"An Otherwordly Experience in Valle de la Luna The first glimpse you take at the Valle de la Luna (translated: "Moon Valley") will make you feel like you're visiting another planet. The deep red rocks, the massive sand dunes, and the speckling of salt across the surface is like nothing else I have seen on Earth. Peer closely at many of the rocks and you will see deep veins of salt. Stand close (and be quiet) and you can hear the rhythmic crackling of the salt as a result of the pressure in the rocks. The valley itself is 22 million years old, and scientists believe the salt was left behind from when an ocean covered this part of Chile . Located just a few miles outside of San Pedro de Atacama, the Valle de la Luna is an incredible place to hike, bike, and take in a spectacular sunset."
Nice place to visit. The trails could use a few more rest areas so when hiking in 30C weather they can retreat out of the sun when necessary. Staff were nice. Bathrooms clean. Reasonable price

Amazing place to visit. We went with a tour and it was nice. But I'd recommend you do it in a rental car as it's an easy trip.

Wow! The views are amazing! I did all the viewpoints on the map. From start to finish took me 3.5hrs. Well indicated and the hikes are not too difficult! You feel like your on planet mars!

Beautiful views but not as spectacular as from Valley de la Muerte or Pukará de Quitor.
The Three Marias and salt domes are cool, as is all the crystallised salt. Our guide was excellent in explaining the history and geological aspects of the valley. The sunset was lovely of course. Went via a tour so enjoyed the mini picnic provided at the end (and piscos!).

Unique place to be visited. The salt makes it seem like the moon or mars. Visiting these places we reflect about how the nature is amazing.

Great activity to add to your itinerary! It does take a while to go through all the stations, but since you’re able to drive to each station, you can pick and choose what you want to do. Bring a hat and plenty of water AND sunblock! Don’t underestimate the sun! I would recommend that you don’t skip the mine salt stations. At the second one, you can hear the salt crystals cracking!
You don’t have to buy tickets ahead of time, as there’s a few machines at their welcome center to get your tickets same day.

People have mixed opinions on this location. I for one, loved it. It’s easily accessible, there’s lots of car parking, the service at the entrance is great and the hiking (which I recommend) is a little challenging but very rewarding. The first stop offers 2 routes. Take the long route!
Enjoy what looks like Mars/moon

Unique place around San Pedro de Atacama you can discover by bike or car. The dryness of the region combined with the colorful hills makes it a wonderful place to explore. You can also rent snowboard in town to go down the hills.
