Varga Girl was one of the first boutiques I entered when I first arrived in Perth, and one of the retailers that stopped me telling my Sydney friends that Perth was a wasteland of cultural banality. It's expensive yes, and the clothes are rather avant-garde and on par with Dilettante's aesthetic, but if you're after something cutting edge that will make you stand out, pay Varga Girl a visit.
The store is set up kind of like a fashion museum, with clothes hanging from the ceiling creating a spectacle of their threads. The owners are clearly proud of their wares, and with brands like Camilla and Marc, Ricochet and Ant!podium, who wouldn't display their printed cotton, organic silks and structured dresses with the aplomb of a sartorial exhibition?
If shopping here is more akin to self-inflicted torture, pay attention to their jewellery, shoes and belts. They stocks a great range of belts, interesting jewellery (similar to the stuff at Behind the Monkey in Mount Lawley) and they have those leather Converse I've been lusting after for evveerrrr.
Should you wish for something other than the usual vintage crop over-saturating Perth, take heed and splash out on an investment piece from these saving graces.
