Massive praise to Edgar the museum guide, he made the visit & 1000vt entry worth it. So friendly, kind and informative about Vanuatu & all of its islands and people. He is also very talented at sand drawing & playing instruments 🤭 The actual museum exhibits & information could do with some renovating, it was difficult to read signs & info.

Interesting facts both Vanuatu and its history with displays showing wildlife, insects, uniforms, guns and historical artefacts. Nevertheless, the museum itself looks a bit outdated and rundown. It will definitely need a little love to make it more appealing. However, if you want to lead more about Vanuatu and its history it’s a good place to go! Entrance is 1500 Vatu and opening hours are according to Google. Enjoy 😉

Small but amazing museum presenting the culture of Vanuatu. Masks, outfits, weapon and ritual objects, all these elevated by awesome narration by the museum guide, Edgar. Thank you for taking us deep into the Vanuatu culture!

This museum is an absolute must-visit if you’re in Port Vila! The highlight for me was the sand drawing demonstration—it was mesmerizing to watch how these beautiful patterns were created right in front of us, each one telling a story. The museum itself is filled with fascinating artifacts, traditional instruments, and historical exhibits that really give you a sense of Vanuatu’s rich culture. The guide was amazing—super knowledgeable and passionate, making the experience even more engaging. It was an easy visit with no wait time, and I left with a much deeper appreciation for Ni-Vanuatu traditions. If you’re in town, don’t miss it!

It's currently having some renovations. Entry price today was 1000 Vatu but there was no your available. As has been said before interesting mix of artefacts but poorly lit in old display cases so some information is hard to read. We did see some sand drawing but more informed would have been better.

We spent a lovely hour at this small museum, checking out the cultural artefacts and displays. We definitely recommend paying the little extra for the guide (we paid $15 each adult for museum entry & guide), he will do sand drawing for you while telling stories and it’s so beautiful and intricate! This was the highlight of our visit, our guide Levi impressed us with his awesome sand drawing and I loved that he chatted to us about Vanuatu history and culture while he did it. There are displays of insects, stuffed animal, cultural masks, effergies & more. Bear in mind this is a small museum and don’t expect state of the art displays, instead you get a lovely cultural insight while you peruse at your leisure.

This museum is in dire need of maintenance with missing tiles and peeling ceiling. Really hope they'll maintain this place better as it'll be ashamed for a museum to fall into a state of disrepair. We had Levi who did the sand drawing and explained to us some cultural aspects of Vanuatu. It's thoroughly interesting and informative. The guided tour was more of this presentation than actually going through each display in the museum.

Small national museum and journey through time and culture. My suggestion is need to add or update exhibits.
