Veriu Broadway, Sydney, Australia - Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"How did it strike you on arrival? A grunge-industrial aesthetic rules at Veriu Broadway in Ultimo, with vintage lounge chairs, bikes and exposed brick walls in the café-style lobby. On a side street off on of the city's main arteries, Broadway, the tall white 1900s building is a short walk from Central Station, handy for exploring nearby Chippendale, Glebe, Camperdown and Newtown neighborhoods. Nice. What’s the crowd like? Younger travellers, the young at heart, and fans of Airbnb’s home-away-from-home experience will appreciate Veriu Broadway, part of a fresh-faced chain of affordable apartment-style hotels in alternative neighbourhoods. This branch is near two universities, so students are among Veriu’s entourage, as well as professionals and families. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. Launched in 2017, Veriu Broadway has 64 rooms and suites in a converted textile and fashion warehouse and former tannery. Rooms start at 32 square metres, with self-contained studios, and one- and two-bedroom, split-level loft-style apartments, including the top-tier Skyline Suite at 60 square metres with a large balcony. Neutral decor mixes white, wood and raw surfaces, with creative spots for lounging, dining, working and storage. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us? Sink into your Kingsize ‘U-Bed’. Single, Queen, bunk and sofa-beds feature in some rooms, with the largest occupancy sleeping five. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase? Rooms have minibars and kitchens with espresso machines. Add breakfast and a vegetable or fruit box when you book online. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down. Vive Re-Charge amenities in the sleek white showers, with baths in select suites. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word? Free unlimited high-speed Wi-Fi is available in rooms, plus smart TVs with Foxtel, Handy smartphones and Bluetooth music docks. Room service: Worth it? There’s no room service, but The Hide lobby café serves coffee, tea, pastries, Sonoma bread, banana bread, protein balls and juices. Italian restaurant Salt Meats Cheese is nearby (68 Bay Street) or walk to Kensington Street’s Kopi-Tiam Spice Alley hawker market in Chippendale. Staff: If you could award one a trophy, who gets it, and why? Friendly Veriu Hosts are your 24-hour concierges and local area guides. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you. Off-site parking is a short distance away (charges apply). What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay? Lekker bicycles are free for guests to explore. Bottom line: worth it, and why? Sydney’s Veriu chain includes Veriu Central (in Surry Hills), Veriu Randwick (near Coogee Beach) and new-build Veriu Camperdown (sporting a lush tropical courtyard near Newtown) – with plans to expand. Show your room card at Veriu sister stays in town to enjoy the on-site facilities. Veriu encourages guests to mix and mingle." - Sophie Davies

What an amazing stay! The room was absolutely stunning and had a great vibe. The room had everything we needed as far as appliances, they all worked with no issues. Room had a great lay out with so much space and was extremely clean. Honestly the best hotel I’ve stayed at so far in Sydney. Concierge was so friendly/helpful and greeted me by name. Perfect location with great parking available. We will be staying here when we visit Sydney from now on. Pet friendly, my cat came too and he also loved it!

This is an excellent option for a family of 5. There was room for everyone and their cases. The space and layout had been thought about very carefully. The kitchen was well equipped. The washer and dryer was a great help. We walked to darling harbour most mornings. The shopping centre nearby was excellent

We had a great stay in Veriu Broadway. From the beginning the communication exchange with Veriu team via email has went very well. On the day of arrival - when we arrived quite late at night after a long road trip from Melbourne - we were greeted warmly by Roie in the reception. Roie helped us with the check-in process, which was very smooth and quick. We also received free drink vouchers to be used in the hotel. As of the hotel itself, the location is strategic with a mall located just behind the hotel and bus stop nearby. The room itself was clean and complete, and fitted our family of four perfectly w/ 1 king size bed, 1 single bed, and 1 sofa bed. Functioning as mini apartment, we had everything we need in the room including kitchenette with dining wares and utilities plus washer and dryer. Overall, we really recommend Veriu Broadway to those visiting Sydney. We, ourselves, will also be happy to come back to this hotel when we return to Sydney next time.

They just cancelled on me on very short notice because of ‘renovations’. If you prefer to avoid this, do not book here. The offered alternative is really far, and obviously not the same in terms of ratings and so on, which means I’ll now have to find a whole other affordable accommodation for a trip in like 2 weeks! Thanks a lot.

I stayed at Veriu Broadway for over a month while relocating to Aus from the US, and it was an incredible experience. My room was spacious, spotless, and comfortable — cleaned daily and fully stocked with coffee, tea, and all the essentials.||The lobby has a great vibe with a small café for coffee in the morning and beer/wine in the evening. The staff truly went above and beyond to make me feel at home. Johanna at the front desk was so friendly and helpful, assisting with both early check-in and late check-out and just fun conversation. Joe, the manager, was also fantastic and helped store my many bags when needed.||Another highlight: free access to a full gym just down the street — a huge plus for long stays and parking.||I would 100% recommend Veriu Broadway to anyone visiting Sydney. Amazing service, comfortable rooms, and a welcoming atmosphere that made a big transition so much easier. There are alot of great cafes and a huge mall near by as well.Thank you, Veriu team!

Loved our 5D4N stay at Veriu. The room was clean, the beds were super comfortable, and the kitchenette was equipped with the tools we needed. Service staff were very pleasant. A fire alarm went off one evening, appreciated how the staff were quick and clear with the comms throughout our evacuation and return to the rooms. Would 100% return for a stay our next trip to Sydney.

Second stay visiting friends that live around the corner. Cannot beat the price or location for what I need. Gym pass included - very nice touch! Staff wonderful with communication and welcoming hospitality. However, the rooms are noticeably not as clean/nice as they were before. Bed linens lots of random stains - which you see easily because the duvet isn’t a proper cover and so it comes out. Room 409 had a stank, old, musty sweaty smell that won’t go away even with opening the patio doors in the middle of (Australian) winter.

Such a charming hotel in Sydney. We stayed in the penthouse suite, and the place was great. Our place had a good size bedroom as well as a small room with a twin bed & a sofa bed in the living room. It was well equipped in the kitchen & also had a washer dryer. The ceiling height was super tall, and made the room look huge
