Valentia Island Caravan & Camping

My first time visiting Valentia Island Caravan & Camping as a Motorhome owner, and I was impressed. Spotless facilities, manicured pitches, not overcrowded and all conveniently located (10-15 minutes walk), to the scenic Knightstown with its hotel, shops, bars and harbour walks. |The one thing about this site, at this time of year anyway, was the peace, the birds chirping and the sound of a gentle breeze as it moved through the shrubbery.|Great Showers €1 for 5 minutes, Kitchen with fridge, kettle and microwave and a small games room with pool table.|A word of caution travelling here. Come stocked up with food, (especially specific dietary requirements), toiletries etc. It is an island after all and some shops close early. Portmagee is a 10 minute drive away and may offer an alternative.|Overall 10/10.|Last word of warning, specifically for Motorhome owners, narrow roads, go slow, besides, you don't want to miss all that spectacular scenery.

1. You can only pay by Paypall, not business cards. 2. Emails sent via the website contact or the email address given on the website are not responded to. 3. A functional site particularly for motorhomes/campervans, but awful if you want to pitch your tent. The tents are all crowded together at the entrance, next to all the coming and going traffic of the site and next to the road. Whereas the places for motorhomes ensure a distance of 4-5 meters between those, tents must be pitched closer to each other. We had people pitch a tent a meter next to ours, at night, when the staff managing the site had already left. Though upon later inquiry, only three and not four tents were allowed in a row, the staff did not notice anything and did not act for two days, until the (perhaps non-paying) tenters had left. There are no trees or tall shrubs on the site itself. Only two tables and benches next to entrance. Kitchen is tiny, as is the fridge - even though -with a bungalow park also on the site- there can be over a hundred people at any one time. Good showers, for Euro 1 for 5 minutes. Knightstown nearby has not much to offer. It is a functional location to explore Valentia island and the western tip of the peninsula, but awful if you stay in your tent.

Amazing place for camping in a tent. Very clean and well kept. Very safe for anyone with kids. The toilets, showers etc were all spotlessly clean. The facilities were cleaner than some of the hotels I’ve stayed in around the world which says a lot about a campsite. Worth a visit I would just add one caveat, and that is that there is nowhere to get food in Knightstown after 9pm. If it’s a busy weekend and you don’t have a reservation in the local hotel then you’re snookered. If you’re out for a few drinks in the village, best to prepare and have some nibbles in your tent or camper unit for the evening!

Nice clean site and good showers.|However WiFi poor, and laundry very infective and expensive! €25 wasted trying to dry a few items! When we complained we got shrugged shoulders): RIP off!|Also no hot water the following day !

Everything was supposed to be great : lovely surroundings, clean facilities, central location, friendly staff. But we learned the hard way that those green meticulously cut lawn on every pitch comes with a noisy price. You should be aware that friday is apparently mowing day and that a gardener will loudly cut grass right in front your nose with his motorised tools, preventing you from enjoying the quiet and peaceful afternoon you actually paid for despite complaining twice about it. We were really looking forward this stay to rest after several days of driving.

A beautiful campsite, what struck me is how well maintained it was. I stayed for 2 mights camping and it was a very pleasant experience. Emma couldn't be more helpful, and the free map she gave me came in handy when I was exploring. Alan

Very clean and very good facilities . Mostly everything is new. You have to pay extra for shower. Very nice spot for the night with a short walking distance to the harbour. Management should consider charging full at booking for short term so hikers don’t get scolded for being late for checking in. Or should consider a self check in system. The camping site is literally next to the main street so it could be loud. (it was)
