We were a little unsure of what to expect when we booked a condo on the beach in Maui. We hadn't been to Maui before, and we hoped we were going the right avenue with getting a condo instead of a hotel. With meals being expensive, we found it important to have a nice kitchen area in hopes of making breakfast/lunch "in" every day in order to save money.
We were absolutely delighted when we rolled into suite 408 after a long flight from Cincinnati, Ohio. Not only was the unit newly renovated (new carpet), it was very clean and had a nice home feeling to it. The views of the condo were absolutely out of this world. I was a bit worried about the units at Valley Isle not having air conditioning, but it wasn't at all a problem. With all windows and the screen door open, there was a nice breeze flowing through the unit at all times. We liked how the two bedroom doors had a closed off bathroom. Because we were staying with another couple, this extra privacy was very nice.
My favorite area was the balcony off of the master bedroom. We had the screen door open at all times and slept to the sounds of the ocean waves rolling onto the beach. Talk about perfection! The kitchen was very nice and well stocked. There were even some fun kitchen gadgets that we don't even have at home! We used the washer/dryer twice and it worked very well. On top of all that - condo 408 is a FANTASTIC place to watch a beautiful sunset.
I think part of the reason the condo felt so much like home was because of all the items that were already stocked in the condo: binoculars for whale watching, board games, books, CD guide for the "Road to Hana," wine glasses, phones, fax machine, wireless, internet, hair dryers, ironing boards, extra towels, etc. We felt right at home from the moment we got into 408.
The Valley Isle resort is very nice and we were pleased with the pool area and the beach. While there aren't ample chairs at the beach, we certainly never had problems finding one. There were many times we had the entire pool area to ourselves in the afternoon which was fun. We never used the grill, but saw people over there from time to time and it looked like a nice setup. Valley Isle is conveniently located and close to Kanapali (sp?) and Lahaina. It was a quick drive to Front Street and Whalers Village where we enjoyed many wonderful evening dinners.
Prior to our stay in condo 408, we had a few phone conversations/emails with the owner, Kenn. What a friendly gentleman. He even left a packet of information with his recommendations on local restaurants, shops, places to swim, etc.
We had a great time in Maui and a great time in Kenn's suite (408)!
