfiltered is really great. You can also have it filtered. I had the sausages marinated in vinegar and the marinade added a nice kick but not hot. It came in a cast iron skillet out of the oven in a tomato sauce with bell peppers. The dish was over the top! The food and drinks made it a 5 star experience.

Yelp
Reverse reverse. I stopped in for coffee but decided to stay for lunch. On a cloudy drizzly day, a hearty goulash was calling my name. Not too pretty but delicious. Served with slices of bread and potato pancakes. I think this is a chain under the Pilsner Urquell label. The prices were modest especially since it is near Old Sq. and the Spanish Synagogue. Finally found a dark beer and it's all he wrote.

Yelp
There are several of these in Czechoslovakia. This is the one in Prague a beautiful and historical city along with its sadness of the holocaust in pieces around here (Jewish Quarter). I love this place. Good food: not greasy, not salty, not over flavorful but natural. Allowed me to order kids menu portions as an adult so I could try various items. Everything was good and just right. The tea pot was efficient w pot and cup attached. The staff spoke English (thank you). Bathroom was clean and nice no touch features.

Yelp
The food was ok, probably one of the worst carpaccios I've had. But my husbands food was decent. The service was not inefficient, but the waitress and waiter were so rude, unhappy, and not personable at all, it was almost unbearable. We literally left as soon as we could. Every single staff member looked miserable to be there. Our beer was 1/2 foam. We literally just wanted to get out. It was our ONLY bad experience in prague and I see many other reviews of this place saying the same thing. Not sure what issue is with staff attitude.

Yelp
Great drinks especially the ginger iced tea & latte. The restaurant was a Michelin 2017. I can see why it's not Michelin now. The plating presentation is disappointing for Michelin. If you're a foreigner like myself, the dumpling is a lot of breads, not our usual stuffed dumplings. Oh the sausage was tasty. Portions are good. Overall, a nice bar, cheers!

Yelp
We had a very nice and relaxed lunch at V Kolkovně. We tried some Czech specialties - fried Camembert, goulash and Cheese Balls. I will frankly admit I ordered the Cheese Balls because of the name. How can you not order Cheese Balls? The Cheese Balls came with sausage and vegetables (mostly peppers) in a nicely spicy sauce. The goulash came with a pretzel on top - perfect for dipping. Service was good! I didn't feel this was a tourist trap at all. Though I guess *I* was a tourist. I would gladly return to V Kolkovně!

Yelp
Typical Czech pub where they serve mostly local food and beer. They have quite nice seating on the street. The service is sometimes not the greatest but the food is goos
google avatar

Yelp
Food is just average and if you are a tourist in town reading reviews that this is a good place, WARNING WARNING... they force you to pay a tip of 10% and there you have this average American's advice.
google avatar

Maple R.

Yelp
The food is top notch and definitely worth 6 stars, not five :) unfortunately the service is less than perfect, hence the downgrading it to 4 stars. Definitely worth visiting when in Prague, don't expect extremely attentive setvice, but the quality of food and ambiance makes it worth the wait! I had cod treska and a potato soup in a bun - delicious! My partner had a beef goulash and it tasted awesome so he says :)

Steve B.

Yelp
Great place. But not the one in Jewish quarter. The other one that I cannot find anymore. At least it used to be before Covid. Next time I'm in Prague, I'll try it again.

Yelp
We were here in Prague for a few days after a trip in Europe. We wanted a good traditional meal along with some beer and stepped inside. This was a good place to be. The variety of choices was perfect. The prices even better. And as for the beer you could not go wrong. It was everything you wanted and more. The waiters were a bit tough to work with. It might have been the language we speak. It is tough and you need to find someone who can help you. But once you are over that you can have something to enjoy. Going traditional is the best way. It is what you expect. And since I grew up with many of these dishes, it was a good thing to find something you will like. And a good portion of it as well. As for the beer, it is local and a large size. You can not go wrong. Even the beer is the same price as a cup of coffee. But the beer is better. One thing is the crowd. It is large and loud. Many people are there drinking and eating and having a good time. Naturally in the world we live in this can be rough on all of us. We need to keep that thought in mind right now. But to enjoy the company and the meal it is nice to be back after the years we have had. So raise the beer. Make the toast. And enjoy being here for the meal. It is worth it.

