Veldheer Tulip Gardens

These tulip gardens are absolutely beautiful! I am so glad we visited here this past May. It was the perfect way to get the tulip festival experience without having the deal with the crowds of locations directly in downtown Holland. There was barely any wait at 10:30 am on a Saturday. The gardens feature some beautiful photo opportunities and very nice gift shops with beautiful work of some local artists. The gardens also provide a pamphlet that tells the tulip type of EVERY chunk of tulips in the entire garden - I thought this was so impressive! Definitely worth the visit.

We recently visited Veldheer Tulip Gardens in Holland, and it was truly an unforgettable experience for me and my family. The moment we stepped onto the farm, we were surrounded by a sea of vibrant colors—endless rows of tulips in every shade you could imagine. It felt like walking through a postcard! The gardens were beautifully maintained, and it was clear how much care and effort goes into creating such a magical space. My kids were amazed by the variety of tulips, and we all enjoyed strolling through the fields, taking in the fresh air and scenic views. What made the visit even more special was how peaceful and welcoming everything felt. Despite the crowds, it never felt overwhelming. There were plenty of photo spots, and we captured so many beautiful family moments. If you’re looking for a perfect spring getaway or just a peaceful place to enjoy nature’s beauty, Veldheer Tulip Gardens is the place to go. It was a joyful, colorful, and truly memorable outing. We absolutely loved the experience and would recommend it to anyone visiting Holland during tulip season!

Veldheer Tulip Gardens is absolutely breathtaking! Rows and rows of vibrant tulips in every color you can imagine — it felt like walking through a living rainbow. The gardens are well-kept, peaceful, and perfect for photos. The staff were friendly and helpful, making the experience even better. I loved seeing so many rare varieties too! It’s clear they put a lot of care into the gardens. If you're visiting Holland during tulip season, this is a must-see spot. I can't wait to come back next year.

The tulips are gorgeous with many varieties I haven’t seen. There’s also a great generational family-owned business charm to this farm. They’re set up in a way to educate on tulip varieties by providing a “guidebook” that outlines different varieties along with markers in the field so you can identify any you’d like to purchase. I loved visiting and I’m excited for my bulbs to come this Fall. The only thing I felt could be expanded on is showcasing and selling more bulb mixes. They had a few multi-color/variety patches but I’d love to see more!

We were visiting Holland during Tulip Time and found this place. Although a bit pricey, I do feel like you get to see a lot of unique varieties. Tons of opportunities for great photos. There are a few chairs throughout if you need to take a break or just to sit and enjoy the flowers. Went with a 3.5yo and 1yo, and lots of areas to run up and down the rows. The workers were kind and helpful. We ordered some bulbs for this fall. Excited to get some of these beauties at home too!

$17 to walk around to see tulips is too much. Charging $10 is plenty. They are pretty. And there are non working wood windmills to take pics of. But if you just want to see flowers just walk around downtown - you will see the same colors for free

Tulips were stunning, but the rest of the gardens and structures were run down. It needs a lot of work. It was difficult for my 79 year old mother to use her walker around many areas of the gardens due to deep ruts in the walkways.

Such a lovely place to visit with your family! Tulips were beautiful, they didn't try to charge me more just because I have lots of kids, and the pottery/shoe museum was interesting. With elementary aged children, we spent close to three hours here total.

I know it's crazy that I grew up in Holland and never have been here. All it takes is a friend coming into town to visit and me showing them around, and this was the first stop. We came Saturday morning on the start of Tulip Time and they opened up an hour earlier at 8am, which worked out perfectly as we arrived at about 8:30am and stayed for a couple of hours. We saw so many different types of tulips between the speckles, the fuzzy trimmed, and other shapes. The variety of colors is spectacular. It's amazing to think that they have over 5 million tulips. I can't imagine how long this takes and the number of people planting. I love that you can order these tulips and that they can ship them to you in the fall for you to plant and have them blossom in the spring. The gift shop also offers other types of flower buds beyond tulips. I like that they also have the delft and wooden shoe factory here as well. They should definitely consider an establishment here, like a Dutch cafe, diner, or bakery. Even if they had a rotating food truck that would be nice.

