Great selection of trees from fruiting (apples, peaches) to flowering. It's my #1 source in Manhattan where there are no nurseries. High-quality plants and produce all year. Knowledgeable staff, esp. the owner Jim Van Houten who is often onsite. You can request special trees/plants from the main nursery to be brought to Union Square if in stock. A favorite farmer!

There is so much variety of everything. From lawn ornaments to plants and saplings, vegetables and fruits, wines and entertainment! The farm has a lot to explore! My daughter enjoys the halloween setups. I definitely recommend experiencing it with your own eyes. There is a little of everything for everyone.

This is the place to buy flowers and small, smaller trees and such. The people are wonderful, the place is clean, and the plants are the healthiest around.

I Love and have Supported Van Houten Farms for 10+ years. I also really loved the cider works. The staff are great and super friendly. Whether you are going for plants/flowers, fresh fruits/veggies or other food products I have always had a great and positive experience. It's sad that crazy and delusion neighbors as well as a weak and superficial political infrastructure took away the best part of this small family run business and that is a fun/family friendly, music filled social spot which was the Cider Works!!

This place is amazing! Such a great vibe and fun environment. Also scored some beautiful geraniums! Delicious cheese and cider as well. Service was impeccable. All staff members are so kind, humble, helpful, and appreciative. I sat in the back patio and felt like I was on vacation. Will definitely be back! What a hidden gem!

This garden center and farm market was one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. I just recently moved up here from staten Island and Ryan one of the employees there went above and beyond was extremely informative and one of the kindest people I have met since moving up here. I came out here on a weekend afternoon to hang out with my family. They had Irish music and Irish beer they also had a few food trucks and some food stands. The atmosphere was very nice and relaxing. The food and drinks were good. It was nice for a van Houten farms to host us on the weekend so that friends and family can get outside.

It took me a while to discover Van Houten. The people are very nice and they have a good selection of plants. They keep improving the place so I keep coming back to check out what's new. Just a minor suggestion: I would add better labeling to the plants to explain what's most deer resistant, since we have so many around here.

How can you go wrong when there's a bier garden within a nursery farm! Perfect ambience, so romantic and relaxing... can't resist stopping by the rockland cider works bier garden. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Chips are free with your tasting! I tried a rosé but ended up with my favorite sweet riesling. I would say this is a perfect day relaxing and sitting at the super comfy adirondack chairs and contemplating on which plants to buy. I highly recommend this place whether you're garden shopping or not.

A hidden tropical oasis in the cold! My friends and I feel like we're in Florida on vacation whenever we're here. The decoration is so colorful and happy, brightly-colored chairs sit around tables like a campfire, and palm trees dance beside you. Extraordinarily reasonable prices, great food truck options, delicious cider and beer. The staff is accommodating and kind. Social distancing was enforced, and the clientele were all wearing masks. An enjoyable day with friends! We will be back.

I have lived in Rockland cty for most of my life and have never been here. What an amazing asst. of pumpkins and fall squash and geords. Parking is a bit tricky but its there. A great asst of local apples and produce and some amazing donuts. Has a cider bar and there was local music playing with seats to just sit and enjoy. I cannot believe I left the phone in the car so no pictures so guess what.......you need to go there your self

It's a very nice place to shop at with a little unpleasant detail- the rude cashier girl who thinks she's smarter than everyone else. I hope she will fix that behavior.

I was successful in ordering 50 40-pound bags of top soil and 15 HUGE bags of compost to be delivered at 7am on a Sunday (Mother's Day no less!) The last 2 years I've bought my annuals from their stand at the Union Square Farmers Market. Their price per bag of topsoil was 1/3 of the BEST cost that I found within NYC.. INCLUDING the DELIVERY CHARGE. Yeah Van Houten!

We loved their dry run cider. I loved the atmosphere. We hope to check out their live music.

Great place for FRESH seasonal produce as well as an enormous selection of plants. A bit more expensive than the big box places, but the owners know Rockland and Rockland soil. They guarantee their plants and will provide appropriate topsoil and fertilizer. Professional in every way. (Note: A previous review listed Van Houten Farms in Pearl River. It is actually located in Orangeburg, which also has a Sickletown Road.)

I had a really great experience at Van Houten Farms. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and helped me find everything I needed for spring grass and tree planting. They even gave me step-by-step planting instructions. I scheduled a delivery for a tree I ordered and it arrived right on time. As a first time homeowner with a lot of work to do to bring our yard back to life, I definitely plan on making many more trips to Van Houten Farms. Great staff and great selection of plants for every type of yard.

I have shopped for spring annuals and mid season shrubs here for a few years. It's pricey, but sometimes I like to spend a bit more to support local businesses. But won't go back. The cashier there seems rude. If she doesn't like something about the transaction, anything from how you count your annuals to petting the cat, she repeatedly chastises you. Being told you've committed an error once is ok, but lecturing me ad nauseum is over the top. Not a friendly place. They have a nice selection, but it's not worth the tradeoff for being treated with disrespect. I recently discovered a much nicer place near Cranbury (yes, a bit of a hike) but prices are half and the family run business is professional, knowledgeable and helpful.

Lived in the area forever and this family business has evolved with the times. Used to buy annuals and veggies from big box but the yield and quality disappointed. You may spend just a little more at times but the plants do not disappoint. Best hanging flower selection in the area and the perennials are super healthy. I now only buy exclusively at Van Houtens and it is just around the corner. My husband and I wait every year for them to set up the fresh produce section because we are obsessed with their tomatoes and corn....we are there 3x a week. Worth the drive and staff is super helpful and friendly.
