Had two excellent meals here. Wonderful atmosphere (at the bar) and very cool open concept kitchen. Wings, salmon, and burger (local butcher meat) were all stellar. Zero complaints and was so good the first night that I went back the second out of two nights in town. All the staff were great, particularly Logan and Moriah (hope I spelled that right). Thank you both. And manager Ryan is running a great restaurant. Will look forward to another meal here soon, arroz con pollo is next on the list ;)

I had a very nice experience here. When the food was lacking, the management really stepped up to remediate the issue. That is why Van Acre is getting 5 stars from me. What I ordered: 🍗Chicken wings - Unbelievably good; a must try. 🧀Brisket Queso: tasty 🥗Van Acre Salad: refreshing and savory 🥩Filet: had good flavor, but it was tough and slightly overcooked beyond medium rare 🥩Ribeye: Again, good flavor but slightly overcooked and tough to chew 🍰Spiced Banana Cake: A delicious ending to a good meal. For the main entrees, I believe the quality is normally better than what was served. I will be coming back to try more!

We had an absolutely magical experience in the new gorgeous igloos last night. The service was outstanding - thank you, Rob! The food was phenomenal - the Tomahawk pork chop, the ribeye, the filet, the brussels, the curds, the pizzas - literally everything on the menu is delicious. Thank you for providing such an incredible dining experience in Wausau to make sweet memories as a family. God Bless!

First visit to Van Acre. Alexis took excellent care of our table. Our cocktails and dinner were excellent. "She" had the Sea Bass - delicious and perfect, served over cuscus. "He" had the Salmon - delicious and perfectly prepared. Note- it would be more comfortable at the "6 high top" if the bucket stools swiveled.

My husband and I recently celebrated our anniversary with our first visit to Van Acre—and we were absolutely blown away. From start to finish, everything exceeded our expectations. The food was exceptional, the staff (especially our waitress Carley) was warm and attentive, and the atmosphere was both elegant and inviting. We began with a couple of drinks and the brussels sprouts appetizer, which were perfectly crisp and full of flavor. For our main courses, my husband enjoyed the Philly cheesesteak pizza, while I savored the ribeye—cooked to perfection. We ended the evening with the crème brûlée, which was rich, creamy, and simply unforgettable. We both agreed: this was the best dining experience we've ever had. Van Acre has quickly become our favorite restaurant, and we can't wait to return!

My fiancé and I went to dinner for his birthday. They did everything to make sure it was perfect. Card, friendly staff, checking in frequently. The waitress and manager were amazing. We will soon be returning for my birthday. Excited to bring my kiddos to experience the igloo!

We had breakfast here our first morning at and it was so good that we went back for dinner and it did not disappoint. Our food was amazing (including the bread) and excellent customer service. We were so impressed. Can't wait to go back!

Google
I love everything about Van Acre and can't say enough good things. It's become our favorite go-to dinner date place. Everything from the atmosphere to the service and food is incredible every single time. We drive 1.5 hours to eat here often and I highly recommend it, even if it's a ways away, it will be worth your time!

Yelp
We went here because it was touted and described as a "supper club". This is not a supper club. It is a restaurant attached to a hotel. There is as a large sports bar with games playing but, that is not why we came here. We made reservations and still had to wait. When we were seated, it was at a high-top in the bar area with a very wobbly table. We asked to move to a regular table which was done "after they cleaned one off. So..... I would expect some bread and butter at the table. When we asked they said they didn't "do that" they did make us some burnt pieces of toast with olive oil. It was gross. What I will say, and what saves this review at 4 stars are the chefs working on an old school wood burning adjustable rack system with an open to see galley and cooking the steaks to absolute perfection.

Yelp
We had reservations for Thursday night and it's a good thing we did because it was really busy. Even with it being busy, the service was good. We ordered the bread plate to start and some drinks. I ordered the bison lasagna. It was pretty good, however I wish there would have been a little more with it. The rest of our party had salads and the salmon, all which they said was good. The atmosphere is lovely and they even have outdoor domes that look fun. I'd be back.