Loved our visit to the tulip farm. $15 admission to see a beautiful array of many varieties of tulips and daffodils. Wander the many rows of perfect blooms as long as you like. Each group of spring flowers is numbered and you are given a booklet to mark ones you want to order for fall planting and they are mailed to you. The store has tons of perennials for spring planting for sale. Parking is a nightmare during the tulip festival

It is a little difficult to walk the many acres if your mobility is limited. I'm on a walker and have to limit how far I can go. But even so, I would never miss this yearly trip over.

What a beautiful place! We got to visit during tulip time! Over 800+ varieties of tulips! I want to come back every year!

Updating my review from last year after our visit today. I love tulips, and this is absolutely the best place for tulips, whether you are purchasing bulbs to plant at home or just visiting to view the hundreds of tulip varieties. Everyone here is so knowledgeable about tulips and other flowers and plants. They provide excellent recommendations and helpful instructions. I learned so much after my visit last year, and even more this year. All of the bulbs I purchased here last year did fantastic. They were shipped to me in late October and I planted them in November. They came up in early spring, and were beautiful. I returned this year during the Tulip Festival and walked through all the rows of tulips here. Each variety is labeled so you can easily locate it in the catalog. I made notes as I walked through so I would remember which varieties to order, because after viewing literally hundreds of tulip beds it is easy to get overwhelmed. Customer service is excellent, all of our questions were answered. Highly, highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to order tulip bulbs, learn about tulips, or just simply enjoy a day of walking around enjoying acres of beautiful flowers. Inside the building you will find many other bulbs and plants available, as well as other garden items. There is a gift shop too, with everything from custom wooden shoes to collectible glassware. There is also an art studio with beautiful paintings to enjoy and purchase.

5 millions tulips every year! Impressive! You just have to come to see it! Entry 15$. Very reasonable.

I was in the market for some tulip bulbs and wanted a wide variety. After stopping by the local farmers market in Holland, I was referred to Veldheer's. Upon arrival, it seemed that one building was completely closed, but the other was open. When we went in, it was clear this place was legit. It wasn't super clean or fancy (that gives it legitimacy to me = farmers!). The gentleman that greeted us was really helpful and let me know about some rarer varieties / things I may have not seen before. Sadly, not everything was in stock (about 50%), but that did help me narrow down my choices (still over 100 different tulips). They offer a discount with bulk purchases (31+, 100+) which is nice. I didn't even remember that I'd seen this sign until after I'd checked out and left. Darn! That day at least, they were offering free gladiolas to advertise their upcoming cut fresh flower line starting next spring I believe. So, although I didn't remember to buy that 31st bulb, I did take home 10 gladiolas! I have a brochure now to mail order more bulbs if needed. I'm excited to see how these look in the spring! Also, they have dinner plate sized yellow dahlias out front. They're a sight to see!

Advertisement states canals, waterwheel and bison. Canals are dry, waterwheel not turning, NO bison. Blond haired girl behind the counter in garden shop building (when exiting the tour, on the left...well she was not happy that we interrupted her personal call. I stated the above complaints, and she said 2 bison on property but don't always show up. We looked that property over and there is NO bison. Electric fence that surrounds that pasture is defunct. I do not like being lied to...and this place should NOT keep people like her employed, nor should they false advertise. We walked away as I told her, "I will advertise for you", and she said "go for it", with a raised voice. We did get $30 back from man in entrance booth. He was very nice and said "yeah, don't blame you for wanting refund". Think of all of these other people that come here to see what is advertised, and walk away being screwed. Glad we stood up for ourselves and will NEVER visit this dilapidated sideshow again.

I follow their Facebook page and saw a post about ordering tickets before Tulip Time and I'm so glad I did. My tickets arrived in the mail with a nice hand written note. We arrived about an hour after opening on a Sunday. There was still ample parking and no line yet. We wandered the rows and rows of tulips. It didn't feel crowded because there's so much space and so many tulips to admire. I took a lot of pictures so I could order some bulbs. Each section is numbered and we were given a booklet that identified the tulip. We exited through the garden center where you could order tulip bulbs. We also wandered the gift shop where there are several perennials for sale. I bought a few along with some gladiolus bulbs. My gladiolus are currently several inches tall. Veldheer's is a great option for tulip viewing, bulb buying, and photo opportunities.

