I recently visited Val Thorens for the first time, and it left an incredibly positive impression on me. Without hesitation, I would rate it five stars in every category. Located at an altitude of 2,300 meters, Val Thorens is the highest ski resort in Europe. While this guarantees breathtaking panoramic views and excellent snow conditions, the high altitude can also lead to unexpected complications, such as shortness of breath. It is essential to be physically prepared before coming here to fully enjoy the experience. The resort offers an outstanding infrastructure for both sports and relaxation. One of the highlights is its top-tier spa complex, featuring multiple gyms, swimming pools, and saunas, allowing visitors to unwind after a long day on the slopes. This makes Val Thorens an excellent choice not only for skiing enthusiasts but also for those seeking a well-rounded wellness retreat. Dining and shopping options are equally impressive. The resort boasts a variety of stylish restaurants that serve delicious food, catering to different tastes and preferences. Whether you're looking for traditional Savoyard cuisine or international dishes, you will find plenty of excellent choices. Additionally, the numerous shops offer everything from high-end ski equipment to fashionable winter wear. Overall, Val Thorens is a fantastic destination that combines world-class skiing with luxury, comfort, and entertainment. Whether you’re an experienced skier or a first-time visitor, this resort provides an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a perfect winter getaway.

This is such a pretty ski resort with so many runs in varying standards. Clean and well kept, well groomed, and lots of methods of getting to the tops of the different slopes. Because of its height, there are no tree-lined runs.

The Perfect Destination for Skiing and Relaxation I recently visited this mountain, and I can confidently say it’s a paradise for ski and nature lovers! The area boasts an impressive number of ski slopes, suitable for all levels – from beginners to advanced skiers. The slopes are wide, well-maintained, and offer a safe skiing experience, making every moment on the mountain truly enjoyable. They are impeccably groomed daily, and the snow quality is excellent, no matter the weather. Beyond the slopes, the resort features cozy relaxation areas. The comfortable cabins, cafés with breathtaking views, and heated terraces provide the perfect spot to unwind between ski sessions. Whether you’re passionate about winter sports or just looking for a peaceful retreat in nature, this destination offers the perfect combination of adventure and relaxation. I highly recommend it!

This ski resort had so much to enjoy from a skiing perspective and a general good time. There are lots of different runs, ski schools and places to eat on the beautiful mountains. I was unlucky enough to require medical assistance but even that didn’t disappoint, everyone was super great and very friendly.

Val Thorens is a stunning resort that is brilliant for beginners /intermediates. With majority blue and red runs, there is plenty to go at. A 6 day lift pass is about €340 for the local one and €395 for the three valleys. Val Thorens is one of the more expensive resorts with the average meal setting you back about €25-30. This ski resort boasts some of the best après ski with Folie Douce at the top of the Plein Sud chair lift and Bar 360 along the 2 Combes green run, both bars have DJs and plenty of events take place here. There are also many bars and restaurants to eat/drink. Aside for skiiing/snowboarding there are plenty of activities. A zip line that crosses over the resort is only €40! There is a toboggan run, Ice driving experience, paragliding, snow shoeing and much more. The best way to get to Val Thorens is to fly into Geneva and take the 2.5 hour transfer, if you can afford private is always best for a longer journey. Accommodation wise there is a range of different types from low budget hostel/ apartment to 4-5* hotels and chalets. This resort has something for everyone, and you will never be short of entertainment. All in all this is a brilliant resort to visit whether it’s your first or tenth time.

I liked Val Thorens as a ski area, however I don’t think I would like staying there. It is definitely intended for a younger crowd (I am 31 years old) and it gave me the impression of being a beginners area (lots of people learning how to ski in the main slopes). Meribel and Courchevel seemed better.

At this altitude probably nowadays the only resort left in Europe where you can still find all around year skiing. We went to La Plagne, Tignes, Courchevel etc. but nowhere you find thick snow falling till mid April. The resort had much to offer as well for youth going to party or families with small children. Like every mountain resort some levels of inclination are steep for walking in order to reach different parts for which Val Thorens has elevators to solve these. So don’t worry when you are further from the slopes as probably everything is in quick reach. We also loved that the resort remains car free the whole week except weekends making it very safe for small children to stroll around and play in the snow. There are many good mountain restaurants too as well supermarkets at reasonable prices. At the bottom of the resort you have many zip lines as well that help to reach the various entries for some lifts and who are equally kids proof. We were lucky during our stay mid April as we had fresh snow almost every day and being in low season it meant it was great to almost ski alone on these wide slopes.
