Van der Valk Hotel Verviers

We went here for the breakfast buffet early in the morning on a trip from Germany to France. It was one of the best breakfast buffets I have ever had, and I am spoiled by having visited many of the fancy breakfast buffets in Las Vegas (yes, they are very good, too, like the Aria's buffet for example). But in Europe I haven't seen anything this nice yet, and especially not at that price.||I cannot comment on the hotel rooms etc, but I am sure it's equally good. The lobby was very nicely decorated, staff friendly and professional.||Definitely a place worth checking out, even if just for breakfast (and charging your Tesla while you're at it ;)).

I would recommend reading this review if you have allergies. Today I made the restaurant known of my allergy to nuts. On the menu it clearly says to state if u have an allergy, on doing this i thought i would be safe. I was told anything i ordered would have a note on it sent to the kitchen to ensure it had no nuts. However, I ordered the half chicken which was served with chips, salad, apple sauce. When the food arrived there appeared to be a nut in the salad, i didn’t want to make a fuss as it may have been slight cross contamination. I avoided the salad and ate the rest of the meal. I then ordered a dessert, banana ice cream. When I told the lady of my order she was then told by a man to put down that i had a nut allergy on the note. However, when the ice cream arrived it was covered in walnuts. I had to send it back as i would have had an allergic reaction. I am unhappy with this service and it concerns me as it’s clear that they state they are willing to accommodate for allergies, but the actions presented tonight did not clearly show this. I hope other allergy sufferers see this and make sure to be aware when ordering here.

We stayed on December 27–28 (reservation PQ6268MG3770) and it was by far our worst Van Der Valk experience.||Wellness and pool closed without prior notice (main reason for booking).|Paid upgrade to Executive Suites, but ended up in Comfort Rooms after three room changes, one smelled of cigarettes.|No hot water in both rooms for the shower, never fixed.|Loud party outside until late, kids couldn’t sleep.|Our children witnessed a fight in the parking lot.|Poor service and contradictory information from reception.|Dinner : salmon served raw.|No feedback, communication from the hotel despite several emails. ||We’ve always enjoyed Van Der Valk hotels (Oostkamp, Mechelen, Maastricht), but Verviers was a disaster. Not recommend

Excellent experience. Shower (if you get a shower option) is quite short. I had to squat down to take a shower, and I am only 1.9 meters. Stairs up to a loft for any room on the 3rd floor. Unique experience, and the windows in that loft opening was a great morning breeze.

Very small bedroom overlooking a narrow street with tall flats opposite, the bedroom was dark , red and grey décor and no centre lighting , only 60cms between the base of the bed and wall to pass by to one side of the bed. The corridor was not lit in the evening and i walked into a trolley outside a bedroom , the receptionist put the lights on when i complained. Restaurant staff need retraining we were told , our reserved table was "over there "we ordered a half bottle of Macon, a carafe arrived with red wine in it, we were not told they did not have half bottles of wine. After dinner at 21.50 we asked to have a coffee and were told this was not possible as they were cleaning the machines. The receptionist said she would investigate, we were so fed up we went to our dismal bedroom. Also the choice on the menu was poor The breakfast selection was poor on cold meats, jams not labelled and the plates positioned on a low shelf which was difficult for elderly or infirm guests to reach.

Nice hotel, great breakfast. Lovely staff members. The location around the hotel is not enjoyable. But to visit other places in Belgium it's awesome to stay.

Stayed here before and it's a nice hotel. However, service at the bar is chaotic and slow and service in the restaurant (on the first night) was so slow. We ordered food at 7:45 and got served up about 9:45, so late in fact that they never even offered us desert menus. Second night was much better due almost entirely to one particular staff member.

Toilet is on the other side of the room to the bathroom, so had to go all the way back through the room to wash my hands after using the toilet. The air con was not adjustable and it was so hot in the room! I had to sleep with the window open so the cool 9 degree air could cool me down. Brekky was nice and staff nice. Checkout took a long time for our group as it was a new system apparently. Location Ok, next to the chocolate museum and a small supermarket, but feel quite out of town.
