The 15 Best Hotels in Santorini of 2024

"Vedema is a World's Best Awards 2021 winner located in the quaint village of Megalochori. The building has a rich history, having been previously used as a wine cellar and a private mansion. Now, it offers suites and full estates like the Nafsika Estate, ideal for families or groups, which comes with five bedrooms, a private pool, and butler service." - Travel + Leisure Editors

We stayed at Vedema for 5 nights while in Santorini for our wedding, and our stay could not have been more perfect. The property is absolutely beautiful, with views of the sea, the vineyards, and the surrounding charming village of Megalochori. If you are looking for a 5-star property that is removed from the crowds and located in a much more authentic area than Fira and Oia, look no further. We arranged airport transfers through the hotel. George, our lovely driver, was waiting for us at JTR and immediately took our bags to the car. On the 20-minute drive, he gave us some great information on the island and the town, pointing out landmarks and information about the island. We bumped into him a few times during our stay, and he was always so friendly and asked us how our stay was going. Upon arrival, we found out that the resort had upgraded us to a suite with private hot tub, which was a lovely surprise. The reception agent that checked us in gave us a property tour on the way to our room. When we arrived, champagne and fresh fruit were waiting for us. On our first night, we ate dinner at Alati, the onsite fine dining restaurant. They offer a 10% discount on your first evening. Vasilis, the F&B manager, greeted us, gave us a tour of the old winery that the restaurant is built into. He was so friendly and passionate about the property, and we loved learning all of the little details that make this place unique. After we sat down, the entire service staff at the restaurant took great care of us, explaining each course, being vigilant about refilling wine and water, and timing courses perfectly. The entire meal was incredible and we were sad we only had time to eat there once during the trip. Daily breakfast was included with our room, and that was also fantastic. Staff were wonderful and friendly, food was served promptly, and the poolside area was a lovely spot to dine at. Housekeeping was thorough, and our room was serviced multiple times each day with fresh towels, amenities, and ensuring the bathroom was always clean. (you cannot flush toilet paper in Santorini, so they made sure the bathroom never had trash in it for more than a few hours) The rest of the stay was beyond perfect. The staff at the property got to know us throughout our stay, and always greeted us and asked how we were when they saw us. We felt so at home at the resort and were so sad to leave. We loved that the concierge use WhatsApp to communicate - we could text at any time, day or night, with questions or requests, and we were answered promptly. We had 30 guests in Santorini for our wedding, and only about 10 stayed at Vedema. However, the resort had no issues being our home base, and we often had wedding guests join us at the pool for cocktails or lunch. The day after our wedding, they allowed us to eat our leftover wedding cake at the poolside restaurant, and provided plates and silverware, and even brought over a complimentary bottle of champagne for us to enjoy with it. We will be back to Santorini many times to celebrate our anniversaries, and Vedema is the only property we want to stay at when we return. We will be back many times.

Excellent service by the staff who have been very well trained and carry out their duties with courtesy and professionalism helps make this an excellent choice of hotel. Thank you to the staff for all your attention during our stay. The resort is tucked away from the busier towns which makes it even more enjoyable to return to after a day exploring. Low level buildings with privacy for all. Limited choice of restaurants in October for alternative dining experiences. We hired a car which allowed us to explore the island which we would recommend. Baikas travel organised airport transfers for us at competitive price and communication was excellent and their drivers were punctual so a good alternative if you do not feel confident driving here. |My only niggle is that the aircon was not very efficient but not a big issue mid October. Overall. I would highly recommend this hotel for a relaxing and quiet stay in Santorini.

What a fabulous vacation we had on Santorini in a good part due to selecting this hotel. Great location away from the cruise ship crowds that go through Fira and onto Oi. We rented a car which was ideal. Airport 15 minutes, Oi 30-40 minutes, Fira 15 minutes , Perissa Beach 15 minutes. Highly recommend looking at the cruise ship schedule before visiting Oi or Fira! We went to Fira on a non cruise ship day and it was great! The hotel is located in a small village and the local restaurants and shops were fantastic. The hotel itself is beautifully laid out. We highly enjoyed the main pool area with a bar and restaurant. It was relatively easy to secure pool chairs any time of day. Only a few pre pool time chair savers. I would say compared to other hotels, there is less pool service here re; clean towels bin sometimes empty, a couple of days chairs not cleaned from birds, but overall staff were quite nice and walking up to the bar or getting your own towels is not a game changer in terms of my rating. The staff were very welcoming everywhere we went on property. Our 2 room/2 bath suite with kitchen/living room area was huge and welcoming and most of all spotless with the room serviced daily and an evening turndown. The hotel food is also highly recommended. We did the wine tasting and it was well done. This was family trip with a 1 and 2 year old and honestly Santorini and Vedema turned out to be more fabulous than we had hoped!

