Verdo Turkish BBQ

I ordered the mixed kebab and the food was absolutely delicious. The meat was flavored with spices that made the taste wonderful. The starters were also excellent, and as is typical for Turkish restaurants, they offered complimentary tea. I really enjoyed the food and the staff were friendly. This will be my go to restaurant if I want grilled food and I definitely recommend going there.

My girlfriend and I were walking somewhere else to get dinner but could smell how delicious it was from the corner of Newington and Salisbury. We decided to stop by and check the menu, but by the time we were across the street it was clear we were staying for dinner. We split humus and Adana. The first real meal I have had in ages. I think I had given up on what bright delicious flavors, its like seeing color for the first time. I was so excited for it my girlfriend said it was like I was discovering food for the first time ever. Bread right on the grill! The mushrooms! The sumac!! The grilled onions. The balance of savory, salty, sweet, acidic, umami: It was all so incredible If I start listing what was good about it, I would run out of room.

On vacation in Edinburgh l talked my wife into trying something different. Turkish food. I don’t know how authentic it was, but I will tell you it was absolutely delicious. One of the best meals I’ve ever had. One little problem, my wife does not like trying different types of food and does not like anything spicy. Somehow the food came out a little spicier than She would’ve liked. The owner was so accommodating and so kind. He took her food away took it off the bill and offered her something else. He brought her a plate of rice, some tzatziki sauce and some bread. He was very concerned that we were both happy with our experience. Turkish food may not be for her but I would certainly return here if I ever return to Edinburgh.We both left full and very satisfied. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

I am upset that we've been to Edinburgh several times and just found this restaurant! We did the Chef Special and could not have been happier. The cold and hot starters were excellent, but the main course was spectacular. This will definitely be on our repeat list when we come back. Way more food than we could eat.

The food is always very fresh and the portions are generous. The staff are extremely friendly and polite. I’ve visited several times and each time I was very satisfied.

Soon as I walked in I was treated with big smiles and the authentic smells and sounds of a classic delicious and authentic Turkish restaurant. I definitely ordered more than I could handle so make sure you’re extra hungry! Thank you for such a lovely gift at the end of the meal! ! If you’re a local or just visiting and you haven’t tried Verdo, you’re definitely missing out!! Thanks again ! Can’t wait to go back

Great experience! Warm atmosphere, very nice and welcoming staff, and food is the best! Very tasty Turkish grills, the best I had in Edinburgh.

Most awful restaurant.Saw a rat in the restaurant.. Food was stale and rotten..meat was cold and looked stale ..Servers were shameless and were very rude.30 min into order no food came ..Then they said we have to order more ..or they not gonna serve us .I would not recommend anyone going there ..Looked like one of the servers had COVID.Runny nose and foul smell...This restaurant should close ..

The good: the food was excellent - this is the best and only highlight of our dining experience. The bad: the young waitress had a TERRIBLE attitude. We were not very hungry and wanted to order one less main dish. She literally turned her nose up to us and rolled her eyes backwards, then told us that isn't allowed. She asked us if we wanted drinks and we didn't. Again she responded with disgust. Later we asked a doggie bag to take some food away - she responded with disgust. When was it wrong to drink water and ask for a carry away box? What did we do wrong to deserve such a crappy attitude? Out of the kindness of my heart, I even gave the lady a 5 pound tip. I have never been treated with such disrespect at a dining establishment. We will not be going here ever again, and recommend that if you want to be treated with respect to not come here. If you respect yourself, don't come here. You can find good Turkish food elsewhere, where they will not treat you like a cash machine. This is a terrible establishment.

Sadly, this place is not vegetarian friendly. They grill everything on one grill - vegetables, bread and meat. The bread we were served tonight had pieces of meat in it. When I told the waitress she said "yes, we soak it in meat. You didn't tell me you were vegetarian." Ordering only vegetarian dishes is not a clue to tell diners that the bread has chunks of meat in it? What kind of restaurant serves meat bread and doesn't label it ?! Don't go here.

Unfortunate... we stopped here because the nearby highly rated restaurant was not open yet and we were starving. We ordered the iskinder kabob and something else that was basically chicken on a bed of eggplant. Maybe it was that we were American, they gave us two little mezzes and a salad on the house. But it just didn't make up for the completely underwhelming flavors of both dishes. The iskender was basically kobida with a poor attempt at a tomato sauce. If you like the taste of burned food this is it.

I came here for a two course lunch which was excellent value and heaps of food. We opted to share the chicken wings and mixed meze as our starters and they were.... Ok. The bread was delicious but the rest didn't thrill me. We all enjoyed our mains but again weren't overwhelmed. The service was very very good though so I'm willing to accept that my a-ok experience could have just been a poor representation of the restaurant as a whole.

Was basically in a food coma after this visit. Grub was amazing and plentiful. Had to cycle home after my feed and as I had stuffed myself to the brim it was a trying affair. Highly recommend. Nom nom nom. Everything tasted so good. Service was fast, servers were really accommodating.

Could smell the scrumptious Mediterranean BBQ all the way down the street. Good service, great food, so glad we followed our noses!

After living in Turkey for 13 years and trying to find a good Turkish restaurant in the USA, I found one in St. Paul, Minn. Now I found the best one at Verdo. The food and service was exceptional. I had the Iskender Kebab and my Wife had the Chicken Kebab. Bring an appetite.... Lots of salads with our meals and they use real Turkish pita.

I definitely gave this restaurant 5 stars. For the very yummy food, friendly service and cheap price! It's the best Turkish restaurant I have tried in Edinburgh. All the food is of great quality.

Friendly staff, delicious food, good value for money and you can see and smell your meal being prepared on the real charcoal grill in front of you - fab, I will definitely be back.

I come for a Business Stop to Edinburgh. At saturday night there are 3 tables free in the Location but they told me hey will reserved the tables for more than one people. Sorry, big fail for a Restaurant.

Wonderful welcoming small restaurant near Pollack Halls of Residence. We stopped in for some take away and were treated to hot Turkish tea while we watched our sis kebab being prepared over the open charcoal brazier. The mixed mezza platter was delicious and plentiful, the felafel crisp and well spiced, and the three additional containers of sauces, charred onions and mushrooms, and sautéed onions plus were icing on the cake. And they made sure we took some Turkish Delight as we left.