Yelp
This place is incredible! At first I thought how good can a restaurant be if attached to a hotel. I was very wrong. From start to finish this place was amazing and the food was 10/10. Highly recommended. I will 100% be back

Yelp
We had an incredible igloo experience as well as pre-dinner cocktails at the bar. Hosts, bartenders, and our server were all very personable and we had awesome customer service! We felt very taken care of and welcome! Cocktails are craft made and top-notch! The igloo experience is fantastic - even your own speaker for the table to curate tunes! Food was fabulous as well - everything we ordered was perfect! Love the flatbreads! Thanks for an incredible experience- we made great memories! This is a big city experience in a small town - totally impressed!

Yelp
We were in Wausau from MKE for a night to hike at Rib Mountain and found this place through Yelp. Our server, Rob, was great - friendly and knowledgeable and on top of everything - and the food was seriously delicious. We had the Brussel sprouts to start, the tomahawk pork chop and the short rib entrees and all were exceptional. The cocktail menu was well crafted and the two we ordered were good. We didn't expect to be this impressed. If we were closer, we would be regulars here.

Yelp
Went to Granite Peak for skiing on a weekend and had dinner at this restaurant. This is at the Hilton Garden Hotel. This is a very high class restaurant and the service was excellent. They were able to give us a private room for our large group. They had excellent cocktails and the food was delicious. Several appetizers we had were all excellent. One of the best Hilton garden restaurants we have been to.
google avatar

Yelp
Van Acre is a restaurant within the Hilton Garden in. There is ample parking and plenty of seating inside, at the bar, and they even have a nice patio for the warmer weather. I visited twice recently when I was home visiting Wausau for a week. The first time was for dinner. Our server was very kind, even bringing us a pitcher of sparkling water when we both ordered it, so we could have more if needed. The drinks here are pretty solid & look really nice. I got the Garden Gimlet as I really love celery and cucumber. It was very refreshing. The Crispy Brussels Sprouts were fantastic. I got the Salmon medium rare which was cooked to perfection. I really enjoyed the flavors of the smoked beet mousse, cabbage and saffron shiitake pearled couscous. This plate was very good. The 2nd night I went back just for drinks. We had a great time and I enjoyed Nutty Sidecar & a glass of wine. The food here is really good and the service is as well. I think this might be my favorite place to dine in Wausau.

Karen S.

Yelp
Awesome service, amazing food, wonderful ambiance and fantastic experience! It was our anniversary and the staff went out of their way to make everything perfect, we'll be back!

Yelp
High class (but pricey) steakhouse. The experience was just over the top my steak was done perfectly and flavorful and tender. The sides were amazing the staff were very professional very attentive. This will be my go to steak house.

Yelp
Stayed here on business with a coworker, and ate both dinner and breakfast. Both were fantastic. The service was so friendly, from absolutely everyone I was in contact with from both the hotel and restaurant. My coworker stays up here about 1x a week and refuses to stay anywhere else, and regularly brings clients here. The price and quality of the food is stellar, and the whole hotel and restaurant are gorgeous. Outdoor seating options as well if the weather is cooperative. I would HIGHLY reccomend this restaurant as a stop, for a drink, food, or full stay! If I am in the area it's a for sure stop. Lots of seating options, from tables, to cozy booths, outside, comfy bar & high tops, and I hear they even have outdoor igloo/tent options in the winter.

Yelp
This is the best restaurant experience in Wausau. I have been here many times over the last few years and needed to add a review. The service and atmosphere is great. Van Acre does great work at mixing comfort and relaxation with higher end feel and service. The smoke plate has it all for appetizers and the dates need to be tried. The burgers, sandwiches and wood fired pizzas are delicious and reasonably priced for a place like this. The scallops are crazy good and the best tomahawk pork chop I've ever had. Wood fired steaks are great too if you want something more up scale. You can have a great meal if you want a burger and a beer or a fine dining experience. The main dining room is busy and has a great vibe. There is a private dining area if that is more your style. Van Acre is where it is at in Wausau.

Yelp
This restaurant is inside the Hilton Inn. I ordered the Angus Ribeye. It was delicious! I did wished there was a but more veggies on the side. Pricey but you're paying for quality. Service was great. Everyone was super friendly.

Matthew H.

