VENTURA
At 463 N. Palm Canyon Drive, the VENTURA storefront is subtle -- one might make the mistake of walking by it. Don't. To do so is to miss out on one of Palm Springs' finest. What lies inside is such a sophisticated collection of well priced treasure, I could barely tear myself away. Resources permitting, I'd gladly have walked out with a dozen items for myself and many, many more as gifts. The term "eclectic" really ought to be reserved for showrooms like Ventura, where Murano glass lamps, artful ceramics, end tables, a sleek red leather settee and other elegant midcentury furnishings are among the things you'll find. A glorious hibiscus shag rug hung on the wall -- a very good thing, as had it been on the floor I likely would have curled up on it. Julio is a delight - charming and mild-mannered with just a hint of a New York accent, he seriously knows his stuff. The next time you are in the desert, don't miss Ventura -- I can't wait to go back.
