Cape Town Itinerary: What to Do in 3, 4, or 5 Days (Updated 2025)

"For shopping, dining, and harbor views, I like spending time at the Victoria and Alfred’s Waterfront — it’s an impressive shopping locale on a historic working harbor with charming architecture, lots of restaurants (grab a balcony seat for drinks and atmosphere), and plenty of entertainment." - Matthew Kepnes

V&A Waterfront is one of the best places to spend time in Cape Town. It’s lively but not overwhelming, with a great mix of restaurants, shopping malls, and beautiful harbor views. You’ll find plenty of dining options here, from casual cafés to well-known restaurants, and the popular Time Out Market, where you can try many local dishes in one place. It’s perfect if you want to eat, walk around, and enjoy the atmosphere without rushing. And if you’re lucky, you might even spot seals sunbathing by the harbor, casually resting and playing near the water — one of those little moments that makes this place extra special. Whether you come during the day or in the evening, V&A Waterfront is a great place to relax, eat well, and soak in the energy of Cape Town.

Always popping with action!! Very safe and family friendly ❤️⭐. Lots of food options especially at Time Out food hall. Mozambik was also one of our favorites! Lots of activities like Robben Island tour, sunrise and sun set boat tours, helicopter tours, or just sit around and enjoy the happiness all around you ❤️❤️🌟🌟

Worth visiting for a good safe night out. The paid car park is not expensive and safe. Musical events are happening around the a dining area with so many restaurants to choose from. This visit we found the food court, somehow now relaxing than be in a restaurant. Took the sunset cruise with work colleagues and it was followed by cakes at the Mug&Been. Excellent views and excellent delicious cakes. The shopping for gifts are a must. Everything for everyone.

Possibly the best shopping mall in Africa for tourists. The location is unbeatable — right by the sea with a great selection of shops and restaurants. Some restaurants can feel like tourist traps, but you’re really paying for the wonderful view and atmosphere. You can also hire a water cruise from here and enjoy an unforgettable sunset on the water. The area feels very safe, lively, and often has dance or music performances that add to the experience. A must-visit spot in Cape Town.

The coolest place in Capetown to hang out. Beautiful buildings, Dining, Shopping, Entertainment. V&A Waterfront is easily the place to spend a good amount of time. Night time lighting is charming. Many short cruises, and also the popular trip to Robben Island. Famous Capetown signage is here.