Yelp
Yelp ask the question: What went well? The answer to that is simple: Everything. The Harvest Arancini was absolute perfection to start the meal. The best, and most surprising, part of the starter was the horseradish maple syrup which complemented the dish perfectly. The staff has a perfect blend of attentive but not so much that it is intrusive to the dining experience. The Date & Duck pizza was superb. The ingredients were perfectly paired together. The Cacio e Pepe was surprising at how good it was, and under the advice of the chef added a little red pepper flake to kick it up a notch and was amazing with a little bit of spice added to it! Finishing our evening with the Autumn Dreams cake was amazing. Highly recommend giving Van Acre a visit.

Yelp
Food- excellent! Drinks- excellent Staff- excellent Building- Cool Like the little summer patio too The only potential issue I see is price. It's not cheap. May not be a deterrent for families coming up for ski weekends or business travelers but could hurt them becoming a go to for locals.

Alan K.

Yelp
Great food along with the service. I will be going back for sure The alcohol drinks where especially tasty

Lori T.

Yelp
Luke was our server and was the best service we had in a very long time. Knowledgeable and attentive. Food recommendations were on point. Thank you for a great experience!
google avatar

Loke K.

Yelp
I have never had a better breakfast anywhere and breakfast is my favorite meal. I would highly recommend this place for breakfast. I did not have a lunch or dinner here. Quality, real butter, Nueske bacon, eggs cooked the way you order them. Makes me want their breakfast right now! If you are in Wausau, WI and it's breakfast time...go now!

Yelp
Had an amazing meal with a beautiful view. We were tucked into a sweet little corner booth, where we could enjoy some privacy. Warmly greeted, and the service was excellent. Will be back to celebrate another happy event soon! Everything was superb.

Yelp
We went here for a family dinner and could not be happier with the decision. Amazing food, great service, and l wonderful atmosphere. The flavors are unique but bold. Our waitress was amazing. We will be going back.

Katie L.

Yelp
Every time that I've visited Van acre, the entire staff has been beyond friendly and happy to be there. Last night the manager or gentleman that was seating people was kindly able to seat us due to a cancellation and it was so appreciated being bumped ahead of our original reservation. The food, drinks, server, and ambiance were 10/10!

Matt L.

Yelp
Absolutely incredible experience here. The food, the ambiance, and the service were all outstanding. They cook on Argentine wood fire grills which is a new thing in this area and the chefs are very adept in this cooking technique. We had the Brussels sprout appetizer that was amazing. My wife had the rib eye and I had the lamb chops and both were outstanding. Highly recommend a stop here!
google avatar

Claire L.

Yelp
This is a nice restaurant inside the Hilton Garden hotel. It has a conference room too for work dinners. Food is good although it's on the heartier side. I had the Van Acre chip salad which was doused in creamy dressing and bites of sausage. I felt like I was eating a creamed salad! Main course was salmon with polenta. The portion is very generous and the salmon was perfectly grilled. However, the polenta tasted very heavy. Loved the S'mores cake! Overall, this place would be good for a nice evening out if you like hearty dishes.
google avatar

John R.

Yelp
Incredible! Very very good place. I eat here every time I stay at the hotel, and it never lets me down. It makes the best drinks and has the best food of almost any restaurant that I travel to.

John H.

Yelp
Wausau deserves a place like this. Upscale, non-supper club, good vibes with staff that is clearly making effort to give diners an enjoyable experience. However, it is on the pricier side, especially for Wausau. Came for our Anniversary and the front of the house called ahead to see if they could do anything special for the occasion. Also had a card waiting for us at the table. Our server, Jacob was attentive and had good recommendations. We started with the bread service, and drinks - the wife really liked the watermelon spicy margarita. My hazy IPA was just OK - needed citrus IMO. As entrees, we had the salmon and filet. The steak was great and juicy, perfectly cooked, as were the potatoes w/ onions that came with it. Salmon was also flavorful and unique, but the 'slaw' on top was a bit wilted and forgettable. Dessert menu is small, but the torte was good, not too sweet and had a nice raspberry compote. Overall very nice and memorable experience.

Ruthie B.

Yelp
Well, I really wanted to like it, but the bar opens at four the kitchen doesn't open until five and my son and I were too hungry to sit there and drink for an hour. The wine list looks nice though, and I'm excited to come back and try the menu.
google avatar

PJ G.

