Gorgeous hostel, kept very clean. Good location close to the train station and short walk to the centre of town (harbour and shops) as well as in between attractions such as the Notre Dam and fountain. All the staff we met were helpful, friendly and welcoming. The other guests were also friendly and good company, lovely courtyard and having a bar was a nice touch. Only downside is breakfast was not included and the room was a bit chilly at night.

Vertigo hostel is not like any any posh hostel like generators or St. Christopher Inn. But that doesn't mean it's not good. I have been to many hostel across Europe and for the first time I felt it like a home like place. The staffs of the hostel try their best to provide more than what resources they have. The luggage room is for free. The breakfast is for 5 euros but with limited options on buffet. Toilets are clean. If you enter the hostel, you might observe that the place was not meant to be an hostel but somehow they have converted it well into hostel. Location wise it's well connected just opposite to St. Charles Station and métros. Evenings are wonderful there near bar, where all hostlers hangout and share experiences. The quality of hostlers are good as you will find many experienced travellers all around the world in this hostel. Overall I stayed there for just one night but I was satisfied with my choice of this hostel.

The staff are fantastic, knowledgeable and friendly and the facilities are great for a hostel too! I stayed in the large dorm room out the back, and there was plenty of toilets and bathrooms so I was never kept waiting - the beds were clean and comfortable enough 👍 It's also really easy to get to from the train station/bus terminus. You'll have a great time in Marseille if you stay here! Would definitely recommend!

Really quite surprised to see such good reviews here. There is nothing positive that stood out to me about this hostel, aside from the proximity to the train station. After many hostel stays, this may be my least favorite ever. Whole place felt old and dated. No ac which meant open windows were required for fresh air at night. Room was filled with insects my whole stay and sleep was inconsistent from street noise. Only one shower worked in my room and I don't think the bathrooms were cleaned at all during my stay. Staff is very strict over no outside alcohol policy. Would not recommend to anyone I know.

Good for a hostel. Right across the street from the train station. The area isn't the best, but once you get away from the train station it isn't too bad. The bathrooms were clean and showers had good water pressure and plenty of hot water. Breakfast is 5 euros. Drinks are for sale at the bar. Smoke sometimes drifts into the bedrooms and common area which can be annoying. No major complaints.

We're in Marseille right now staying at this hostel. It's our first night and it's safe to say that we're quite disappointed. Although the location to the train station is good (about a 2 min walk) it also means that it'll make for a quick getaway! Upon arrival the staff were very unwelcoming and when I asked the boy behind the desk where the good places to eat were, he batted me away, didn't even look up from his computer and told me 'don't ask me, I've finished my shift' - how friendly! The area is very dodgy, I am travelling with a friend and as two young girls alone we felt very vulnerable. Try not to stay out too late if you're alone. The rooms are a good size, but there's no air con - which is NOT adequate on hot summer nights. Overall, my first impressions of this place are not great - hopefully it'll seem better in the morning.

Close to the train station, in a rough area with lots of charm - if you enjoy that kind of air - is a hostel with an almost decent WiFi-connection. The room and its bunk beds were clean, as promised there were no towels and the yard where the tenants hung out at night was noisy until early morning. For a one night "must-stay-in-Marsellie-close-to-the-train" kind of stay this is what you're looking for.

Tiny room with severely uncomfortable bed. Only 1 wall plug in for a 4 bedroom dorm. Wifi would hardly work in the rooms. Staff were unpleasant. Strict on bringing outside alcohol into the hostel to force you to buy it from their bar at their prices. Sketchy area with poor security - anyone can ask for anyone's key in the lobby and be given it. Would not recommend this hostel, nor the city.