We visited a week before Tulip Festival this year, which was also a late-blooming year, so we didn't have nearly the diversity of tulips you would normally have. They apologized to us for the lack of flowers and charged us less than normal to go out into the fields. Maybe 20-25% of the flowers were up, which meant almost a million tulips? I can imagine it's insane during the peak bloom, but we found it incredibly beautiful even at this early stage. Staff was super nice and talked to us at length about tulips inside the shop, where they have hundreds of varieties to purchase. Absolutely would return again the next time we make it out this way!

DO NOT GO HERE WHEN IT IS NOT TULIP SEASON! I called ahead and asked if they had flowers even though it wasn't Tulip season and the lady on the phone told me they did in fact have flowers in bloom. So we drove 40 minutes from our campsite to find ZERO flowers. No clue why that lady told me that. We walked into a minimally stocked garden center. It was a ghost town. It was so weird. We went into the other building to find another ghost town. They had a lot of breakable Knick knacks. Nothing to write home about. They also had a big selection of wooden shoes. I wasn't in the market for wooden shoes. We left and drove another 40 minutes back to our campsite. What a waste of precious time.

As part of our "explore Holland, MI" trip with our daughter in law's parents, we felt a strong urge to find some typically touristy things to browse and possibly buy. Based on local recommendations and advertising papers for Holland we decided that a stop at Veldheer's was in order. They are located away from the downtown area of Holland, Michigan, and they have plenty of parking available; they even accommodate groups arriving on buses. What they have that you will find interesting is a Tulip Farm (in case you haven't already seen enough tulips), a Delft factory (if you don't know, you probably don't need to know...or ask Mr. Google), and a Wooden Shoe factory, among many other things to see and buy. What caught my interest was the room where they were making wooden shoes with some in process and various stages of completion along with the tools they use to make them, all visible through the glass partition. The Delft items also appeared to be of good quality (we have some Delft nicknacks that we bought when we were in real Holland) and there was a good assortment to chose from. The prices seemed fairly reasonable to me as well. Veldneer's definitely is worth a stop even if all you do is browse. But some things may be a little hard to resist.

An awesome tulip farm. After you see the pictures I posted you will think "these are not tulips" but they are! I'm sure there are more than a thousand different tulips. Absolutely beautiful. Some of the tulips actually look like carnations and other flowers, but they are tulips! You can order bulbs and they will send them to you in November. You can purchase bulbs and take them with you. However, I think they are last years bulbs. I'm not sure though. These tulips are so beautiful you just can't imagine how beautiful they are. I did post several pictures that may wet your appetite (not literally) to influence you to go see these impressive array of tulips.

I enjoyed and love it. I have neve seen so many kinds of tulips in my life! Tulips are so colorful and pretty. It was the peak bloom time. It was not very crowded maybe because it's Sunday. It was worth to drive 2.5 hours from Chicago.

Tulip Time had been on my bucket list for a while, and I spent some time researching and debating which area to go to. I had some doubt's with the negative reviews here, but I am glad we ended up coming here. As mentioned admission is $10 but you can spend several hours perusing and photographing the flowers and walking around the stores. I came on a sunny but windy Sunday, the second day of the Tulip Time festival. They had extended hours for the festival weekend, and with the weather close to ideal (besides the wind blowing dirt/dust all over), the place was hopping with visitors. I was able to get decent closeups of the tulips but any wider shots of multiple rows were impossible to get without having strangers in the picture. Onto the actual tulips... I paid $10 to see tulips, and I got to see tulips. I am not sure why anyone would expect more from a tulip garden. There were more varieties of tulips than I had ever known even existed! There were tulips of all shapes, sizes, and colors. We were there a little before the peak color, but many of the rows were already in full bloom. They were really beautiful, and I like how the booklet makes it easy to identify what tulips you are looking at. They also have an array of daffodils and hyacinths and a few picturesque flowering trees. They have a few windmills scattered around, a water mill, and bison near the back of the farms. The store area has plenty of Holland souvenirs (many made in Holland!) and Holland goodies in addition to the variety of bulbs. They had some sandwiches for sale and some coffee next to some of the cookie samples. We walked out with a few magnets and some windmill cookies (one of the staff suggested the reddish package). Lastly the Delftware/wooden clog store, a really interesting store, some of the goods were the same as the bulb store. You can try the clogs on, watch as they hand paint the delftware, and watch them carve the wooden shoes. If you buy any of the wooden shoes, they will woodburn your name for free!

