I loved my visit to Vermilion Lakes — it’s such a peaceful escape with stunning views of the mountains reflected perfectly in the calm water. It felt like a hidden gem just minutes from downtown Banff.
The area has several easy walking trails along the lakeshore that are perfect for a relaxing stroll or wildlife spotting. I saw ducks, geese, and even a few curious deer nearby. It’s great for photography, especially early in the morning or at sunset when the light is magical and the reflections are crystal clear.
There are picnic spots too, so it’s a lovely place to bring snacks and just soak in the natural beauty. If you’re into kayaking or canoeing, you might find rentals nearby to explore the lakes from the water.
A few tips from my visit:
• Bring insect repellent, especially in warmer months — mosquitoes can be pretty active near the water.
• Wear comfortable shoes for walking the trails.
• The parking lot can fill up quickly on busy days, so try to get there early.
• Don’t forget your camera — the views are spectacular from almost every angle.
Whether you want a quiet place to relax, a nature walk, or some beautiful photos, Vermilion Lakes is a must-see when you’re in Banff. I’ll definitely be back!