Title: Serious privacy breach, dismissive management, a property well past its prime, and a shocking failure of Marriott standards Stay Dates - 26 to 31 August 2025 My family and I are Marriott Ambassador Elite members who consistently travel over 100 nights a year and spend significant amounts with Marriott. Vedema was one of the most disappointing Luxury Collection stays we’ve had, and it wasn’t because of Santorini—it was because of the hotel’s condition and the way management handled our stay from the very beginning. The property has aging units that are long overdue for renovation. The first suite (which we booked) we were placed in had a moldy-smelling AC unit, visible sand and dust on the floors, and even broken glass left on the floor. Before anything else went wrong, I met with the General Manager to address these issues and he said he’d address it in the coming days (not immediately). Even at that point he reeked of cigarette smoke, something I’d never expect from a leader of a so-called luxury property. Then came a much more serious problem: a staff member entered our villa without knocking. He rang the doorbell once and immediately walked in while my wife was asleep and unclothed, with our toddler beside her. A complete violation of privacy and basic guest safety. Instead of handling the situation with care, the hotel made it worse. Despite knowing how uncomfortable this made my wife, they sent the same employee back to our villa alone the next day to apologize in person—something we never asked for and did not want. I requested a modest gesture to acknowledge the severity of what happened—50,000 points or €200 off the bill. When I brought all of this to management’s attention, their focus shifted to explaining why we should feel grateful for the “upgrade” they gave us. The hotel was nowhere near full, and the GM openly admitted he was intentionally holding back the newly built private pool villas (1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom) “in case someone booked last minute.” That’s not a gesture of goodwill; that’s unsold inventory. Elite upgrades are a standard Ambassador benefit and not an acceptable substitute for accountability after a privacy breach. The contrast with our preceding stay in Oia made Vedema look even worse. Before arriving, we stayed at Canaves Epitome, a Hilton-affiliated property in Oia. We are Hilton Diamond members but spend far fewer nights and far less money with Hilton. Canaves Epitome hotel was near 100% capacity during our stay, yet they upgraded us to a beautiful two-bedroom private pool villa with a caldera view and treated us exceptionally well from start to finish. That’s what true luxury hospitality looks like. Vedema has some units that look nice in photos, and the two bedroom pool villa we finally ended up in was a pleasant space. But luxury isn’t defined only by architecture. It’s defined by professionalism, responsiveness, and respect for guest safety. Vedema failed on all three. For anyone considering this property: be aware that the rooms can feel old and neglected, service is inconsistent, and management seems more focused on protecting revenue than protecting guests. This was not the experience we expect from the Luxury Collection or from Marriott. I don't normally write reviews. I attempted multiple times to resolve my issues at the lowest levels possible within the hotel then directly with my Personal Ambassador. Since I didn't receive a sufficient response in my opinion, I'm posting this review for other potential guests to consider.

Vedema is a true Greek dream. Imagine waking up in a Santorini casita, surrounded by peace, beauty, and elegance — yet only a 20-minute drive away from the bustling towns. This is the Santorini experience without the crowds, and it feels absolutely perfect.||One of my favorite details? The adults-only pool. A thoughtful touch for those who crave tranquility — and the fact that Vedema is pet-friendly made it even more special. Your dog is welcome to rest by the pool, sharing in the luxury lifestyle.||The rooms are stunning. Casita-style suites filled with character, and the Olympian Villas — grand, perfectly decorated, and spotless. It’s luxury with authenticity.||Food was an experience in itself. Every bite, from breakfast to lunch to dinner at Alati, captured Greek flavors in a refined way. The drinks menu was wide and creative — a little on the pricey side, but beautifully crafted.||And then there’s the service. Sam deserves a special mention for his warmth and genuine hospitality, and the management team for all the thoughtful details that made my stay feel unique.||Vedema is more than a resort; it’s a story of Greek luxury done right. I couldn’t be happier to welcome them into the Book the Room community. Absolutely Book the Room approved. For more reviews and pictures visit my IG profile book the room

Vedema offers a luxury escape in the heart of the small Greek town of Megalochori with its 400 year old cave restaurant (Alati) and some of the best volcanic wines we tasted on the island. Choosing this resort was the perfect way to end our first parents-only getaway. Megalochori’s quiet streets, local vibes, and wonderful people made our stay feel truly relaxing after the busy days in Oia. A special thanks to Meridona and Aris for the warm welcome and hospitality. We hope to return in the future! :)

During our Greek vacations, we went to Santorini and enjoyed a 4-night stay at the Vedema Luxury Collection Resort.||The resort is beautifully landscaped and features two pools, a Jacuzzi, SPA, Sauna, and 3 restaurants. We took advantage of a 10% discount on dinner at the restaurant on the first night and enjoyed a first for the resort, a great Lobster night menu with wine pairing in the 400 years old cave. Breakfast was served at the pool restaurant, also the resort provides paid transportation to visit the island.||The staff consistently demonstrated attentiveness, professionalism, and friendliness, ensuring an extraordinary stay.||The quite town of Megalochori offers has several restaurants and shops around the resort providing a pleasant contrast to the crowds in Fira and Oia.

Outstanding from the moment we arrived. ||All the staff were attentive and very very helpful. Clearing trying to make your stay as comfortable as possible. ||Accommodation perfect. Big light, airy room with a spacious balcony for enjoying the sun.||We attended the hotels wine tasting which was fabulous, some interesting wines and a very knowledgeable host.||We had a slight hic up with taxis and delays but the staff were quick to sort and offered a complimentary trip due to the long wait in the sun. This was a kind gesture. ||Sadly my husband lost his prescription glasses and the hotel did all they could to help find them - particular the taxi driver employed by the hotel he went above and beyond. We didn’t find them 😔 ||We would definitely return to this hotel. If visiting Santorini avoid staying in the busy Tira and Oia (definitely worth visiting though) and stay here - small village but idyllic with some great authentic Greek restaurants in the square. ||Very happy to give this hotel ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