I visited with several family members. We were all excited to buy some bulbs and plant some beautiful tulips in our own gardens. We bought over 100 bulbs all together and planted them in our 5 gardens. I don't think 1 bulb came up. Save your money.

Don't order through them. I ordered bulbs from them in May, 2021. One variety they said they could not get and that I would get a refund. One year later after phone calls, emails and leaving messages, I still have not received my refund.

Very disappointed. Our visit was during the time of Covid. I had checked out their Facebook page a few days earlier and saw they were open and posted about harvesting the bulbs and there was even a video showing what bulbs were in stock. We planned our visit based on what was posted for their open hours. We drove up on a Thursday and arrived before they opened as we had other plans for the day. Waited until they opened and first went into what must be their gift shop and the two workers told us the bulbs were in the garden center but not sure what they had available since they just started picking. We went next door and found the Garden Center door locked and lights off. By 10:15 Garden center was still not open. As this was the last day of our vacation and we were on a time schedule, we left. That was almost two hours out of our day wasted and for nothing as we had to drive North from where we were staying to only turn around and drive back to head home.

Not an honest clerk & mgr. They're late with the order & telling us different shipping dates. Then when are told that to cancel they concoct a cancellation fee that was never exposed to or discussed (not part of the actual sale material agreed to). Find them disingenuous, shady, & dishonest. Would recommend not spending any money with them.

I'm sure in April when the tulips are blooming, this place is beautiful. I'm giving three stars because it truly is a wooden shoe factory, and if the shoemaker had been in the day of our visit, we could have watched them actually make wooden shoes. They were not, however, sigh. If it was not for the wooden shoe uniqueness, this would have been a two star stop. This place is NOT fancy at all. I was expecting a charming little tourist village destination with a cute gift shop, and what we found was a big open metal building with a few staff and multiple displays of souvenirs for sale. Yes, we did get to try on wooden shoes in that area. For me, they hit me all wrong and I did not take home a pair. Hubby's feet felt fine so we did buy those, because when else will that ever happen? We also got a cute refrigerator magnet and Dutch inspired salt and pepper shakers. Our visit was in very late June and it was unseasonably hot for the area... so while others might go wander the gardens, that didn't happen. Holland is a cute town, but the attractions are not all grouped together, and this one is out of town where you feel like you're in the country. It's also so weird to us on their bypass, even at a traffic light, you cannot turn left. You have to turn right and then do a U-turn, no matter what. Makes no sense to me, but when in Rome... or Holland...

Skip the Tulip Time Festival and visit Velheer's instead! Veldheer Tulip Garden is a truly authentic Dutch experience. The fields of tulips are a sight to see and one you will only experience at Veldheer. My husband and I and our twin 8 year old boys visited Holland for the Tulip Time Festival. I had heard great things about it and was really looking forward to it. I have to say the first day I was quite disappointed. We made the pilgrimage out to Windmill Island Gardens (just skip it until the crowds have died down.) Thankfully, we discovered Veldheer. This was the experience I was looking for! Looking out over a sea of tulips is awesome. You can leisurely stroll the gardens. If you decide that you would like some of these beauties in your own garden it is easy as can be to order exactly what you want and have them shipped to you. NONE of this happens in the center of town or at Windmill Island Gardens. They also have a huge gift store with many dutch items. The staff are all friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. This is a MUST SEE on your itinerary!

So half of the tulips are dead right now but this place still has no shame in charging you $10. No other attraction, just a field of tulips. The charge is a bit too high, even if all the flowers were alive. Flowers will die for various reasons and that is fine and expected, but that is when you greatly reduce or stop charging admission. That is the issue. Stop by the wooden shoe factory and then move on to Windmill Island Gardens, where they have managed to keep all of their tulips alive and there is more to see.