Yelp
Went here twice just this last weekend - once for a drink and once to grab some grub before heading out to the National Theatre. Their dark beer here is awesome, could drink it all day! Ordered the Pilsner Goulash which came with bread dumplings and potato pancakes. That was good and hearty. The portion was also just right. I looked at other patrons dishes and was happy with my choice as their meals were much bigger compared to mine. It has a good ambience and I think the space downstairs is perhaps a bit cosier. However the staff can be quite curt or abrupt but I think this is a Czech thing.... Otherwise a satisfactory place for beer and food that doesn't cost a million Kč.

Yelp
This restaurant, not too far from old town, was recommended by our travel expert for Prague, And it was delicious. We made a reservation and arrived early and we were seated. The food was very good. Would love the recipes!! We had the Pilsner Goulash, a Greek salad and the Goulash soup and all were delicious. I would eat here again!

Tim H.

Yelp
Very attentive service in a city that is not known for its "quick turnaround." Food was amazing. Try the duck--you've never had anything so good!

Yelp
Fool me once, shame on you Fool me twice, shame on me We went to this place based on our hotel recommendation. I know, Red flag. Ordered the mixed grill for two. Yucky. Dry meat, tasteless sides. When we asked the couple next to us about their meal, they said 'so so'. Not the best of recommendations. So why did we go a second time? Because our Segway tour leader recommended it and she said she and her friends go there. So we thought, maybe we ordered wrong. I tried to goulash soup, hubby had the spicy goulash. We did this based on Yelp reviews. I should have known there was a problem when I asked the waiter for recommendations and he said all the most expensive dishes. Hello! Another big red flag... The spicy goulash tasted like sweet and sour beef. The soup had a really small potatoes and tinier, almost nonexistent beef. So, why even 2 stars? Big place, nice outdoor seating, decent beer and Czech wine. The bathrooms are very nice as noted in other reviews. And the prices are decent. I did see quite a few locals eating here, so maybe Czech food just isn't that good? Btw, those reviews who mentioned unhappy servers. These are typical Slavic unhappy looking waitstaff - its cultural, not personal!

Lan O.

Yelp
The food are really nice and the service is excellent. I recommend you make the appointment before you go to the restaurant.
google avatar

Andy T.

Yelp
Pretty much a tourist trap restaurant. The menu is a large mix to try and please everyone, it is average but edible. The price is expensive for what it is, but I guess you are paying for location and convenience. The service was ok/average but that didn't stop them asking for a 10% tip when they brought the bill.
google avatar

Jay B.

Yelp
Came here in the evening after a recommendation from a local. Walked in and found a nice upscale pub type of feel. Everyone in our group had a different plate and beer to match. Together we had main plates, and two -1/2 liters of beer for $25 U.S...food was outstanding and found out this place was Michelin rated. Really good choice if you're in the area for service, price, and taste!
google avatar

B R.

Yelp
Shitty food, even shittier service. Oh, and a complete rip off. This is a tourist trap disguised as an authentic Czech pub. Avoid.
google avatar

Nataly K.

Yelp
This is very good restaurant with traditional food. We had potato soup, that was served in bread and goulash soup. Both soups were really good. Also we had ribs. Portions are quite big. Ribs for example we shared. Very friendly staff. Next time in Prague I will definitely visit this place.
google avatar

Mike B.

Yelp
Big portions, nice atmosphere. I had the pork here and of course some beer with it. The service was good and fast. Worth stopping at, they have inside and outside seats.

Yelp
I've been here both times I went to Prague. Very large restaurant, many waiters, and usually not so crowded each time I have been. Service is good, food is good but very heavy. This is typical Czech food for it to be heavy, so nothing out of the ordinary. My husband enjoyed the Roast Pork Hock / 1 pc 295 CZK Roast pork hock with creamy grated horseradish, mustard, and pickled vegetables. Roast Duck 1/2 350 CZK 1/2 roast duck, bread and potato dumplings, red and white cabbage. I've also ordered: Traditional Bohemian Cabbage Pancakes 180 g 185 CZK Savoury pancakes made from cabbage, home-style smoked sausage, smoked pork shoulder and potatoes. Drizzled with spicy garlic sour cream. The roast duck was greasy. A whole duck was served. That's a lot of duck! I got tired of it quick. I suppose I am not the biggest duck fan. I enjoy their red and white cabbage and potato dumplings. They are a Michelin rated restaurant. Most of their customers are families and large groups that I always see, probably tourists.

