"Gorditas in Hatch If you're passing through southern New Mexico , the town of Hatch--the chile capital of the world'--merits a stop. Green chile peppers, red chiles, fresh, dried, roasted, jarred--you name it, you'll find it in this unpretentious hamlet in the Rio Grande valley north of El Paso. And if you want to have a sit-down lunch, pop into the Valley Café: no more than ten tables, and leaving messages on the walls is encouraged. Get a plate of "gorditas"--think crispy cornmeal-'pita'-like pockets ready for stuffing...I ordered 'al pastor,' with little chunks of tender beef, garnished, of course, with green chile--it'll fuel you up for those long stretches of desert highway ahead of you..."

Google
Great local spot in Hatch! A lady recommended Valley Cafe while I was buying red chili peppers—she was right. We seated ourselves, got chips and salsa right away (salsa had a nice kick). I had the red/green enchilada plate with beans, rice, and an egg—everything was flavorful, especially the green sauce. My son had a bean burrito with rice and liked it too. Casual, friendly, mom-and-pop vibe. Worth the stop!

Google
Perfect! The burgers ARE the best! The el pastor burrito with green chili was just the right heat and chock full of delicious steak! Passing thru town and really lucked out.

Feels like you're in someone's dining room. Very homey and friendly atmosphere. Burger was very good but the green chile was a little watery making the bun soggy. Bacon was a bit overcooked for my preference. Definitely would recommend!

Google
Great food and service, enjoyed the green chili burger with green chili topped fries, very good , chips and salsa was also very good, got the mason jar of green chili to go, unfortunately it must be frozen to get through TSA, great food , hope to be back soon, thank you.

Google
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!!! Best green chili burger ever! Flavor, heat and customer service 🤌🏽... excellent!!! We were traveling through and was looking for a food place, lots of places were closed that day and came across valley cafe.. and oh lawd the burger gods have spoken and told us to get the green chili cheese fries too... oh man, I had to give everyone a bite to try this greatness! Hands down the best burger, fries I ever had! And my little said her chicken fry meal was great, she wished she could've ordered more on the side, lol! Definitely can't wait to come visit again!

Google
It's a rustic place with EXCELLENT food... I 😍 chile relleno and beans burrito smother in green and red chili (New Mexicans call it christmas). My husband had the green chili cheeseburger, and it was DELICIOUS too.... I forgot to mention the chips and salsa 🥰

Google
Valley Cafe is a small diner, with seating inside and out where I stopped in for a delicious Lara Burger, a green chile cheeseburger. Hatch has the best green chile cheeseburgers and Valley Cafe did not disappoint! Thanks so much!

Yelp
I came to this recommended hole in the wall local place for the famous breakfast burrito. It did not disappoint! You can tell this is a local joint. And got busy as the morning went on. Service was great. The place was decorated for Christmas. Looked like an elementary school room. LOL. I ordered the Mega burrito and a side of hash browns. Then it came out, OMG it was huge! The pictures do not do it justice. It was at least 10 in long and 5 inches around! What a deal. And it was packed with bacon, ham, sausage, eggs and hashbrowns. It was so dang good! I got it Christmas with red and green chilis. It was so dang good. I could not eat nearly half! Great deal for the money! Great local place in Hatch. Great breakfast. I want to try the green chili burger next!

Yelp
The customer service was okay, but there is definitely room for improvement, particularly in attention to detail. For instance, I placed an order expecting a chile relleno burrito instead I received a different type of burrito, and my utensils were taken, leaving me without any. I had to go get some myself. My husband mentioned that his burrito contained hash browns, but since they are frozen, don't expect them to be fresh. On a positive note, the burrito I received was delicious and had just the right amount of spice, with a nice kick. My husband ordered the mega burrito, which was super big--double the size, as you can see in the picture. My daughter had a kids cheeseburger with bacon on the side, which was very tasty, the ambience is decent, It was halfway full nice. The green chili was flavorful and delicious.

Yelp
This is a friendly restaurant in Hatch. They serve breakfast until 11am. The green chile queso was flavorful without being hot. The chicken tacos were made with chunks of fajita chicken. Piled with lettuce and tomato, it made a pretty plate. The rice and beans were tasty and there was shredded cheese on the bean. The service was good without being too helpful. The bathroom was clean.