Yelp
This is the best place I've been in Wausau so far and it's connected to the HGI where I stay. Cheese curds are superb. Pizzas are top notch. Salads are fresh. Tomahawk Pork Chop is best pork chop I've ever eaten. Still moving through the menu, but everything has been great. Wine is chilled which makes a huge difference. Service is superb from hostesses, servers to bartenders and managers.
google avatar

Mary H.

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere and basically farm to table fresh. You won't find an experience like this anywhere else in the Wausau area. 10/10 recommend you give it a try! P.s. the shortbread pudding is to die for.

Victor C.

Yelp
This restaurant apparently opened in September 2021 and I'm shocked there's no reviews on it yet here on Yelp. Absolutely phenomenal restaurant. We had the Angus Ribeye and the Roasted half Chicken. Both excellent meals. The kitchen is in plain view and you can see everything being made. Extremely friendly staff, very modern and rustic scenery inside with an option to reserve outdoor igloos during fall/winter time. Had I known this would be the first review I'd have taken more pictures! Hopefully someone else can add onto this review. 10/10 HIGHLY recommended Van Acre if you're stopping by in Wausau or staying the weekend at Granite Peak!!!
google avatar

Yelp
One of the best restaurants in Wausau. Ordered the pork chop. 3 out of 4 in our party ordered it. It was pricey but it was the best pork chop I have ever eaten. All 3 of us agreed we will be back to eat at this restaurant again. It is a pretty restaurant and very relaxing. Quiet with outstanding service. Love that you can make reservations. Also the 4 th party member order pizza. It also was delicious. That person is gluten intolerant and the comment on the pizza was that it was a homemade crust and not one that was frozen first. Great experience!!

Nino M.

Yelp
Food was delicious!! Great service and the ambiance was on point. The dates wrapped in bacon were so good. Highly recommend them.

Richelle R.

Yelp
First time at Van Acre and I wasn't sure what to expect. I was amazed at how good the food was. I tried the grilled salmon with risotto and it was so delicious I craved it again and again! The service was great. They greeted you with a smile and always made great recommendations. The ambiance was cozy. For dinner it was just the right amount of dim. The booths were cozy and I loved the patio (outdoor seating area) it was spacious enough to have out meet and greet event. I would definitely recommend.

Brent T.

Yelp
Wow! Gaige was my server. He was awesome. I was in town caring for my 72 year old father who fell from a ladder up in three lakes. I had a whistle pig whisky to start, tomahawk pork chop with door county cherry glace and the en route Pinot Noir from Far Niente. The food and service was over the top excellent. I live in Iowa and know good beef and pork. The chop was to die for, I thought I was dreaming. If you are looking for a place to stay and eat for the night, I cannot imagine a better spot in central Wisco.it's in the Hilton but is literally the best restaurant for a middle level hotel (it's connected but I'm assuming local owners) I have ever had. Puts the Hilton in Chicago or SF to shame.

Linda H.

Yelp
we love this restaurant. the food is excellent, the atmosphere is outstanding and the wait staff is exceptional. our waitress, Britany was so helpful in making our dinner selections. we always stop here on our annual trip to the North Woods. You won't be disappointed. our breakfast was a hit. try the cinnamon roll French toast.
google avatar

Peter L.

Yelp
Great food. Service was fantastic. Would have given it 5 stars but you were out of a couple dishes that we were really looking forward too and it was early in the evening. Poor planning and inventory control
google avatar

Scootir L.

Yelp
The venue is quite nice and the staff were fabulous. Their Caesar salad was great, but I tried their burger which was hands down the worst I have ever tasted. A bizarre flavorless mess of pulled pork piled on a plain patty with an egg and no condiments. Less of a burger and more of a poorly conceived sandwich. I moved on to the grilled peach cobbler which was served goopy and mostly raw. Too bad as the place came well recommended. Maybe they were just having a bad night.
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
Second time here, highly recommend the salmon. Server Moriah was very attentive and gave great suggestions. Nice ambiance. Will be back!
google avatar

Lisa Y.

