A very non-transparent hostel. Attached is the sheet I signed before check-in and payment. When I requested an extra blanket at night per #6 which reads ”you can ask for blankets at reception.”, the reception said it costs 5 dollars. Then they reduced the price to 2 dollars. The bed is 6.8 dollars per night, so if 5 dollars, it would be 73.5% of the nightly rate. If 2 dollars, 29.4% of the nightly rate, when I had booked my bed primarily to sleep and therefore expected blankets to be inclusive of the nightly rate. The reception manager insisted that I pay, so I told her she and the hostel lack transparency and I feel that I have been deceived by them. I told her to pay me back the 3 nights worth of payment I've made earlier in the day, and that I was ready to leave right away. Only then did she relent and said that I could have an additional blanket for free. Even then, I was provided with a used blanket with no fresh fragrance of laundry detergent. It means that they tried to charge me 5 dollars for the blanket that's not even been freshly washed for me. The whole story is just ridiculous. The hostel needs to stop deceiving travelers by charging us all kinds of hidden fees, and display proper pricing on the web. They need to be fair to travelers and inform them of all costs, not just nightly rates if they attempt to charge 5 dollars per blanket. Which hotel on earth will charge you x dollars per pillow, y dollars per bedsheet, and z dollars per blanket, all in secrecy and you only find out about them after you've checked in and fully paid for your stay?
It's ridiculous. Ecuadorians need to stop deceiving foreigners like this.