Yelp
Solid choice for breakfast or brunch, very reasonable prices and the chile is great. Bit spicy for me but the flavor was amazing.

Yelp
I hesitate to tell anyone about this place because - well, we got there just before noon and it was pretty full. It was then SOLIDLY full for the rest of the noon hour. All locals. They know what they're doing and they don't need any more business. But I have to say: this is the best chile I've had in Southern NM. Period. The red is as good as the best Norteño places (it's all different, but this is right up there with them), and that's saying something. The salsa is fantastic. The service is fast and they pay close attention to what you might need. The prices are reasonable. In all seriousness, I can see taking a jaunt from Albuquerque down to the Valley Cafe in Hatch just for a nice drive and to have a great lunch. Man, I'm so glad we stopped in. We WILL be back.

Joan C.

Yelp
Food was good & well prepared. Price was reasonable and service was good. We had fried eggs & ham n cheese omelette.

Yelp
Stopped here for breakfast, but had a hard time finding the place. They are NOT at 355 but moved across the street. The new address is 360. Becky was our server & she was an absolute delight. The food was great & the service was even better. If we lived on Hatch, I'd eat here every day.
google avatar

Chelsea W.

Yelp
We stopped in for breakfast. It was busy, but not chile fest busy. We had the two egg breakfast. It was all well done except the toast. Coffee was good, and waitress kept our cup full. Good but not great. Friendly feeling.
google avatar

Jordana G.

Yelp
Clean and well kept, this little neighborhood cafe has five star green chile. The red is no slouch but I think their green is just amazing - bright and full of rich roasted fresh chile flavor plus some mystery seasoning that adds to the complexity. Get a bowl of green and enjoy. The green chile fries are not to be missed, either. Excellent green chile burger, too. Friendly staff.

John E.

Yelp
If you want to go where the locals go, this is it. We were on the hunt for green chili cheeseburgers, and these were absolutely the best. You'll know as soon as you walk through the door that you are about to have a fantastic meal - the nose knows! Friendly service in a no-frills atmosphere - it is what it is, a fantastic small town restaurant.

Rayeanne S.

Yelp
Very good. Great carne asada burrito!! Great service and atmosphere!! Will stop by again

Yelp
The service is spectacular and the food is excellent. It's where the locals eat and now I know why

Yelp
Small town cafe, waitstaff was friendly and efficient. I had a cheeseburger with fries. Fries were not super crispy but bun was grilled. Husband has a patty melt and really liked the grilled onions. Everything was good and greasy. (This was a good thing, I didn't order a salad, lol) Only thing that was a bit disappointing was they were out of onion rings. Bottled cokes were served with ice. Easy to find, 2-3 outdoor tables. Inside was cool and fairly clean.

Yelp
Great, solid burger joint in Hatch. There aren't many restaurants in Hatch..so Velley Cafe is definitely a great choice given quite limited options in town. But hey..since you are in Hatch where award winning green chilis are grown, you might as well have some food that puruse this wonderful NM staple as an ingredient. My partner and I opted for the green chili cheese burger. It does come with a choice of fries, onion rings etc...but of course the chilli cheeseburger is where this dish shines..esp if you want to sample and experience his new mexicans incorporate green chilis into their dishes. I found the lady at the counter very polite and helpful. You can seat yourself at a table inside of outside a shop. She made sure to come out to ensure our table was wiped clean...that we had the menus..got our orders in..and finally got our food in no time! Great option for sure if you happened to be in the road, found yourself visiting Hatch...or just passing thus town along your roadtrip. P.S. oh..and a complementary chips and salsa helped curb our hunger while we waited for our burgers, too!

Yelp
Was fortunate to get in for lunch before the rush, during the Chile festival. Had 2 Chile Rellenos, Christmas style & they were excellent!! Best that I had during my visit to Hatch, NM The burger was a smash burger, had good flavor, but burger meat was so thin. Sparky's was the best burger of the 4, that we tried in town. We're in search of the best green chile burger & the best Chile Rellenos. It's become one of life's missions or an obsession. Either way, it's a win win for the tastebuds & belly. Will definitely be back for more Chile Rellenos. Thanks & stay safe!!