Yelp
Wow! Wow! Wow! This place is top notch! We had amazing drinks crafted by Blake and Brad! Appetizers could not have been better...OMG the wings and Cheese Curds are the best ever! I have not been out to eat at a better establishment with this great of a menu in a LONG time! I wish I lived closer, but I will be dreaming of the next time I can come back! Obviously people know it is great because you must get a reservation and the place is thriving!! So plan ahead if you want to go...

Christopher H.

Yelp
The Vanhattan and Old Fashioned, this is not just a place to get food while you're in the hotel this is a destination to come to whether you're at this hotel or not! Thanks Jordan!

Lucy H.

Yelp
Best breakfast! This was our second time at Van Acre's and it was the best breakfast I ever had dining out. I had the best scrambled eggs ever. They weren't overdone, like most restaurants and the country potatoes were perfection. The Nueske's bacon was also delicious. The only downside was our waiter, Damen. He needs more training or a different career.

Shannon S.

Yelp
We've had many great experiences here. My husband and I highly recommend Van Acre to all visiting (and local) pals. In our most recent eve here, I couldn't decide on which wine to choose. The bar staff was so delightful in helping- allowing a sample and showing helpful wine knowledge. We had a great server as well. She shared her honest opinions based on our preferences and we are so happy she did. Another wonderful eve! Thanks all!

Lane L.

Yelp
Different and great menu. We've went to the igloos the last two winters with friends (10/10!)

David H.

Yelp
I come to town once a month and ALWAYS stay at the Hilton and have dinner at Van Acre. It is THE BEST restaurant in Wausau! The service and food are outstanding! Moriah is excellent! She always gives great suggestions and descriptions, and ensures my dining experience is top notch! The sous chef, Arkiell also does a fantastic job! From creating fabulous dinners to stopping by the tables and engaging with the guests, she goes above and beyond! Oh, and Adam and Erika kill it behind the bar! Best cocktails for mikes around! My experience is always enhanced by these and the rest of the fabulous staff! This place keeps me coming back, and I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great night out! Keep being amazing!

Yelp
I decided to eat at the bar because I was on my own for the evening. I did not want to take up a table. I sat at the bar and at some point the people sitting on either side of me left leaving an open seat on either side of me. I had ordered a drink off the cocktail menu and it was very good. However, when I ordered the GF wings as an appetizer I was literally in the middle of chewing and was asked by a bartender to move. She asked me to move over so someone could have two stools together. Now I am all for trying to be friendly but the reason the stools were empty is because other people left. They weren't empty when I sat down. And I was mid chew. They appeared to know the bartending staff. Additionally the man offered to hang on to my bag while I moved seats!!!! What the heck. Do not touch my expensive handbag SIR. Look, I travel A LOT. I often have to eat alone. I have never been asked to move to make room for the bartenders friends at what is trying to be an upscale establishment. I moved. Placed my order for my ribeye and proceeded to empty my drink while I am trying to not be rude about the whole situation. I waited so long for my next drink the couple next to me asked the bartender to attend to me. I then waited about 35 min for her to bring me my ribeye only for her to say she should check on it. It came with cold polenta and the steak was flaming. She delivered it and asked me to check the "temp" on it. FOR REAL. A $42 steak and I should check the temp. Based on the contrasting temps between the polenta and the steak my order was clearly forgotten about. I am normally very understanding about staffing. I always tip very well. There was plenty of staff. And I only tipped the standard 20% on this night vs my normal 40% or so. This restaurant is located in a Hilton property and I am a dedicated business and personal traveler with Hilton and this has got to me the most disappointing experience with their restaurant in their hotel. In addition I ordered everything GF. I chose things from the menu marked GF. When I tried to tell the bartender that it needs to be GF because I have an allergy(celiac) she simply said, " well if it's marked GF then everything on the plate will be". Not reassuring for a celiac and I did end up very sick that night post dinner. I had eaten my own food all day so it was not my food but theirs. I would not recommend eating their GF if you have an allergy.

Jamie S.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant in town, maybe anywhere! The environment is beautiful deep and rich making it feel intimate, but there is still space for larger groups to gather. The staff is top notch, friendly, genuine and fun. Their food is excellent and rivals any five star restaurant anywhere, and it's cooked over a live wood fire. Always a fantastic cocktail list, great selection of beer and spirits and a beautiful wine list.
