I loved my visit to Vermilion Lakes — it’s such a peaceful escape with stunning views of the mountains reflected perfectly in the calm water. It felt like a hidden gem just minutes from downtown Banff. The area has several easy walking trails along the lakeshore that are perfect for a relaxing stroll or wildlife spotting. I saw ducks, geese, and even a few curious deer nearby. It’s great for photography, especially early in the morning or at sunset when the light is magical and the reflections are crystal clear. There are picnic spots too, so it’s a lovely place to bring snacks and just soak in the natural beauty. If you’re into kayaking or canoeing, you might find rentals nearby to explore the lakes from the water. A few tips from my visit: • Bring insect repellent, especially in warmer months — mosquitoes can be pretty active near the water. • Wear comfortable shoes for walking the trails. • The parking lot can fill up quickly on busy days, so try to get there early. • Don’t forget your camera — the views are spectacular from almost every angle. Whether you want a quiet place to relax, a nature walk, or some beautiful photos, Vermilion Lakes is a must-see when you’re in Banff. I’ll definitely be back!

We went and it was frozen so we were able to walk down to the dock and onto the frozen ice. The views here are lovely and there is also a nice walking trail which is somewhat hidden. You have to go all the way down to the end where the road is a dead end. The walking trail commences there.

Was here in June 2022. Incredible panorama of forest, mountain, lake, and sky. All rolled into one beautiful and inspiring view of nature. Note that we couldn't find a place to park to enjoy the views. So we parked at Fenland Trailhead and walked.

Vermilion Lakes is a peaceful and picturesque spot just minutes from Banff. The views of Mount Rundle reflecting on the water are absolutely stunning, especially at sunrise or sunset. It’s easy to access, with scenic pullouts along the road, and a great place for photography, a quiet walk, or just to sit and enjoy the calm. In winter, the frozen lake is just as magical. A must-visit for anyone looking for a serene Banff experience.