Yelp
Four of us ate at this local restaurant for breakfast. Service was friendly and responsive to anything we needed. I ordered the breakfast burrito ($4.25) smothered in green chili ($2.25) and filled with chorizo, eggs and potato (5). So flavorful with a bit of spice, which I like. Others ordered the breakfast sandwich with bacon on Texas toast with a side of hash browns (5). Portions of all meals are just right. Husband ordered the omelet with green chili and hash brown (5). Fourth person ordered eggs and chorizo plate (4), he felt like it needed more chorizo. They brought extra salsa, xtra hot for one of us. All home made and extremely reasonable prices. Would absolutely go again. Appreciated a good price for a bit smaller portion as I often feel plate sizes are too much.

Amy Jo G.

Yelp
Service was friendly, food pretty bad. they put french fries in a burrito that was open on both ends. Food filler. Skip it.
google avatar

Alexia G.

Yelp
Fantastic place to grab a breakfast burrito! Walking in here you could just tell this is a local's favorite, and after trying their potato and chorizo burrito dunked in green chile I knew why. Awesome flavor, great tortilla! 10/10

Yelp
Visited 2/22/2020 I was loving Authentic New Mexican Cuisine. Stoped in this little mom and pop New Mexican diner for breakfast. Wasn't expecting much but boy were we surprise. The Chorizo and Egg Burrito was fantastic especially with a side of fresh Hatch green chili sauce. Quite spicy but very satisfying. We also tried fresh hatch green chilie Relleno. OMG. They didn't look the greatest but damn they were delicious. I highly recommend this place if you want some authentic chili dishes.
google avatar

Yelp
I've eaten a lot of chicken enchiladas over the years and it's possible these were the very best. I had stopped in Hatch on the way to the Balloon Festival a couple years ago and remembered having some good tacos here. So glad I stopped in again. The enchiladas with the green sauce were fantastic. The 250-mile trip for lunch wouldn't be entirely out of the question!
google avatar

Jennifer S.

Yelp
The food and service are great, but know that it may close early. We felt very lucky for being able to eat here, because it was good - spicy, yummy, and filling. The chile rellenos is a perfectly prepared Hatch chile (of course!). The enchiladas actually cool the palate. The taco is crispy and yummy. Don't expect any frills - it doesn't need them. If it weren't for the long drive, I would want to go more. If you're in Hatch early enough in the day, please try to go here. Not fancy, but yummy!!!

Yelp
Somethings are difficult to describe. When at a loss, the use of quotes can often be the better choice. As a play on an epic scene from the movie Pulp Fiction, Vincent Vegas asks to try a $5 dollar milkshake. However, in relation to Valley Cafe we can substitute the milkshake for their green chile cheeseburger. "Do you mind if I try your cheeseburger?" "Sure" "I gotta know what this burger tastes like" Vincent takes a bite of the burger. His eyes light up as all the dopamine rushes through his brain. The sweet burn of green chile dilates his pupils. As Vincent inhales to take in all the flavor and euphoria he takes another bite of burger. "Gosh-dang that's a pretty F&@$ing good burger. Now that's worth every frickin penny, AND, it's pretty F@&$ing good!" Well done Valley Cafe.

Yelp
I was on a roadtrip around NM and knew I had to stop at the Hatch chile capitol and see what it was all about. After seeing it for myself, this is definitely a must stop if you're passing through the area. I am not usually one to get a burger but after perusing the reviews I felt it was my obligation to give the green chile burger at Valley Cafe a try. I was NOT disappointed. In fact, I don't know if I can ever eat a cheeseburger without hatch chiles on it ever again. This was one of the best burgers I've ever eaten, hands down. Service was quick, my meal was super reasonably priced and I left with an INCREDIBLY full belly. 5-stars for sure!

Yelp
Wanna feel the burn?? Real burn? Cant say I did not warn you! Green Chile from hatch Nm is some hOooOt stuff. Had a green Chile burger from this cafe and definitely was hot but tasted so good you could not stop. This place ain't for weenies.

Michelle M.

