If you're looking at this review, you're probably not looking for a hotel. That being said, this is the most comfortable camp I've ever been in. We don't sleep in tents, so we picked Vassbakken for the room in the 'barracks' building with private bath and a few pieces of furniture to sit on, write on (or compute on), and to hang your stuff on. They also offer wonderful, cozy-looking huts with or without a small terrace/patio. We haven't been in one, but they look very inviting. The beds in the room we had on the second floor are not the most comfortable, but they're just fine for one or two nights. Shower is very good, water pressure is excellent, and Wi-Fi works on average speeds, but it worked everywhere we walked. The second best feature of the place is a reception, slash kitchen, slash dining room. Beautifully decorated with antique furniture and decor, they serve hearty and delicious lamb or beef stew (or you can order a steamed salmon) in the evening until 8pm. The lamb was mostly bone in my order, but the flavors and mixed veggies made up for the lack of meat. The beef stew had plenty of meat and it took both of us to finish it. The breakfast is a very typical, delicious Norwegian feast of meats, five different cheeses, four kinds of marmelades, fruit, yogurts, three kinds of milk, four types of bread, and much more. What's the best feature then? It's the nature around you. The view from the back of the property toward Skjolden, the amazing waterfall literally towering over you on the other side of the road and the majestic Norwegian working horses right across the road under the waterfall. It really cannot get any more picturesque than that. They have about six Level 2 charges for electric vehicles, big parking lot, laundry facility, shared bathrooms, and a playground for kids, along with all the camping goodies like an electric and water hookup. You won't be disappointed if you stop by and spend a few nights, in a tent, hut, camper, or a caravan, or like us in a room with an amazing view and peace and quiet.

Not a place I had planned to stay at but looking for accommodation when this site loomed into view. Great cabin in a stunning location with a really simple but filling and wholesome meal in the restaurant that evening. Well worth a detour if you are in the vicinity and looking for a good night's sleep or a decent meal or both

Perfect staying! Beautiful waterfall just in front, you can hear from your room. The double room was simple but very clean. The kitchen is very accessible. The staff was very friendly and helpful! Breakfast was great and we also had dinner at their restaurant one night and the food was delicious, very fresh.

Not open, unfriendly staff. Try publishing your opening times and amend the sign that says food and drink available. Even the entrance has no signs with opening times. No one wanted a free loo ! You are on the map as a venue. Ridiculous to have staff inside when literally hundreds of potential customers outside. Makes no sense, but remove yourself from google maps if you are so unwelcoming to a cruise ship ! 🥴

Located next to a large waterfall and there is a city nearby. Houses were a bit cramped at times but had all the necessities and the beds were comfortable. The food from the restaurant was also good. The house did not come with a freezer.

This place is incredible, don't let the 2star official rating deceive, stayed here for 1 night and it was perfect. A perfect stop for a road trip, very cheap pricing system (especially compared with other places nearby), if you can bring your own bedsheets it's even cheaper. This is the best place along the entire route 55 for stopping over, the waterfall and views nearby are breathtaking, and I've genuinely never experienced such a cosy atmosphere. High quality bathrooms accessible to guests, showers available (at an unknown cost), FREE WiFi, warm log cabins, entirely soundproof with the windows and door shut. The customer service was delightful, without going into detail, went above and beyond expectations with regards to leniency of time. Truly, a 5 star 2 star establishment. Cannot recommend higher.

We had a room at the hostel, and can only speak for that, not the rest of the camping. It was clean and nice and you have to put on your own linen. The room had a good and warm bathroom, and lovely beds. If you don't like the nearby sound of a waterfall (we did), keep your window closed. Nicely situated between a good fishing river and the mountains, close to Skjolden. It has a lot of parking space. The outdoors is very nice, a small patio with a fireplace, flowers and trees. We had our dinner outside at 9.30 pm, the best meatballs/mince meat ever! The style is charming, like and old Norwegian mountain cottage.||They offer several dishes, mostly good old Norwegian style. The breakfast is simple but good. You can buy small necessities at the reception, or have a beer/wine if you like. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Stayed in a room (did not camp) and found it super inexpensive for how spacious and comfortable it was! Extremely beautiful scenery nearby and not just the incredible waterfall you can scale. I did not have a car but found walking to Skjolden not too bad (~40 mins) and there were many hiking trails to walk (wikiLoc useful for discovering trails). The food was great and the hosts are incredibly kind people who went out of their way to make me feel at home. Remember to bring 100kr in cash if you'd like to visit the inside of Wittgenstein's cabin!