Yelp
First night in Prague! Tired from jet lag and didn't't do my usual prep on food and drink in the area of the hotel. Possibly because we do not take residence in higher end facilities... In any case, we wandered in after a quick look at the menu. Greeted by everyone we passed which was a nice touch. After seeing the Curry Wurst stands in Frankfurt Airport, I couldn't resist the Sausages in Beer, a light spiced curry like sauce for only 175 CKZ which fit my craving. My wife Pete for the Avocado Salad and a burger with fries. Standard fair but she liked the burger presented with a sesame seed bun, tomato, lettuce, onion and sweet pickle. The avocado which we expected to be a side salad, turned out to be a good sized bowl that could serve 2! Lastly needed a beverage to wash it all down so we opted for the Pilsner Urquell and a dark beer Other then an issue pronouncing the name (even after several passes with our waiter). Only issue os the staff can be slow and casual, so if in a hurry make that known from the start, else, sit back relax and enjoy the beer!
google avatar

Dre L.

Yelp
The restrooms here impressed me. They were very clean and updated. Always appreciative of that. They have a few beers on tap and plenty of ciders to choose from. The staff treated us well and would definitely go back.
google avatar

E A.

Yelp
Came here on a rainy Saturday night and they had room for us downstairs (which I believe is the non-smoking section). It was crowded, but not packed. I had the goulash soup that came with a delicious pretzel. The pork knuckle is something I've never seen and although it was delicious it was overwhelming and would have been better if shared. The salad was good, but skip the seafood soup. All in all they serve traditional Czech food.
google avatar

Reed W.

Yelp
Bartender and host were the rudest people in Prague. Really rude. The goulash and pretzel were good. I won't go back because we were made to feel completely unwelcome.
google avatar

Hailey G.

Yelp
We actually were recommended this place by a local with the note that the servers were known to be rude to tourist. Not the case for us. We ate the best schnitzel we've had in Europe here. They even provided us with to go bags (not a popular thing in Europe). I would definitely recommend this place for a taste of local cuisine.
google avatar

Theresa W.

Yelp
Great food, best prices and the atmosphere is very traditional. If you want Czech flair, come here!
google avatar

Becky Z.

Yelp
Our family really enjoyed the Czech food and service here. Lots of locals seem to be there as well. The lamb is very tasty- about the best I've tried. Even the sauces came with the pork neck taste great. Great value with a big portion of food and great service. Recommended if you want to try some Czech food!
google avatar

Michael K.

Yelp
Tourist trap alert!! Brought items out that we hadn't ordered, gave himself a 15% tip without asking us and then had the nerve to drop some coins (useless in Prague) on the table as a compromise. The food was just OK. Service was terrible and sketchy.
google avatar

Henrik S.

Yelp
Bar-restaurant with a pretty large menu. Expect traditional Czech food. There are a few vegetarian alternatives. Biggest turn-off - they allow smoking in the restaurant. It is 2016 - I thought this was banned by now. Staff friendly, and the service was fast. No need to book a table on a Saturday evening.
google avatar

Beth B.

Yelp
Wanted a good dinner and got it. They did a mix of the dark beer with the Pilsner and that tasted good. My husband ordered the 1/2 of a duck, which must have been the back half, since he had 2 legs! Thought that was different. It was served with white and red cabbage, potatoes and Czech dumplings. I had the wild boar ragout with bacon/potato dumplings. Service was consistent. Place was packed.
google avatar

Caitlin B.

Yelp
This place was near our hotel and the perfect place for our first meal in Prague. We had just travelled all day and needed something delicious and quick to eat. The hotel recommended walking around the corner to this place. It was perfect - we shared the pork knuckle and it was so juicy and tender. I would definitely recommend checking this place out for a hearty authentic Czech meal!
google avatar

Anthony G.

Yelp
Great Czech restaurant located near the Josefov neighborhood. Roast duck was delicious however the red and white cabbage was a bit strong tasting. The Pilsen goulash was equally fantastic. The beer was terrific as well. Service was very friendly and they spoke very good English. Prices are mid range, nothing crazy but even if you wrack up a hefty bill, you won't mind.
google avatar

Derek W.

