6 Best Day Trips from Barcelona, and the Itinerary to Know for Each | Condé Nast Traveler

"In one of Catalonia’s most beautiful and untouched valleys, it’s not just the scenery that delights but the way in which you get up here. Roads don’t play a part. Rather, there’s a 40-minute ride on a solar-powered rack railway that whisks you up the 1000-meter incline. Along the way, expect all manner of gorge-side “oohs” and “ahhs” before arriving at a natural wonderland that brilliantly lends itself to family-friendly activities. Once inside the valley, the Coma del Clot Cable Car is a thrilling journey up one level steeper—the views at the top are wild and panoramic. The Leisure Park is a good stop for restless kids, offering plenty of exhausting activities, such as go-karting, trampolining, rock climbing and adventure playgrounds, which will make them temporarily forget that YouTube exists. For photography fans, the most iconic shot is that of the Núria monastery reflected, mirror-like, in the boating lake before it. While it goes without saying that there are hiking trails aplenty, covering all levels, as well as skiing in winter. In fact, it was the rise of winter sports—as well as pilgrimages to the monastery—that called for the rack railway to be built back in 1931." - Gemma Askham,Jessica Benavides Canepa

Relaxing valley with a small lake with facilities to eat and drink. You can have a picnic also. We always went there in good weather and always enjoyed but it should also be a great experience to visit under snow. This last time there were also some activities and rides to enjoy with family. To access the valley there is a train you can get on from Ribes de Freser or several other stops. From Ribes de Freser it takes less than half an hour. The short journey is enjoyable through a valley with several small waterfalls. You can plan to pass 2-4 hours in the valley or overnight in the hotel located in the center of the valley. The photo is from the peak you can climb by a 5 min teleferic ride from the valley. The valley itself offers much richer views which you can discover yourself.

Spectacular views, we visited in May when there's not many people so you can enjoy the views pretty much to yourself Make sure to bring sufficient clothing as it can be quite cold and windy (4-8ºC)

One of the must place to visit especially if we are in Catalunya. Appreciate the efforts that Generalitat de Catalunya made for tourists to have Rack Railway (the only way to reach valley top) Nuria. Rack trains are good enough to commute and they provide free parking as well at Ribes de Freser stations. Overall my experience was awesome and luckily we went on right day at right time with full of snow ❄️ and sunny 🌞 climate.