Yelp
We had came to hatch to get some green Chile. We are not from hatch and had considered reviews before we decided to eat at this place. We had been looking forward to having the food all reviews were raving about. While waiting for our food our waitress never checked on us. Another waitress checked on us and mentioned she was not sure what was taking our food so long to be served. After waiting for an hour for our food we left. Other people that came in after us had received the same food we had ordered. In much less time than we had been waiting. We were aware that there would be a wait but an hour wait when people that came in after us were being served was very inconsiderate especially when there was no explanation much less an apology. I would not recommend this place.

Yelp
Had a long drive and stopped here since not much else was around. Apparently they are famous for their green chili burger but we had them for a couple days in a row. Instead we got the Al pastor tacos. OMG! They were the best I've ever had. The rice and beans were great too. Wish I didn't live 1500 miles away or I'd be a regular customer. Sorry for the empty plate. We ate it so fast :)
google avatar

Karin H.

Yelp
Stopped for a late lunch while passing through Hatch. We were within there last hour before closing but never felt rushed. The Food was excellent and the service was as well. It was apparent that this was more than just a roadside stop for tourists as locals were greeted as they came in. If

Yelp
This wonderful little restaurant may be plain in terms of decor, but in terms of food, this place is outstanding! They have the most amazing green chile salsa and green chile enchiladas. I ordered mine with chicken and in the platter style so it was served with whole beans and rice. Delicious!!! It was heavy on the cheese so just keep that in mind. I would like to add that my husband, New Mexican born and raised, therefore, a chile purist, LOVED this place and said it reminded him of his grandmother's home cooking. To note, when they ask if you want onions, you say yes unless of course you dislike onions. Staff was friendly. You pay at the register.
google avatar

Yelp
This is not your Big City California Cuisine but truly an amazing small town dinner experience. My group of friends were looking for a Hatch experience without standing in line at the Sparkys. We found it at the Valley. The cafe has not been updated in decades which made it better. The food was great hatch green Chile dinner cuisine. The Huevos rancheros were a 10. The Chile was perfect flavor and heat. Our waitress was born to be a waitress in a small town cafe, she was the best. The locals made us feel welcome and helped us order their favorites.
google avatar

Hatem C.

Yelp
:) mmm good! Especially if you love spicy food. The green Chile burger is a must try.

Yelp
So what do you do when you find yourself in Hatch New Mexico? You eat Hatch green chilies of course! On our way back to where we are staying we passed through Hatch and decided to stop at this little local cafe. Other reviews on this little cafe said to try the Lara burger. They weren't wrong, a 1/4 lb burger topped with lettuce, tomato, cheese and a pile of green chilies, came with crisp hot fries. Tasty and filling, it hit the spot perfectly. Fast friendly service and good prices make this a place we would definitely return too.
google avatar

Yelp
Food is overpriced and marginally good. Expected much better for the other ratings on Yelp Very disappointing.

Kayla M.

Yelp
My family and I stopped at this restaurant to eat breakfast with high hopes. We entered in knowing full well that it was going to be a wait due to the sign on the door. When we sat down we had our drink orders taken and received 3 mediocre iced teas with very little ice on one very hot day. We then placed our food order right away and waited... and waited... and waited. We saw many people come in after us and leave. We were becoming impatient due to this but still didn't say anything. We were not checked on, nor given a reason why our food was taking so long. There were 3 of us and many tables the same size with the same food orders were served before us. We were eventually told by our waitress she didn't "know what was going on with our order" and were given some chips and salsa. By the time we were fed up and getting ready to leave they told us "we are busy" "there is a sign that it's going to take a while" "it's almost ready" no apologies, no explanation. Again we waited a good amount of time with no complaints. We ordered two bowls of menudo and a plate of huevos rancheros. Simple. We saw many many bowls of menudo go out and many plates of similar egg breakfasts go out to people who came in and ordered after us. When we left we went to another restaurant down the street and ordered two bowls of menudo and chicken flautas. It came out within 10 minutes. Will not go to this restaurant again. Very disappointed with the service.

Yelp
I have read all the reviews and can't believe they praise this fast-food joint to such an extent. It's just a cheeseburger with a spoonful of green chile on it. Just like you can get anywhere in New Mexico. There are "Lotaburger" restaurants for green chile cheeseburger all over the state. I must be missing something so amazing, exciting and fearless about this place and its food
google avatar

Denise W.

