7 Best Coffee Shops in Dublin | Condé Nast Traveler

"Tiny flags and bright lights hang above the counter at Vice Coffee, which is, rather appropriately, located in the back of a bar. The coffee shop itself doesn't open until 11 a.m., meaning you can indulge your vices the night before, sleep in, and roll in for some caffeine at a civilized hour. Vice's standard coffee drinks are decent, but first-time visitors should opt for a more decadent option, such as the award-winning Fancy Franky, a hot Irish coffee topped with orange-blossom cream." - Melissa Kravitz Hoeffner

Vice Coffee Inc., Dublin, Ireland – Bar Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"First impression? Tiny flags and bright lights hang above the counter at Vice Coffee, which is, rather appropriately, located in the back of a bar. The coffee shop itself doesn't open until 11 a.m., meaning you can indulge your vices the night before, sleep in, and roll in for some caffeine at a civilized hour. Sold! So who’s there? The uniqueness of a permanent pop-up java joint inside a bar attracts a good number of tourists and students, all of whom savor sipping spiked coffee cocktails in sunlight-free digs. How are the drinks? Vice's standard coffee drinks are decent, but first-time visitors should opt for a more decadent option, such as the award-winning Fancy Franky, a hot Irish coffee topped with orange-blossom cream. Worth ordering something to eat, too? Vice isn't necessarily a dining destination, but it does have a small selection of toasties (open-faced grilled cheeses) topped with ham, turkey, or pears, plus good pastries. Did the staff do you right? Fun-loving barista-bartenders are ready to chat—and push another drink on you, of course—so get ready to make new friends. Wrap it up: what are we coming here for? Hit up Vice for some of the best Irish coffee in the city (at a reasonable 8.50 euros, or $10) and other boozy hot drinks perfect for Dublin's signature gray days." - Melissa Kravitz Hoeffner

Google
The bar gets 5 stars! The kitchen 1. Such a diverse place, you have bartenders making some of the best Irish coffees we ever had and then you have a kitchen with a promising menu but really bad executed. Check the poached eggs in the pictures, they were over done and the brisket was like beef jerky, dry and chewy. The rest of the food was looking good but it was like it was made yesterday. The establishment looks more like a night bar than a cafe. Definitely I would go back for drinks only :)

Google
one of the few options to get specialty coffee after 4pm… unfortunately the service we encountered here was horrible. the barista lady wad very visibly annoyed and even rude because she was already cleaning the bar, even tho we arrived at like 17:15 which is almost an entire hour before closing time. We got the coffee served in takeaway cups and she was like “whatever” when we asked if we can sit down. Coffee was good

Google
This is the best coffee shop in Dublin! My first Irish Coffee and all the rest will surely disappoint. The lemon bar is incredible. You must come here

Google
We loved the Irish coffee here!—it comes with a twist, so the slightly higher price feels justified. My favorite item is the Plain Jane—so delicious! The location is inside Wigwam, a super hip spot that adds to the whole experience.

Google
I wasn't a fan of Irish coffee until I tried one here. It was truly amazing. Staff was friendly and helpful. Cozy and comfy.

Google
Excellent Coffee (try the Irish Coffee!) & Brownies and very friendly staff. The interior is modern and simple and the overall atmosphere (at least when its not too busy) is very relaxed. I can only higly recommend this place.

Google
Inside Wigwam you'll find Dublin's best coffee and best Irish coffee. I feel like everyone claims this title, but besides my personal study they won a good amount of awards for the Irish Coffee. Food is very good as well and the other stores in the building add to the same vibe. Found the store on a food tour and would recommend it to everyone!

Google
I really enjoyed the specialty Irish coffee! Though it's on the pricier side (€10+), the bar's warm, cozy atmosphere and friendly servers make it worth it. It's a great spot to catch up with friends!

Yelp
If you see the signs for Wigwam, walk in a bit to this expansive space and prepare to be amazed. This was my first Irish Coffee ever and it was so amazing, it made me a convert. I ordered the (award winning) Fancy Frankie. It was like the perfect blend of alcohol and coffee, sweet with an absolute kick. A light, creamy foam perfumed by orange zest. The perfect size to indulge in without going overboard. Service could not be sweeter and it was easy to sit back and relax while admiring the funky decor. Well worth a visit for your Irish coffee enthusiasts!