Hate to say it, but even this flower frolicking phene was less-than-impressed at a $10 per pop Tulip farm. I love flowers, but $10? You know what bothered me more than the $10 after it was all said and done? The freakishly-blue dyed water pouring out of the fountains. It threw me off the whole time I was there and took away from the natural charm I was hoping to find. I had imagined the flowers to be the central focus, but it seemed that Veldheer's was set on directing traffic to a building filled with knicknacks. On a positive note, the wooden shoe workshop was very interesting. The shoemaker was eager to talk with visitors and share about the history of Dutch wooden shoes. **I had hoped they would be selling fresh cut bouquets. Thought for the future?

Okay, I was hesitant to pay the $10 for this, but this is a magnificent display. If tulips aren't really your thing though, there are some places around town to see tulips for free (i.e. tulip lane and the downtown area as well as Window by the Water -- significantly smaller, but still something you don't see everyday). Back to the farm, I really liked walking through various tulip beds, especially how every time you turned you'd see a different few colors. It was nice to see the various combinations. I never knew there were so many varieties! When we went into the gardens, it reminded me of Ikea because they give you a booklet and a mini-pencil to circle the colors you want to order (each bed has a number). I thought it was kind of foolish, but in the end it was nice as there were a few we really wanted to grow at home. It was also nice to see the wooden shoe shop, including all the old machinery from Europe. You don't see that every day. No, wood and machines aren't really my thing, but one of the members in our group really enjoyed that...and I have to admit it was rather unique. PS Brittany, I didn't get the blue fountain either...

Beautiful tulip farms, friendly staffs, well organized facilities. Anyone would love this place. As of this year [2010], admission fee for adult is $8 and half for kid. You'll get to see many kinds of Tulips and windmills : ) After finish touring the farm, you'll get a chance to buy knickknacks and even Tulips and take them back home.

We visited for Tulip Time festival. One of the best experiences ever. We arrive at 755am, they opened at 8am. After a 10 hour drive, we were ecstatic with the find. Tulips are my favorite flowers, so I was in heaven. $10/person to get in. We were the first people of the day. Only ones there for around 30 minutes. The tour buses started rolling in after that. Go very early. Well worth it to me.

I've been here twice in the last three years - I'd give it 5 stars for the time I visited in 2010 and 3 stars from this year. Veldheers farm is a couple of miles down the road from downtown Holland. It's a really beautiful place, regardless if you are a tulip lover or not. I was in complete awe the first time I came here because there were just rows and rows and rows of gorgeous tulips with all kinds of colors you can possibly imagine. I remember the weather being a bit chilly, so there were barely any people. This time around, I would say that only about 30-40% have bloomed and there were more people than actual tulips. I never have problems paying an entrance fee, especially when it comes to places with some kind of nature, or zoos to help the animals, however, I was really upset because there was barely anything to see. They should at least let us know ahead of time, or have some kind of sign up front, because there are other places that have tulips in the area where you don't need to pay any kind of money. Either way, it's still very nice to walk around and check out everything they offer. There is also a bison farm in the back, but all the bison's were too far away to get a good glimpse. In terms of tulips, they have a storefront where you can purchase any of the tulips at the farm. They have them divided by numbers, so it's easy to pick and remember what you like. They also have an AMAZING wooden shoe factory where they sell a bunch of adorable souvenirs all related to Holland and Dutch people. It's a MUST see!! Everything they sell in the store is made right there in the factory and you can watch them work through the glass. If anything, Veldheers is worth it just for this alone. It's probably going to be awhile until I make another visit, but I recommend coming here during the spring at least once. From Chicago, it's about a 2.5/3 hour drive if there is no traffic. There is def nothing like this in the city.

The only place, to buy wooden shoes, we got a tour of how they mold the shoe and the gentleman explained how the Dutch shoes are made, stations also here are molding and painting the many ceramic pieces you can buy. Here you can buy tulip and other flowering bulbs

Great place if tulips are at full bloom and weather is nice. It was not good when we visited on a cloudy day to see tulips which were past their best. They update tulips' conditions at Facebook every day during the season, so check it before you visit. I don't like that they have only portable toilets.

Some awesome semi-cheesy Dutch craziness outside Holland, MI. All the trinkets you can buy and then some, even actual wooden shoes. Lots of hand-painted ceramics, all made right on the premises. We got a great christmas tree and lots of other stuff. You can also get tons of great tulip bulbs, you start thinking you'll start another tulip craze to wreck the economy with or something. The grounds are nice to walk around in. A great way to spend an hour or so soaking up the local atmosphere after a trip to downtown Holland.

