The Best Walking Tours in Venice (Updated 2025)

"If you've seen the main sights and want to get off the beaten path, Venice Tours runs a Hidden Venice tour that explores lesser-known areas—on this three-hour tour you'll navigate labyrinthine streets, see the former house of Marco Polo, and criss-cross canals over historic bridges; I’m a big fan because it gets you away from the crowds and into more local areas, and if you prefer to sit down they also offer a traditional gondola tour with an audio guide (tours from around 27 EUR)." - Matthew Kepnes

Our tour guide (Sara I believe), was fantastic! We did: “Doge’s Palace and St.Mark's Basilica: Private Skip-the-Line Guided Tour”. I got so nervous after booking it because of the mixed reviews, but wow it was probably our favorite thing from our trip! With our tour guide being a local, waving to many friends as we walked by and weaving in and out of places like she knew them like her back hand, it felt like a friend was showing us around while making history come to life. This was so worth it! They didn’t ask us for any reviews or anything, but it truly deserved it and I know that I would have benefitted from reading what tour was booked and people’s review. Thanks so much for a great tour!!

Booked St. Marks Basilica and Doge’s Palace tour (with the Bell Tower option) Our guide was the very knowledgeable, light hearted, and often numerous, Elena. She is very clearly proud of her city, its history, and her people, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. We learned a lot of things about these beautiful buildings, and their often bloody history… and does make you wonder why the Bridge of Sighs has become such an iconic tourist attraction, given its purpose… Overall, I’d highly recommend this company… and if you happen to have the pleasure of the tour being led by Elena, then you’ve got the added bonus! The Bell Tower was definitely worth doing too, and didn’t matter that this part of the tour was unguided, but extremely pleased that we had Skip the Queue passes! The views are sensational!

This was a very nice tour that included a shared gondola ride. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. The tour started with a vr video, followed by a walk through Venice with our guide, and lastly ended with a gondola ride through some of the canals in Venice. My wife and I really enjoyed it!

Here's a gondola route through Venice's canals and a brief historical explanation using virtual reality glasses. The virtual experience pleasantly surprised me by giving you a history of why gondolas were used in the past. Although the gondola ride was somewhat short, it provided a clear route without getting lost in Venice's canals.

Booked the historical centre 2 hour tour. After leaving 15 mins late (seemingly due to a mix up with the tour guides), the tour only lasted 1 hour and ten minutes. Very little historical information given on the tour and felt very rushed. The tour guide often walked well ahead of the group in order to keep the group on time for an optional add-on of a shared gondola ride at the end. The route was quite a nice walk, but the tour consists primarily of the guide telling you that squares are “beautiful” (I know, I can see), “fascinating” (though without any explanation of why) or “one of [the guide’s] favourites” (good for you). We told them that we’d not received the tour we’d paid for and they offered to take us to see something else to make up the extra time. We didn’t take them up on this as we were entirely bored by the bland tour. Walking tours can be great - we love them for the storytelling and connection. This has none of that and is typical of the sad, conveyor-belt touristic products so common in Venice and designed to extract the tourist € with minimal effort. Not worth the money, book a free tour and tip the tour guide the same amount.

I love being able to book tours with or without guides. This one was for skip the line tickets to The Doge Palace, Bell Tower and the Palace museum. We also received a nice tour guide booklet. We did the on our own and was able to walk at our own pace, stop and read what we needed.