Yelp
Slow on a Monday after work but the ambiance was perfect for me as an introvert. The fancy Irish coffee was a highlight and the dj was playing soft disco music. Very friendly and helpful barista/bartender.

Yelp
Maybe the service was a little confusing; where to order coffee versus getting your Brazilian meal at the shared Wigwam space (also good). But the iced mocha was to die for. Ganache chocolate and served in a martini glass. 5 stars for sure.

Yelp
Vice is must stop for hand-crafted Irish Coffee when you're visiting Dublin. Ask for Conall and Sarah. They will take great care of you. Remember: sip the coffee through the amazing Irish cream!

Yelp
My favorite coffee place so far in Dublin! A great place with good coffee ( at least for their latte that I ordered), comfortable seatings with stable internet and charging slots. I have lactose intolerance and they offer oat milk as alternative to regular milk, which is definitely a huge plus for me. I came here in a weekday afternoon and it wasn't crowded at all. Will always come back here if I don't plan to work from the office.

Yelp
Short and sweet review. Vice is housed in the Wigwam building. The coffee is great. On Saturdays they have Dublin Doughnut Co doughnuts which are awesome! I love Wigwam. There's a great feel to it and it's so nice to sit in here for a coffee and a sweet treat 9' a Saturday morning :)

Yelp
This is downright the one coffee establishment in Dublin that has given me the best customer service. After moving from California, I realized that not many businesses prioritize customer service and hospitality; but even then, it's Ireland--land of the nice, home of the happy? I came in here looking for a nice cup of coffee and because the sun decided to shine high and bright, I opted for a cold caffeinated drink--a suggestion made by one of the baristas, the Vietnamese Coffee, €4.5. It is a concoction made up of a darker roasted coffee, sweetened with condensed milk, poured over ice. Firstly, I hail from the San Gabriel Valley, where Mr. Lee's Vietnamese Coffee resides and I know my Vietnamese Coffee when I taste it. It is very hard to go against Lee's, but I would say Vice gave it its best efforts. I could tell by the color that it was completely off--Vietnamese Coffee is a medium brown. The flavors were definitely there, but traditional Vietnamese Coffee is a tad stronger--in flavor and caffeine. I think the amount of condensed milk in the drink overpowered the flavor profile of the coffee. I'm not sure how they make it, but I would recommend that they brew the coffee over the condensed milk. Brewing techniques should be similar to that of other coffee pour-overs. Other than that, I would come back for the sweet Baristas and ample seating! If it's a sunny day, I'd recommend you snagging a seat outside! The sun in Ireland is too beautiful to pass on.

Yelp
Come for the doughnuts, stay for the hot chocolate.., and then go home. I'm a regular at Vice because they serve Dublin Doughnut company doughnuts every Thursday/ Friday and Saturday. I'm not sure their own selection of cakes would really live up to my expectations though if doughnuts weren't on offer. They have some anaemic raspberry slices and a lemon slice that look quite unappetising. Well everything does when there are doughnuts. Their malted hot chocolate has been mentioned here before and with good reason. It's possibly the only hot chocolate in Dublin that doesn't make me feel sick afterwards. The atmosphere is good too and the staff attentive and friendly.

Yelp
5 star coffee, one of my favourite coffee spots in the city! They serve it a variety of ways, most recently I've had a "Chaser" which is an espresso along with teeny little glass of what tastes like a latte (called a Gibraltar), served on a wooden board (cute!). I came here recently with a vegan friend and of course they were able to sub milk for her with almond milk, she said her flat white was lovely too! I've come to associate this particular spot more now as a place to go for a daytime coffee, than out for the night in the Twisted Pepper (RIP). In terms of seating, the booths are cool and cosy for a small group (although sometimes taken up with laptop hogs for long periods) and the staff are super sound.

Yelp
Awesome Irish coffee, try their award winning Fancy Frankie! Good vibe and friendly staff. Free WiFi, comfy and convenient place to work or relax. Check out the rooftop terrace too!

Yelp
Awesome coffee shop with fantastic Irish coffee. They have a real cool vibe in their location and the staff is so friendly. The have wifi, charging slots, and comfortable seating. Oat milk is also available for the lactose intolerant!

Yelp
We came here for a YELP pitstop while on the walking tour. It was very nice. Tom, the barista/owner made us some coffee and we sampled enough to get our juices going. The best part was when he prepared the ice coffees for the hot weather. Thank you!
google avatar

Jennie C.

