Finding the beach for the first time can be a bit of a challenge due to its hidden location. However, the silver lining is that this seclusion helps keep the beach less crowded, allowing for a more tranquil experience. Parking is available along Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), and to access the beach, you'll meander through a nearby residential neighborhood. Be prepared for a steep descent down stairs or a ramp; I wouldn't recommend bringing little kids or strollers due to the incline.
It's important to note that there are no restroom facilities at the beach. When we visited over Memorial Day weekend, there was a lifeguard on duty, which added an extra layer of safety. However, if you’re traveling with young children, you might find it more convenient to head south to the more family-friendly beaches located below The Montage.
To reach the tower itself, make sure to plan your visit around low tide; you'll be able to access it easily if you time it right. Before you go, check the tide schedules so you can maximize your visit. Along the path to the tower, there's a captivating tide pool. In my experience, I’ve only seen it filled with water once, so keep an eye out for that! Just be cautious of the large waves that can suddenly sweep in and fill the pool.
Overall, it’s a stunning spot that combines natural beauty with a hint of adventure. I highly recommend making the trek to Pirate Tower Beach if you find yourself in the Laguna Beach area; it’s an experience you won’t soon forget!