Yelp
Restaurant V Kolkovne was recommended to us by the hotel. They had the best goulash I had in the city. I really enjoyed it. The portions were reasonable sizes and were presented very well..definitely a benefit when you get off of the train or airplane. It is not far from the main square is. If you sit outside or downstairs, there is no smoking which is what we preferred. Most of the wait staff was very friendly and helpful. One of the waiters was not very friendly, but if you research the whys on the internet and some reviews, you will understand why. We stopped in here several times and enjoyed it!
google avatar

Jon H.

Yelp
The food was very tasty, the staff was well trained and everything was clean. Furthermore it has a million certificates of excellence etc. But to me it appeared a little bit too corporate and too touristy. I know I am a tourist and I know that it is stupid to complain (as a tourist that there are so many tourists). But it just felt to me as if I was in the wrong age group to go there. The food was deliscious but it wasn't the place that I wanted to stay for another beer or so. So if you are a family on a trip to Prague and if you need a place to eat where grandparents, parents and children can fit in, then this is a good place. If you want a more lively place for a younger client group then this is not the place. That said I don't want to be negative. As I said it was excellent food and good service.
google avatar

Joséphine L.

Yelp
Even so the food was ok, the service ruined it. As I asked IF we could pay up separetely, the waiter yeld (!!) at me and gave away a long lesson-speech on how it was wrong of me to ask for that. A "No" would have been enough. I DO NOT recommended this place...unless you want to get out of it on your nerves..
google avatar

Sumner B.

Yelp
4 stars way to high. I had pork schnitzel and just plain tasting and dry but potato salad good. Wife had rabbit which had a nice sauce but was overcooked. I would say 2.5 stars.
google avatar

Anton N.

Yelp
The food is decent but nothing special. It is okey for lunch but wouldnt stay for dinner. The service is acceptable and pretty fast, but not that welcoming. There are tables outside on the sidewalk which is nice a warm day.

C H.

Yelp
We started with steak tartare, and it has to be very good, because in this part of the world, to me, it is how I evaluate a local food restaurant. It was superb! My rabbit entrée was great too. So a few nights later we returned and my husband loved his burger, and my salmon was very good. Compare to some of the other local restaurants this is a little more expensive, but I think it is worth the money. Service is very good.
google avatar

Tim A.

Yelp
Great restaurant located near the city center. This place had great service and good food. The beer was really fresh. You have to try the goat cheese appetizer.
google avatar

Devan M.

Yelp
Great service and the food was very good. Beers filled right away and the food was amazing. Had the ribs and my colleagues had the beef stew. Nice ambiance but solid place for date night. Would return.

Yelp
We've been going back and forth between a 3 or a 4. I finally decided on a 4 even though it is a bit over priced for some rather basic fare. Our waiter was extremely friendly and looked after us once we were able to get his attention. When we put in our orders or asked for anything, they were quick to respond. We were eating simple tonight so it was soups and salads. The goulash soup was very good. There was lots of little chucks of beef and potatoes and the broth was very tasty. The potato and wild mushroom soup in the bread bowl was also full of flavour. The bread bowl was outstanding on several levels. First off the bread was extremely fresh and tasty, but best of all was the hockey goalie figure baked in for the world hockey championships. The salads were not as good as the soup but still okay. The Greek salad had a nice mix of fresh crisp veggies with generous chunks of goat cheese. The new cucumber marinated salad was tasty although it has so much liquid it was like a mini-soup. Very tasty though. Overall a nice meal. A bit over-priced but such is the price you often pay when close to the main square. We likely would not go back as it is a bit too much of a tourist trap; however the food is good.

erden k.

Yelp
Stay away... one word.. Don't know Czech Food but the taste below average. Only thing i can recommend is-chicken wings.. Why stay away? Horrible SERVICE.. they have an attitude issue for no reason. Seems like they are doing you a favor.. I tip the guy $0 first time in my life especially I make my living from serving tables too.. If you are bothered with tourist questions about food; find a different profession or go serve somewhere non touristy..
google avatar

Suvi H.

Yelp
The food is okay but the service was so rude. Im ok with slow service but if the staff looses their temper when you try to get their attention the place is just not worth it. Sorry.
google avatar

Dan K.

Yelp
Great lunch. Service very friendly. Cute decor. In the land of hearty meals (and I love them) it was nice to eat lighter.