Yelp
Good coffee and lots of nice choices. They seem to also have a lot more pastry choices than when I went before! I ordered the Vietnamese coffee - it wasn't as strong as I'm used to, but it was very refreshing and the coffee flavor stands out. Lots of seating choices indoor and out and there's a nice vibe. I'd definitely come back!

Yelp
These guys know about coffee!!! Was at a coffee tasting session here which was really interesting. You could see how passionate the barista was about his coffee. There is a selection of coffee beans and a couple of different brewing methods available. The coffee was great and the Vietnamese iced coffee was amazing!!! They also have a small selection of sweet treats to accompany your coffee. The ambience in Vibe is really relaxed, great place to go for a coffee and properly chill.

Yelp
This spot is smashing the other coffee spots in Dublin. What an mazing coffee board they have. I Was suggested to try their Vietnamese iced coffee and I loved it and i am welling to come again to try more of their coffees. The place itself is very cool, they have Amazing Mexican tiles in the entrance and behind the bar. The long velvet red curtains that separates the two seating areas. The big arrow sign with lights ( order here) and the wooden chairs and table all ads together a mixture between classic and hipster touch to the place.

Yelp
During the day Twisted Pepper disguises itself as a trendy coffee place. The coffee is absolutely fantastic. They do tasting trays and have a variety of single origin coffees to choose from. They also do some very tasty toasted sandwiches. During the day you can actually see that the Twisted Pepper looks kind of cool. They have lamp shades made of Jameson bottles. I got a chaser; a shot of espresso and Gibraltar (kind of like a milkier machiatto). Both were very nice. I also got a cheese toasty that consisted of provolone, cheddar and gruyere. It came with a little dish of homemade pesto which made it extra nice. Vice is a nice place to get a coffee and hang out during the day.

Yelp
I did a coffee tasting here and couldn't recommend it more. The guys are so nice and took the time to talk us through each coffee and the blends. They answered all our questions and even finished it off with an Irish coffee. If you're looking to find out more about coffee and learn about the different brewing and roasting methods I couldn't suggest this more!

Yelp
YES Vice Coffee Inc. Just YES. Always loved the place as 3FE, but it's managed to get even better in its new incarnation. Vice provides an unbelievably high quality coffee experience: a choice of two single origin beans or blends to go for, first class equipment, great recommendations from friendly baristas, really nicely done out place (newly revamped), a few cakes/sweet things, free wifi - it's got it all. Great value too for what you get (in my mind as a coffee fanatic, at least) Plus, there's a great choice of beans to take away - not just from Hasbean, but from other British, Irish and International micro-roasteries too. My favourite proper-coffee cafe in the city.
google avatar

Gearoid O.

Yelp
Vice does great coffee. At €3 for a double shot small latté, it's not cheap, but it's very tasty. A big factor in this are the beans. Has bean coffee is increasingly usedaround Dublin, none of them are as good as the original though. Despite its recent renaming, vice has been around for a good few years, and it's very good. As all good coffee should, there's no coffee rush the instant you taste some, just a mild buzz which lasts for much longer. The reason this coffee is the best is down to their baristas, who do an excellent job. Side note, cute milk bottles abound.

Yelp
News just in: Vice do malteaser hot chocolates... I cod you not. They are sweet and delicious and perfect for anyone who's serious about developing their hot chocolate palette. There is also the option of getting it with oat milk, a very welcome alternative for us milk-haters.

Yelp
Just tried it today. Small menu, great coffee. Some of the ex-3FE folks involved, plus it's 3FE coffee.

Don W.

Yelp
Got in here early of a Friday , very quiet just me one other person and the barista. Who was nice welcoming and chatty ... They have a cool coffee menu on small plywood pieces that the screws are purposely mismatched on The coffees great , I treated myself to a latte , which unfortunately was served in a glass , which again I know it can be and is not to say anything negative about the place , I'm just really not into it , I think coffee belongs in a cup ! vice has been on my list for a long time ! Chuffed I finally got to go and it did not disappoint :) great coffee
google avatar

Yelp
A friend of mine has been raving about their aero-press coffee for a while, so I was delighted that this was included in the recent Yelp! Arts & Culture tour (thanks Emily & Emily!) I tried a sample of two different types of coffee, and it's the real deal ....I also loved the iced coffee which was the last treat on the menu...perfect for the day that was in it - thanks Tom! Vice looks like the perfect place to relax and unwind and if you like good coffee, this place should be top of your list...suffice to say, I'll be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Just reopened and it doesn't let me down, excellent new layout awesome donuts and a killer machiato, price point is good and the all day lunch menu looks excellent will definitely ve back for more!!
google avatar

Hayley N.

