Verana, Yelapa, near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Explore & Book

"After a 50-minute taxi ride from Puerto Vallarta, a 30-minute panga boat ride (with nothing to hold onto!) and an energetic hike up a steep hill, arriving at Verana is a challenge that comes with an instant reward. An enchanting collection of hand-made houses awaits, embedded in the lush, terraced jungle landscape, and accompanied by stunning views of the Bay of Banderas and the small town of Yelapa below. Created by Heinz Legler and his wife Veronique Lievre, a powerhouse design duo in the film industry, Verana started life as a truly offbeat boutique hotel. As Puerto Vallarta hit the map, it evolved into the type of place which attracts a faithful following of like-minded people: those with a love of beauty, intimacy and nature. You can book bird walks, whale watching and paradise picnics on a deserted beach - or just swing on a hillside hammock. But don't think you have to do without your creature comforts. With an open-air spa, a springwater pool, a candlelit restaurant and a yoga hut, this is a far cry from camping in the jungle. Highs Location, location, location: it's totally secluded and surrounded by greenery, with a carpet of blue sea below The price includes all meals and the adventurous Mexican fare is excellent Staff are handpicked from the surrounding areas, and are welcoming to a fault You can enjoy a blissful massage in the open-air spa while the hummingbirds and butterflies fly above you Fantastic for honeymooners and weddings (houses are very private!); the couples' starlit aromatherapy bath is sublime Lows Getting to Verana from Puerto Vallarta is convoluted and can be problematic if you land late in the day Steep hillsides and a rough 15-minute hike from the dock / beach are problematic for the less agile Chances are you'll wake early to birdsong and sunrise, but fresh coffee and biscuits will be waiting on your terrace We didn't see any scorpions, but we were warned to keep our shoes on at all times and not to leave clothes lying around There are no other eateries within reach if you want a change of scene - though we very much doubt you will" - Michelle McDermott

I typically don’t leave many reviews, but I couldn’t leave a review fast enough for this magical place. Verana is exceptional in every regard. My husband and I just spent 4 nights in the Tea House for our 10 year wedding anniversary. Every detail at this hotel is very clearly well thought out. From the coffee and incredible pastries dropped at your “house” when you wake, to the design details, the views, the wildlife, and the food. Every day we were constantly just dumbfounded by this place. Each bite of food had so many levels of flavor, and each cocktail made to perfection. This is truly a foodie paradise. Everyone that we encountered here was genuinely so kind and truly cared about your experience. Especially my girls at the Host desk! I wish more places like this existed. It gave us such a profound feeling of peace that I didn’t know existed. We will be back for sure, and I cannot wait until that day. Bravo Verana. You’re incredible.

My husband and I stayed in the Tea House at Verana for 7 nights for my birthday in April and it was nothing short of exceptional ! If you’re looking for a very chill, quiet, romantic hotel with tons of style and gorgeous surroundings- this is for you! I had been wanting to stay here for several years and my expectations going to Verana were high and they were met on every level. The food, cocktails, service, location, massages and the charming suites were all wonderful. I can’t wait to come back! Do yourself a favor- stay here!

I am simply speechless. My mind completely emptied for a week. Both of my parents died in the past year and I haven't known how to feel. Verana took care of me with out me knowing I was being taken care of. It was as if the staff wasn't there, you just woke up and were taken care of. My idea of luxury is to be left alone. Coffee in the bird cage every morning, every meal there, your room is always clean, and the votive candles each night to welcome you to bed. Verana is like a gift from God. Thank you Louisa and Oswaldo and everyone, you helped me in my grieving process and you didn't know it. I can't wait to come back. FIVE STARS!

If you're looking for a place to truly relax, this is THE place. Verana is the perfect combination of lush grounds+views, delicious fresh food, onsite poolside library, friendly staff, excellent but subtle service, privacy. We felt so cared for--morning coffee service, relaxed mealtimes, excursions. The best ceviche we've ever eaten using the fish we caught that morning. Rarely have I thought to return to a place, but Verana is that special. All the stars!

Verana is a unique and extraordinary place. We want a vacation focused on nothing but relaxation, and Verana delivered. It was easy to get to the resort: they helped us arrange a car service from PVF airport to the boat, and the boat transfer was right on time. We barely left the resort the whole week, and only left to hike to the waterfalls.||The staff were terrific and we loved the atmosphere. Even the wildlife was charming. ||We went in late July. While it was rainy season and rained a bit every day, there was still plenty of sunshine and ample time to enjoy the water and the pool. Food and drink was delicious. ||Verana probably isn't for everyone. It's mostly open air. There are crabs and critters (you're in the jungle). It's steep and not an ideal spot for people with accessibility concerns. Definitely read the site thoroughly before booking and make sure you understand that this is not a Marriott. This is a romantic spot for relaxing and unplugging.||We loved it and would definitely return.

Idyllic setting, newborn whales exhaling, sea turtles mating, bay accessible only by water, small cluster of suites, mostly open to and integrated with the sierra madre rainforest, charming staff, all so private too. The hotel took us by boat from a bay only half an hour south of PV - hard to imagine somewhere more different. The climb up from the boat and even the getting in and off the boat are not for the faint hearted, but this isn’t a trip for anyone with mobility issues. Nice playlist too of music with a definite European touch.

Words nor photos do Verana justice. It is nothing short of perfect paradise. I just returned from a week with friends to celebrate my 50th birthday. From the early morning coffee delivery to the candlelit turndown service, the service and amenities are outstanding. I did five morning yoga classes overlooking the ocean, two amazing massages, and a salsa cooking class, which were all A+. The food was excellent. Fresh fish and seafood prepared beautifully using fresh local ingredients. It is such a well-operated establishment. The attention to detail perfect. The staff were wonderful (thank you Juju, Lise, Sergio, Ossie, Paula, Aurea, and Suzette!!). I will be back!

Absolutely incredible team at Verana. I photographed a wedding there last night and was blown away by the beauty and hospitality of the people here. Juju, Justin, Federico, and Chantal were ANGELS. Literally the sweetest people who were so kind and wonderful. The beauty of this place is unreal and worth the trek up. The food was incredible, each little house was gorgeous, and the pool was unreal. Thank you all so much for everything. I hope to see you back here again! I hope you all know how special and wonderful you are.