Yelp
Little town mom & pop family cafe. Our waitress was very nice and inviting. I had the cheese enchiladas...the sauce was good, but for the price it should have came with rice and beans. The hubby got the chicken sandwich, which he said there was more bun than chicken. Overall....the place is clean, it was July 4th and they were open so we could stop for lunch on our road trip, and the service was good.
google avatar

Yelp
Always stop In on way to Albuquerque and back to Tucson may not look like much but some of the best Mexican food you can eat great service taste like homemade never been disappointed
google avatar

David N.

Yelp
What a delightful surprise. Several friends had said you MUST go to Sparky's, but apparently everyone else got the same advice and there was a long, long line. We went around the corner to Valley Cafe, an unprepossessing kind of hole in the wall, and it was fabulous. Superb green chili cheeseburger and onion rings for me, terrific cheese enchiladas for my wife, cheerful and attentive staff, low prices -- everything you could ask for.
google avatar

Chuck L.

Yelp
Stopped here during a chile run. Forsook the usual ?, popular stop in town (you know who you are ) and hit this outside patio on the main drag. Red enchilada plate with an egg, onions, and rice and beans was outstanding. Tasted totally homemade! The Lara green chile cheeseburger and onion rings was really good too. Family run (Becky was an excellent server), and an overall must try experience. I will dream of the enchilada plate for many moons...

Yelp
I try to give a place a few tries and then leave a review. In this case my opinion has not changed: I love this place! The food is excellent; the prices are just about right; the service is pretty quick; the restaurant is an unassuming establishment which is appropriate for everyone; the owners are sweet people. I go out of my way to come here! Also, my mom absolutely cannot have spicy foods for medical reasons: she was able to eat fine and was very happy while I asked for a spicy dish and got my request in spades. It really is perfect for the whole family!
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
Stopped here based on Yelp reviews and some personal recommentations. We found that the five stars given by many reviewers to be overly generous. Service was fine. The green chili was tasty but not exceptional. Our basket of 'complimentary chips' consisted of six or so broken chips. Many NM restaurants seem to think chips are gold. Next time we will try the burger joint around the corner.
google avatar

Aaron B.

Yelp
It was good. The strangest part is though: I haven't stopped thinking about it since I left. Felt like a dream. The green chile is a land with no regrets.
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
Awesome friendly service with tasty food...and great prices! We had the Chile cheese burger and and it was filling! The Chile had a good flavor and was a little spicy! Stop by and give em a try!

Kimberly M.

Yelp
Best chilaquiles I've ever had! They weren't on the menu - thank goodness I asked if they served them!
google avatar

Kindra D.

Yelp
So so good! We got combination plates Christmas style (both green and red hatch peppers) and it was everything we wanted and more! So flavorful
google avatar

Aaron F.

Yelp
This one of my favorite places when passing through Hatch. The burgers imo are the best in town. I've tried a lot of different items on the menu from the burgers to the barbacoa to chile con carne. All have been very flavorful and fresh. Service has always been with a smile even when the waitress is servicing multiple tables. The decor is dated but this adds to the character of this place. The food served is cooked well and you can tell it has served the this farming community many years.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
Found this place in Hatch, by accident, but great find! My 13 year old son had the double burger with cheese and bacon. My wife had the beef flauta plate and I had the Lara Green Chile, Cheese Burger. We all enjoyed our food. The chips and salsa were great! We will be back! The staff was great and our food came out quickly.
google avatar

Valerie V.

Yelp
Walked in and was the 1st person here and the lady behind me walked in and the waitress asked the lady behind me what does she want to drink and gave her a menu before me. Finally got to hubby and I and asked us what we want to drink. This is the reason for the poor stars but yes the food was good and yes I would return.
google avatar

Alan J A.

Yelp
I had the unique opportunity to spend some time at the Valley Cafe for a meeting. My breakfast was flawless omelette made to perfection. Coffee smooth and strong . Hostess and kitchen help all very friendly. Read this next part closely... the entire restaurant and the restroom PRISTINELY CLEAN !! I explore you if you can make it to Hatch enjoy this hidden gem .

Yelp
Best green chile ever. Hot, but not too hot, and as fresh tasting as early morning. I wasn't hungry but ate an entire bowl and then got a quart to go. It's that good. The service is great, too.
