A Local’s Guide to Antwerp, Belgium

"And the Verbeke Foundation, a 30-minute car ride from the city, is a bizarre private museum that houses exceptional artworks. It has quite a morbid atmosphere but it’s truly unique."

This place is weird as hell, and I mean that in the best possible way. I think it's one of those places that either clicks immediately or it doesn't at all and you hate it. For me it was definitely the former. Highlight for me was definitely the Mi-26 helicopter. My wife was a big fan of the taxidermy as well which, honestly the collection of that is extremely impressive and worth a visit on its own. Would definitely come back here and explore more as I didn't get a chance to see everything outside.

SPECTACULAR!!! Anyone serious/curious about art - especially boundary-pushing, challenging work that employs unusual materials and methods MUST visit Verbeke. And if you're lucky, as I was, you might also meet Geert Verbeke, the founder and genius behind this foundation. A few tips if you do decide to visit and you're coming from Antwerp and do not have a car: book two Uber Reserves (one to get you there and one for the return trip). It's what I ended up doing and it worked like a charm and made the whole journey easy. Also, based on the weather plan to do the outdoors or indoors first to reflect if it might rain or not. I have had a wonderful two weeks in Antwerp visiting museums, Axel Vervoordt's gallery in the Wijnegem, the Middelheim Sculpture Park - all superb but the Verbeke experience is top of the charts for me.

You won‘t believe the amount and variety of stuff at this place. Sometimes it feels like a 300 year-old cabinet of curiosities, sometimes like an experimental garden for budding architects. Sculpture is mixed with ginormous pieces of technological scrap, including the biggest helicopter I‘ve ever seen. In between there are cages with wonderfully colourful tropical birds, singing their hearts out. Bits of art which you will love and naturally some that you will hate. If you visit, bring enough time with you because there are so many crazy corners to explore.

Really Amazing museum with great art pieces. Pannek works were showing when I visited. Also there are some artworks that are high on ethical choices but also quite interesting. Especially because my friend explained how the museum came to be and it makes sense of why there are weird collections. Definitely a whole day session or more to view the full museum.

Nice place to visit. It can take hours to explore the whole territory but it definitely worths it. Funny and unusual thing about the place - you can stay overnight in sculpture of anus 🙈

One of the museums where you can find so many biodiversity collection with the art made of strange things especially highway and road communication stuff. Worth spending money and if you are a student, you can get 3 euro discount.

oh my god words can not describe how much i loved it here. We came right at opening time on sunday so it wasnt busy. The man behind the registery knew so much info and when we bought post catds he told us the back story of the art that was on it. So if u get the chance to talk to him id really reccomend it! I would reccomend to take a full day off to walk around as the inside is big, but the gardens are even bigger. There are some interactive art projects to! I could keep going about the man at the registery being awesome and the art to, but i will stop here. I really reccomend it!

Yelp
Amazing open air art museum! A private collection spread over a huge field. And a nice coffee/bar inside. Take Time an afternoon to come visit (kids friendly) the impressive structures and installations spread all over the foundation.
