Vianden Castle

Great castle! Heated! The castle is beautifylly restored. I HIGHLY recommend paying the 2 euro for the audio guide!! It has amazing facts and stories as you wander through the castle and provides a ton of context. Well worth it so you know what room you are in and what it was used for. Not a ton of parking nearby so get there early because spots fill up quick! Otherwise you're walking up the hill. Various stairs and such as expected but you're not climbing any huge towers or anything. The views are spectacular. There are bathrooms in the castle as well as at the gift shop.

We went there with the family and loved the town. The castle captures very well the architecture of that history period with many items that are showcased that further explain that time period, but also on the upper floor there was an art exhibit with entries from young artists from around the world. The views from each balcony and amazing with nature and the village surrounding the castle.

Easy to reach from Luxembourg by train and bus. Entry is 13 euros. There is no much inside, mainly the structure and you can see foundations, the chapel,…. In 1820, William I sold the castle to a local merchant who immediately began dismantling the structure, selling off valuable materials such as roof tiles, wood paneling, doors, windows, and metal gutters, leaving the castle in ruins. The castle was restored in 1977.

Beautiful place. The entry price is reasonable, services inside are all clean and inviting. The building inside with the historical artifacts and information made for a great experience. I would recommend visiting to anyone in the area.

Vianden Castle – this dates back to the 11th century and has undergone many reconstructions since. It has now been lovingly restored and dominates the town from its lofty perch on top of a rocky outcrop. It is well worth a visit and at 13 Euros for a self-guided tour it is excellent value. The well-planned and informative route through the castle will give you an excellent insight to life there through the last ten centuries.

Excellent castle to visit, very reasonably priced including the cafe. Although there were a reasonable number of visitors following the route around the inside of the castle, the visitor centre (located through the gift shop) was empty. This contains exhibits and a film presentation of the development of the castle over it's life span. The graphics on the film presentation are excellent. If you visit the castle, please don't miss out on the visitor centre.

One of the most beautiful castles I have ever seen. It is located on a picturesque location up the hill and is intrinsically woven with the history of Luxembourg and the grand ducal family. It is very interesting to see how the castle has evolved from the Roman era until today.

I visited on Monday in the morning at 1030. Overall, it provided details regarding the history of the castle, but most required you to scan a QR code to read on your phone. An audio guide was available as well for €2 if needed. The castle was well preserved and provided a nice view of Vianden. A student ticket was €7. A visit of 1 hour should be sufficient, maximum 2 hours for a more detailed exploration of the castle and its history.
