Yelp
Another kitchy wonderful place to sit on your saddle for awhile. My son and I spent a few days in the area for the Big Bend Ultras and struggled to find someplace open for breakfast on our way out of town on MLK, Jr's birthday. It was difficult to find someplace easy to get to, that was open and wasn't super crowded. I don't know if that was because it was a holiday, a Monday, or the off-season. After driving around and yelping for a while we chose Venga. The parking lot was pretty full, but with all the great reviews in Yelp, we thought this was our best bet.
And, oh boy was it! We took a menu off a stack when we walked in and took our place in line at the counter. Dont know if they typically have wait staff during vacation season, but it looked like the line was the place to be. My son ordered a smash burger (everything on their menu is served all day long) and I ordered a breakfast burrito.
We did have to wait about 30 minutes for our name to be called, but we weren't in a hurry (yet) so we filled our coffee mugs and grabbed a seat at a table. It was fun to look around the place, as there was a lot of art on the wall for sale by local artists, and of course some local Big Bend and Terlingua merch.
When our name was called, we hooked ourselves up with one of their unique hot sauces that were in squeeze bottles by the coffee station, grabbed our food, and dug in.
From the first bite - both of us got wide eyed and were like "Wow!" The size of the servings were generous but not so large that you couldn't finish in one sitting, and the taste was so unexpectedly wonderful considering you are in a small town in the middle of nowhere. It would compare to any 4-5 star joint in the big city. So good.
What else is there to say, but, hit this place up when you are in the area. There might be a wait, but for good food in the desert, what else would you expect?
