Verride Palácio de Santa Catarina

A boutique hotel that exemplifies Small Luxury Hotels. Seriously. The character, charm, and style of Verride Palacio Santa Catarina is exactly what one seeks when booking with SLH and it delivered in spades. Plus, outstanding service. And a gastronomic restaurant to boot. We (@wolfestreettravel on Instagram and wolfestreettravel.com) stayed at Verride Palacio Santa Catrina for 3 nights during a 2+ month road trip across Italy, Malta, France, and Portugal. We would definitely stay here again.

Overall vibe the hotel has lots of character and thought put into it. Great private apartment off street in back of hotel - would LIVE here easily but ac and tv weren’t working properly which was unfortunate. Has Batman’s shower inside. Was almost doable at night but nah… moved to Suite on top floor in hotel to get better ac. Suite was good with another great view. The surrounding views are awesome and it’s chill in day but close enough to get lively at night. Would have been perfect but needs ac in street apt and maybe some of those mirror tv things on the walls. I didn’t eat here.

I have stayed at many hotels in the SLH group, and this is probably the worst one. My high expectations were met with disappointing results. The best part of the stay was dining at Suba restaurant, which offers an amazing view and proper fine dining food. I booked the Superior River View room for nearly 1000 euros per night through the website, but the service and cleanliness did not match the price. The facilities are not properly maintained; the pool and terrace could improve for the hygiene. The room had just been sanitized when I checked in, and it smelled strongly of disinfectant. The hair dryer was dusty and sticky, feeling like it hadn't been wiped down in a long time. The soundproofing in the room was very poor, and I was woken up at 5 am by the guests next door. Despite hanging a "Do Not Disturb" sign outside the door, housekeeping still pushed in at 7 am.

I stay in 5 star hotels around the world. This hotel was awful. Rooms: there was significant water damage in my room. See the pictures below. I liked the asop bath items. The hotel flower arrangements were beautiful. Services: appalling. There is a major lack of accountability and training. A member of the sales staff harassed me throughout my stay. Location: there is a lot of illegal activity around the hotel. My mother stayed here for a night and was afraid to leave her room after seeing the activity.

If you have kids under 12 years old, do not go to this place simply because you are not allowed. initially booked Suba Restarant only to find out that you can’t dine with kids under 12 years old which turned our experience from fine dining to no dining. We were told that the hotel has rooftop bar that we can dine & wine with kids. We were the only one in the roof top bar. The only nice thing about the rooftop is the view. Everything else is below average including the service. It took 1 hour to get our main dishes delivered. They didn’t have any of 4 sauvignon blancs that were available in the menu. The place has no vibe whatsoever. I made a mistake cancelling our reservation in another restaurant and reserving this place.. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend given price/value ratio

A true palace, where you are made to feel like the Lord or Lady of the Manor. Service, food, accommodations, location... all extraordinary! We celebrated our 20th anniversary here and enjoyed this boutique hotel more than any other. We will be back.

We absolutely loved this hotel! It is extremely well done , in a great location w a wonderful staff. The “ custom ordered “ breakfast was like having a private chef cook for us each day. Our room was well appointed. ( loved the Aesop products! ). We used the services of the concierge for a driver for tours and dinner reservations. All were great. We ended each night with a cocktail at their roof bar. I can’t recommend this hotel enough !

We are so glad we chose to stay here - everything was wonderful and we felt well taken care of. The hotel is beautiful and centrally located - we were able to walk to many attractions and the neighborhood was fun to explore. The staff's attention to detail and pride in the hotel was evident - from reception, to the restaurant to housekeeping - everyone was friendly and professional. We felt taken care of and welcomed by everyone we encountered. ||Just after booking, we read some negative reviews about the Bica rooms that made us nervous enough to wonder if we should upgrade. After seeing our room in person (Bica 7), we felt much better, and by the end of our stay, we knew we would be happy to stay in that room again.||The Bica rooms are not 'in the basement' as some other reviews have stated. While they are on floors below main reception, keep in mind that the hotel is on a steep hill and these rooms look out over the downward slope. Our floor to ceiling windows were still above street level, and we were afforded a beautiful view of the pedestrianized old town streets below. Yes, there are some buildings across the streets with windows that face the hotel, but we never felt a lack of privacy - for one, the room had sun shade blinds on all windows that diffused the bright Portuguese sunlight, but they also provided privacy from anyone who might happen to look into our room from the windows across the street (they didn't). It is something anyone who has lived in a city would be familiar and comfortable with. We heard street noise only when the garbage was being collected, and the windows provided enough soundproofing to ensure that noise was very light and brief. Our room was very spacious, and even with the sun shades down, there was plenty of natural light and it felt airy and gracious. The AC kept the room comfortable, and we were happy to spend the hottest hours of each day relaxing in the room. The bed was huge (and one of the most comfortable hotel beds I've slept in). The bathroom is small, but beautifully designed. The shower water pressure was glorious and we appreciated the Aesop toiletries. ||The hotel was currently doing renovations on our floor, but you would never know it. There were a few discreet renovation notices on doors and we saw some workmen during the day, but the sound was well insulated behind multiple doors and we were never disturbed. The privacy was actually remarkable - even though the hotel was fully booked during our stay, it was never noisy and we never felt crowded. We saw other guests occasionally, but it never felt like we were competing for space in the common areas or for the staff's attention.||We enjoyed lunch and cocktails at the rooftop bar every day (I do not drink and appreciated the no-alcohol cocktail options), and our visit to Suba on the last night was nothing short of exceptional. I encourage you to make dinner here a part of your stay, you will not regret it.||The nightly turn down service was such a treat - we looked forward to the little pastries and housekeeping did a wonderful job of keeping our room fresh. I took advantage of the complimentary iron/press service and my clothes were hanging in the closet hours before my requested delivery time. We had a very early flight on our last day, so we had to check out in the wee hours, and would be missing breakfast. Not to worry, reception had a car waiting for us at the door and had packed to-go breakfast boxes for us to eat on the way to the airport. ||I hope anyone who felt they had a bad experience at this hotel would consider trying it again. We we will remember it as being one of the highlights of our first trip to Portugal. My only regret was that the bathrobe was so expensive, It felt so luxurious, I would've gladly taken one home!

the best of the best. Everyone was so warm & welcoming. The rooms were luxurious & the bed was so very comfortable & the sheets so soft! The food was fresh, elegantly presented & soooo delicious! Views, massive fresh flower, incredible staff.... you won us over. Until next time!!

The hotel is located in an automotive restricted area. If you drive, obtain access information from the front desk. This caused a little confused which had me driving around Bairro Alto, looking for an access point. Cannot put in words how satisfied I am with the hotel and staff. After two weeks of holiday around Iberia Lisboa marked the end of my trip. The hotel is an oasis in the chaos of Bairro Alto. The restaurant and rooftop bar are great for small groups of friends. The staff is amazing and extremely friendly. I rank the professionalism and service of Verride Palácio compariable to any exclusive hotel in the world.
