A Local’s Guide to Antwerp, Belgium

"And the Verbeke Foundation, a 30-minute car ride from the city, is a bizarre private museum that houses exceptional artworks. It has quite a morbid atmosphere but it’s truly unique."

You won‘t believe the amount and variety of stuff at this place. Sometimes it feels like a 300 year-old cabinet of curiosities, sometimes like an experimental garden for budding architects. Sculpture is mixed with ginormous pieces of technological scrap, including the biggest helicopter I‘ve ever seen. In between there are cages with wonderfully colourful tropical birds, singing their hearts out. Bits of art which you will love and naturally some that you will hate. If you visit, bring enough time with you because there are so many crazy corners to explore.

Nice place to visit. It can take hours to explore the whole territory but it definitely worths it. Funny and unusual thing about the place - you can stay overnight in sculpture of anus 🙈

Lots of cool art to see here. You'll need a few hours to explore the huge terrain.

It’s a really nice museum! It’s more like a collection that the owner allow the public to see it. It’s a nice place to spend time on afternoon with your family, friends or classmates. The exterior is full of architecture/ spatial design object and installation. The food from the bar is good and cheap.

Private art museum, large outside and inside areas. Very broad spectrum of exhibits, a bit eclectic but perfectly lovable. Friendly staff. Card payment only at the ticket office - the café accepts cash, if you want to pay w/ card at the café, they send you to the ticket office to pay there. We spent a Friday afternoon both inside and outside and liked it a lot 🤩 Some areas outside could use a bit more gardening and some exhibits were showing slight signs of decay, not sure if a funding issue (post corona...) or part of the concept? As we were passing through, we spent the night in a hotel in Hulst (NL) nearby, I can highly recommend the combination.

Amazing place which I keep on visiting. It's like reading a good book, the story stays with you, for a very long time. A place where beginning and known artists find their place. People like Geert and Carla should be cherished for the love they put in this foundation. Loving every bit of it.

Very happy I stopped over to visit this amazing museum. Mixture of indoor and outdoor pieces of art/collection. The founder was obviously a eclectic person, there are all sorts of pieces at this museum, it's had to really explain. I will recommend anyone with an open-mind, curious and art lovers to definitely visit. The site is more than 12+ acres so I'll recommend you come prepared and take your time, café on-site to keep you refreshed.

Simply amazing experience. Its like having a bunch of twinkytwonky friends who occasionally take acid and go around to play with their powertools and fractalistic brains on an 11 hectares of playground. The difference is that you can, or not, partake and just enjoy all the beautiful creations. Kid friendly. It's great to wonder around and meet and talk to people. Get inspired. I'm sure if used as an event space you would be amazed by its potential. A many great things to say about this place but you'll have to discover yourself. Why not get a little lost for a change. 😉 Always welcome for further tips 'n tricks.

Yelp
Amazing open air art museum! A private collection spread over a huge field. And a nice coffee/bar inside. Take Time an afternoon to come visit (kids friendly) the impressive structures and installations spread all over the foundation.
