6 Scenic Amtrak Routes to Book Just for the Views

"After a long post-covid hiatus, Amtrak Cascades has resumed its service from Vancouver, B.C., to Seattle, so passengers can yet again enjoy one of the most gorgeous coastal journeys in the country. Nothing feels more invigorating than boarding the sleek service at 6:30 a.m., coffee in hand, and sliding into a window seat in the Bistro Car to watch the morning mist lift off the water. Murky and dark, with bridges barely visible through the haze, the scene soon softens to peach and blue as the sun breaks through, warming the air to reveal inlets and bays that emerge then recede as the train curls down the coast. At times, it feels as though the train is free-wheeling across the ocean with nothing but water flanking it, and the occasional spray from waves in winter months. Rocky shores gather up against the tracks, and huge bald eagles perch on fences watching the train belt around fingers of green farmland that poke out unannounced. Passing piers, abandoned boats, and dog walkers waving up at the train, you’ll feel compelled to press your nose to the glass for the whole journey lest you miss even a moment of this extraordinary ride."

First time rider, super fun experience! Customer service at the Vancouver station was friendly and helpful. Staff on the train was exceptional. Seats large, great space for your carry on, luggage etc. Fun to be able to buy food/drinks…. Tons of options. Beautiful, relaxing trip to Seattle. Seattle train station fancy, clean and easy to maneuver. Very enjoyable first time ride. I can’t wait to do it again!

My first time using Amtrak, i had planned everything the day before as I had The Weeknd concert to attend. I scheduled a train ride which next day, switches to a bus ride. Not a big problem. UNTIL, it is told that the buses will arrive 3 hours later than the scheduled train departure time. This delay and constant switching has ruined the timing for my plans and day. I would not recommend this service if you are relying on it for transportation to major plans.

Traveled to El Paso round trip from January 7- February 13, 2025 roundtrip. Amtrak service was great, the conductors were kind and courteous and the station attendant was informative as I waited my late train going down. I also had a chance to meet the engineer who drove my train going down in the station, who drove my train from Portland to Kalamath Falls, OR. Will recommend travelling through their station, the only downside is they don't do checked baggage at this station which means you'd have to go to Portland if you want to have hassle free luggage check which is a small inconvenience in my opinion

We had a frustrating experience traveling by train between Vancouver and Seattle. On our first leg—from Vancouver to Seattle—the train was delayed without any estimated time of departure. No updates, no communication. We were heading to the airport for an international flight and ended up arriving with barely 20 minutes to spare. It was pretty stressful and we could have arranged other travel options had we been given better information from staff. Unfortunately, the return trip from Seattle to Vancouver was just as bad. Once again, the train was delayed with no ETA. Luckily, we didn’t have anywhere specific to be that time—but the repeated delays made it clear this service is not reliable for time-sensitive travel. If your schedule matters at all, I’d recommend looking into other transportation options. This was two-for-two on delays.

Sam went above and beyond to ensure we were safe and comfortable during our travels. After we missed our original train, she kindly rebooked us on a later train with no layovers, which ended up being even better for our schedule. Despite being the only staff member on duty that day, Sam handled everything with professionalism and a smile. Her quick thinking and outstanding service made all the difference. We are so grateful for her help!

This is a good station. Clean, friendly staff. Don't have to be very early to get on the trains. Comfortable building to wait in with food/drink vending machines. Someone should open a coffee shack right here!

Great experience. The station was simple but still cool and original. The trip was short and sweet, and the train was clean and spacious.

Not a lot of rail comes through anymore. But it's nice to see some kind of infrastructure this side of the Atlantic.