Yelp
great coffee! It's been haunting my facebook newsfeed for weeks but finally managed to pop in for a takeaway cofee. At three euro its not cheap but it was definitly worth it. Friendly baristas and a very tempting selection of slices mean coupled with the excellent flat white mean i will definitly be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Possibly the best place to enjoy coffee in the city. They have coffee from the most interesting roasteries in Europe, so their variety of single origans and blends are always top quality. The baristas are friendly and are always on hand to offer advice. the filter, espresso and milk coffes are always as good as they get. On top of this they also offer a variety of seasonal drinks. The ice tea and ice coffee during the summer are very refreshing, while the hot malted chocolate and hot whiskey (best in Ireland at this year's comp) are a must. They also server incredible sandwitches and (without a doubt) the BEST doughnuts in town. Enjoy.
google avatar

Andrew F.

Yelp
Awesome coffee! The folks at Vice were kind enough to organise a coffee tasting for a group of us from Yelp, which was a great opportunity to learn about coffee from people who really love the stuff. The barista walked us through the grinding and brewing process and gave us to chance to try a few of the coffees, which were delicious. The atmosphere is relaxed, the menu is simple and the baristas are great. After strolling around Dublin for a few hours on a warm summer's day, I just had to go back. Yes, twice in one day. But the Vietnamese Iced Coffee was just THAT good.
google avatar

Christian P.

Yelp
Great coffee and great vibe. You can sit outside when the weather allows and they also have a few other things at this venue (e.g. barber, bar and the odd chess match). It seems to be attracting a young hipster crowd - so bring a book and look cool.
google avatar

Edwina Elizabeth O.

Yelp
I absolutely love the coffee from Vice. Prices range from €3-€4 for the freshly filtered option and that's what I usually go for. The presentation is great - in a jug served on a wooden board. The sweet treats are fresh and tasty. There are comfy couches and tables inside as well as a counter and stools, you can also sit at the bars counter if you so wish. If you're hungrier than sweet treats you can always grab a toasted sandwich. I like to take my coffee and sit outside watching the world go by ;)
google avatar

Aisling O.

Yelp
This place has changed how I enjoy coffee. Unfortunately, this means that I can't enjoy it anywhere else because nowhere is as good! It is a wonderful addition to Abbey St., a great location if you are shopping on the northside but also not too much hassle to cross over too and well worth it. I even come into town especially to get my freshly ground coffee. The staff are friendly and helpful, also. LOVE THIS PLACE.
google avatar

Seanán K.

Yelp
I'd give it five stars only for the fact that my palette isn't strong enough to distinguish good from great, but I'm reliably informed by those who know that this really is the best coffee in Dublin.
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
Been here a few times and cannot fault the amazing coffee. One thing I can fault is staff members attitude. Although some staff are lovely. Just not worth the risk of ruining my day for a nice cuppa with so much excellent coffee so close .
google avatar

Mal O.

Yelp
Great coffee in comfortable surroundings. Friendly staff and good cakes. They have sandwiches now too which is a decent development, making it a viable lunch option. The furniture was getting a bit tatty but it was redone last year and it's looking good now. Free wifi is a bonus. If you need a haircut try box cutter downstairs.

Phil B.

Yelp
Was worried when I heard that 3FE were pulling out of the Twisted Pepper - I need not have been. If anything the cofee has gotten better since it became Vice (if that's possible). Love the fact that they have a choice of beans and do 'guest' espressos - including rather amazing beans from Koppi and Square Mile. I wouldn't mind having some lunch options - but then again, the simplicity of Vice is one of its appeals. So thankful to have cafes like Vice, Roasted Brown, Brother Hubbard and 3FE in Dublin.
google avatar

Gav C.

Yelp
No soya milk, offered me tea instead. I didn't want tea, they said they didn't use Soy as it didn't make good coffee. This isn't true, some people can make it fine, it just takes practice. A lot of people want soya milk, why say no to people?

Rob A.

Yelp
This is a cool cafe that serves good filter coffee, donuts and awesome toasties! love it.
