Viaje Restaurant

We've been meaning to try out the this place since it opened and what better excuse than an expiring resy credit from Amex Platinum. Good attentive service in a modern and dark space. Food was delicious and on point. The ceviche was flavorful and so was the black ink aguachile. The lamb portion was massive! We will definitely be coming back to try more dishes.

Was in the area and stopped by Viaje restaurant. The decor and ambiance is very clean, relaxing and gives you the feeling that you are in a resort. My favorite plate was the salmon al pastor. So delicious! But where this restaurant really stands out and makes it worth it to me, is their outstanding customer service! WOW, just WOW! We were so impressed with how attentive they were. New plates with each course, new cutlery, made sure the table was clean, poured our drinks and made sure we had everything we needed. Made our experience there so memorable!

Pleasantly surprised to have this experience of flavor, ambiance and service. We normally go to Nico’s or Marlena because of its consistency of flavor and location to home. Viaje is the equivalent and then some. The chef is from Mexico City and is the real deal. The food, starting off with the ceviche 9/10, ribeye appetizer 10/10, branzino 10/10 and then the dessert of the tres leches 10/10. Ok, so you don’t quite believe me, well, try 11/10 for the consume broth for the lamb appetizer!! David was our server recommended we just try the broth since we were so full. We were dipping tortilla chips into the broth like little kids it was so good!! It didn’t matter how full be were! Food all came out timely and together nice and hot. It’s rare to have everything taste that good from start to finish. Price may be an obstacle for most, but doesn’t break the bank like a Michelin Star place. Viaje is one of those restaurants that need to stay on 2nd St…it is the very best on that strip if not all of Long Beach.

We chose this place for an engagement dinner for 16 guests. The service was so amazing and the food was so delicious! We had an amazing time and we loved the fact that they personalized our menus. It was such a sweet touch.

Came here for NYE and exceeded all expectations. Ordered the aquachiles, barbocoa flautas, Zuchinni blossom quesadilla, the chicken mole, branzino, skirt steak. And Everything was delicious and so flavorful!! Service was attentive and warm. Food took a little longer but it also could have been how much food we ordered. 12/10 experience!

Wow, just wow... what a great experience. Not your average Mexican cuisine, more like Mexico City gourmet... not that I don't love me a good street taco. Came for my birthday and everything was damn near to perfect... even the suggested Mexican wine turned out to be amazing. Watch out California...

It's sad to say, because I really wanted to like this place. I'll start out with the good, really nice environment and nice looking restaurant. The people that work there were nice, I will say it was really odd to have so many people working at one time and all on the floor for some reason. Really something for management to look at but I think I counted the same amount of employees walking around as patrons at one point. Which made it more odd as to why everything took so long, including getting chips and salsa to the table at a Mexican restaurant. Everything just took way too long, throw some of those people just meandering around the front of the restaurant in the back getting things moving. It was not busy. At one point a whole group of team members took up the table next to us, likely on their break. But they seem to get much better service than we did. All that stuff was not that big a deal, more observational, but still notable. I guess the worst part was we ordered a couple appetizers and a couple of other things, including drinks. I say this to say that we had a really good selection of items including a recommendation from the server. As we were eating, I will say nothing was horrible, but for a nicer higher-priced restaurant, to say that literally nothing we had was good to either of us including the drinks. There's something wrong with that. Even the menu selection was kind of odd, I found it a little odd to not find an obvious "that sounds good". So long story short, everything looked good, nothing sounded good, and even worse nothing tasted good. Everything was very as the kids would say "mid"

We booked a group of 10 for my birthday. The initial impression was really great. The hostess was welcoming, our server seemed friendly, and the table menus had a special little note that said "Happy Birthday Kenna." But it ended there. A couple of us got there first and ordered cocktails right as we sat down but when the rest of the party arrived, it took 10 or so minutes just to get Nayeli's attention (our server). We literally had to shout her name to get her to pay attention because she would walk distantly around another table and not even look our way. She was attentive to smaller tables around us but it seemed like she paid us less attention because she knew she was already getting the 20% gratuity and didn't have to actually earn it. I get giving larger parties space but sheesh, she didn't do much of anything a server should do except welcome the first few of us on arrival. She didn't offer water or chips/salsa, she didn't come back to see when we wanted to order food, or check on us after we had our food/drinks. We had to flag her down for every little thing. The cocktails and food, however, were great. They were aesthetically pleasing, plated well, and had great flavor. We ordered a ton of items...flautas, tacos dorados, sopes de costillas, tostada de atun, barbacoa de cordero, arrachera steak, carnitas plate. The sopes de costillas and cordero were 10/10. They were so tender and flavored well. Will go back just for those. The winning cocktail was the pepino marg. I hope the service we received from Nayeli isn't a reflection of the restaurant itself because a few of us would love to go back for the food and drinks but maybe with just 2-4 people and not a large group. 3 stars might be a little harsh but it was a birthday celebration and we expected the bare necessities with service at a nice restaurant.
