Velasquez and Van Wezel

Always fabulous. Great coffee, lovely staff, enjoyable snacks, especially the banana bread. They are in the process of extending the interior just in time for the weather change. Excellent outside space for when it is sunny, and just enough coverage space for when it is a little less inviting but too warm to sit in.

They have a nice coffee bean but they don't know how to handle the machine and it is probably cleaned badly. Coffee tastes horrible. They have poor customer service too. Went there for lunch and order to stay in but I have been served in a paper bag and take away cup. Other customers were left sitting inside eating their own nuts like animals while I was eating my lunch on a stoole. Really messy when not even busy.

The best coffee in town…possibly even North London! Would be five star but occasionally service can be slow despite numerous staff members. Need an extra machine?

Nice coffee but not to my taste. Milk was a little too watery in texture and the temperature was too hot for me personally. Friendly staff.

On the plus: friendly service, nice almond croissant and pretty decor. Things to consider: the espresso leaves a very strong acidic, sour aftertaste. Not sure what variety you are using but not a pleasant double espresso for my palate. Also the pain au chocolate was substandard, maybe look at your suppler.

Alright cappuccino but their espresso was a little sour and hard to drink. The brownie they serve is amazing but they don't really have much of a variety in terms of fresh and healthy savoury options which is a bit of a shame. Their staff was lovely, however.

Great batch brew & service one of the only place in crouch end to get consistently great coffee.

I’ve been meaning to review this place for a long time but somehow never got round to it. Velasquez and Van Wenzel is an absolute gem of a cafe, delivering exceptional and incredibly-consistent drinks, plus a small but high-quality selection of cakes, snacks and brunch/lunch options. They also sell high-quality beans to go, including Square Mile staples and some unusual guest options I’ve not seen in other London cafes. It’s genuinely my favourite cafe in London and substantially lifted the quality of the coffee scene in Crouch End when it opened a few years ago. The owners and staff put thoughtfulness and quality into everything. They’re always friendly and helpful, and it’s been so great to see the cafe go (seemingly) from strength to strength, even through the pandemic. Such a great part of our community. Thank you!