Our 1st stop on the second day of the tulip festival. I was excited to see fields and fields packed with beautiful colors. With the line and traffic to get in, you would think this is a top spot. Paid $25 for my family to enter. There are other perennials and flowering trees to view. Instead of fields and fields of "over 5 million" tulips, there are short rows of tulips. And some varieties are doubled up. It is nice that you can walk between the rows and view the many different varieties up close. As long as you can avoid the masses of people squatting down to get pictures. Good luck getting pics without strangers in them. Took approx. an hour to walk the rows. We did jot down the ones we liked, to order later. A good tip, is take a picture with the tulip number and tulips. You will not remember what they look like. The bison were out, but we did not visit them. This is a "working farm", so bathrooms were porta-potties and they are only on the outside of the entrance. The store is not great. I was hoping for some bison jerky and maybe local snacks. No such luck. They did offer some cookies and almond bread. Not really doable for a person with Celiac. Kinda flea marketish. The shoe shop next door wasn't terrible. Lots of glassware and wooden shoe making. I should have done more research before driving 3 hours to visit Holland for the day. It wasn't terrible, but I wouldn't visit this farm a second time.

$10 to go look at a bunch of tulips? Awful. Unless you really, really, really like tulips, avoid this place.

Took my girlfriend from Chattanooga, TN to Veldheer's and very dissatisfied and would encourage others not to visit. Checking smart phone it said that they were open until 6:00pm. After she travelled over ten hours and 650 miles, we arrived at Veldheer's at ten after five. Waited ten minutes for only attendant to check out a flower bulb sale, and she rudely said garden closed at 5:00pm. We told her that we travelled from Chattanooga TN, showed license and she did not care. All we wanted to do is pay the ten dollar per person fee, take a few pictures in the rain and be out of there by 5:45pm, she said no. Asked to see manger who happened to be owner, he said his name was Jim, said the same thing and he was very abusive with his language and did not give a damn about our travel from Chattanooga TN and told us to f--- off. Very sad display of customer service and being a decent human being.

Get out of the city when you can and head out to the Veldheer Tulip Gardens in Holland, Mi. Polite and helpful staff. Beautiful rows of calm. One of a kind landscape you won't forget.

We went during the last weekend of Tulip Time. If you are deciding between going to this farm or some of the other attractions (Dutch Village or Windmill Island) and don't have kids, this is the better choice. The gardens were beautiful. My husband took some really exceptional photos here. My dad enjoyed browsing the Delftware. We all are excited about the bulbs we ordered for fall. The bison were galloping around their fields and were entertaining to watch. It was raining the entire time, wasn't thrilled about porta potties being our only option. Other than that, two thumbs up.

Just got back! Tulips were in full bloom on April 15. Beautiful beds of tulips that will inspire you to plant them in the fall. Each year, I find another tulip color to add to my garden landscape. They have windmills and benches to sit on in order to enjoy the rows and rows of colored tulips. One reviewer was upset about the entrance fee. For the fee, you can stay as long as you want, wander the fields, take beautiful photographs of the flowers, etc. Staff is polite and helped me find one particular tulip color that I couldn't find. We walked through the fields and lo and behold it was there... just missed it. Regarding the tulip bulbs.... when they come up in the spring my neighbors come over to see the new ones I've chosen for that year. Note: they have summer bulbs and other things for sale in the spring. Bulbs are shipped in the fall for planting.

I have visited Veldheers throughout many years and it's been wonderful. However, the last few years something has happened there. Care has not been taken with the flower beds and in 2010 I was actually embarrassed when visiting. It was sloppy, empty beds, looked like half the tulip fields had not been planted, daily grooming was not done and it looked like it. The canals had dirty, stinky water - it was awful! Inside the barns the cashiers were sullen, unfriendly and a good system for checking out your purchases was not in evidence on the day I was there. I was disappointed. I would suggest they lower their price and hire some competent employees to cater to their visitors - many of whom come from long distances. I hope the next time I visit - they will show some true tulip culture going on.
