We had a wonderful stay at the Victorian Inn! Quiet, clean, and comfortable. Welcoming staff and thoughtful accommodations for our late arrival/check-in. Perfect home base for a weekend on the lost coast and running the Humboldt Half Marathon on the Avenue of the Giants among the redwoods. Conveniently located on main street with variety of fun shops and friendly staff. Beautiful hike among a sitka spruce stand of trees in easy walking distance from the inn. We will definitely return...!

Everyone was so nice! From check to our grab and go breakfast when checking out.|We really enjoyed our stay. Wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy the inn and the quaint little town of Ferndale. However we did go to breakfast at Papas. I hope I spelled it correctly and did a little shopping. We took a ride to the beach and got to see the Pacific Ocean. Thank you for a memorable time!

We stayed in the Olivia room with a king bed. It was a nice size and comfortable. The bathroom is nice and large with a tub/shower combo. There’s a shared lounge with a refrigerator, coffee machine and microwave since the rooms don’t have these. |We enjoyed the inn and the cute town. Breakfast is still grab and go with a yogurt, piece of cheese, kind bar and a stale croissant with butter and jelly.

We had an adjoining room & they were both beautiful & the beds were comfortable & the decor was beautiful & the dinner was very good at the restaurant. I only wish we would have had 2 nights there instead of just 1. Everyone was very attentive & seemed pleased that we were enjoying our time there. The town was also very cute to walk around & shop in.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Victorian Inn in Ferndale during my visit for the Christmas tree lighting on 12/1/24. Since I was traveling from Napa (a 4-hour drive one way), I decided to stay overnight, and I’m so glad I did. The experience exceeded all my expectations. Check-in was quick and easy, and the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming. They truly made me feel at home right from the start. The hotel itself is charming, and here are a few highlights of my stay: The room was spotless and thoughtfully furnished, offering a comfortable and relaxing environment. The bed was incredibly comfortable, with soft, warm linens that made for a perfect night’s sleep. A noise machine in the room created a peaceful, calming atmosphere, helping me drift off effortlessly. The water pressure in the shower was fantastic, and the towels were soft and luxurious, adding to the feeling of indulgence. One of the surprises was the first floor, which features both a restaurant and a jewelry store. Although I didn’t get the chance to try the restaurant (it was fully booked during my stay), it’s definitely on my list for next time. The jewelry store, however, was a real gem. I was particularly impressed by their selection of men’s jewelry. As someone who wears cufflinks regularly, I found several great options to choose from. If they didn’t have exactly what I wanted, they also offer the option to have custom pieces made in-house, which is a wonderful perk. As someone who travels 30-60 days a year, I’ve had my fair share of hotel experiences, but the quality of the linens and towels at the Victorian Inn truly stood out. It reminded me of the luxurious standards I experienced during a recent stay at the Fairmont in San Francisco—high praise for this charming inn. I highly recommend the Victorian Inn to anyone visiting Ferndale. It offers exceptional value, superb service, and a welcoming atmosphere. I’m already looking forward to returning — possibly next month!

Google
Nice place and I am guessing the best place in Ferndale. Central kitchen for coffee, bring your own K-cups if you prefer something not a breakfast blend.|Highly used surfaces clean, i.e. bathrooms. But repainting is overdue and until then, at least clean the doorway, window trim, etc. touch points are simply dirty.

We had dinner in the dining room. The room is very nice and comfortable. The staff is very friendly and took care us very well. The dinner started with bread, which was the most disappointing part of the meal. The bread was just store bought rolls. Next we had a bowl of clam chowder which was excellent yum. We had the blackened salmon, it was good but I guess I am spoiled because I catch my own salmon fresh from the ocean and river. The little potatoes were very tasty, the asparagus was cold , if it was hot it would have been good. Yes if we ever come back to ferndale we would eat there again.

Lovely staff and unique & beautiful hotel. Very cool bar and fantastic restaurant. A common room is well stocked and has plenty of room to gather. Coffee, tea available in the common room. Bathrooms are very clean and beds had great mattress and pillows.

Yelp
Sunday evening Prime Rib was delicious, ambiance was incredible with very attentive service. They have different specials on different evenings. Reservations are recommended. Bon Appetite!

Yelp
An old Victorian house turned into a hotel..... restaurant was fine. Could use some cushioned chairs in the dining room. Dinner was great. We had a ceasar salad with excellent dressing. Our room was #212. Comfy mattress, clean room. The room could use some talc, paint chipped all over connecting room door. Floor Heaters rusty, windows don't open. There was NO mention about an elevator. So we had to climb around 24 steep steps. Carpeting could be updated as they look warm out and faded except for the entrance. If you wear a C-Pap, our rooms outlet was behind the bed. We asked for help. Overall we enjoyed our stay, but I would have given 5 stars if the above notations were addressed. Cute quaint town.

Yelp
When you first walk in, you're introduced to the bar as well as the hostess. The hostess is towards the back, but is easily accessible. Once checked in regarding reservations, usually you are taking straight to your table, like I was. The hostess was amazing. We arrived 15 minutes before our actual time. They were very accommodating. When we were seated, we were promptly introduced to our waiter for the evening, Lucas. Throughout the evening, he was very thorough with making sure everything was up to par, and our water glasses were full. We had the shrimp cocktail appetizer, which I did not take a photo of. Whoever on the menu it does specify you receive five prawns. We requested six, so we could each have our part. All of them were a decent tiger shrimp prawn size, and very filling. The cocktail sauce was very spicy, but I enjoy it. If you don't like horseradish, I definitely don't recommend it. We were also served bread with balsamic vinegar and oil, which hit the spot perfectly. One thing I did not appreciate regarding our bread, when we asked for another helping, we did not have the additional serving a butter. But with balsamic and vinegar, it was okay. Regarding the salad, it was basic. However, having the salad already tossed with the dressing of our choice, it was perfect. Onto the main course. My boyfriend ordered the filet mignon and I the paella Portuguese. The Pala Portuguese included multiple clams as well as chunks of chicken breast and ham chunks. There were only two shrimp tails. Granted with the lack of shrimp, the dish was phenomenal. The rice was cooked perfectly. The spices were on point. I would have preferred more shrimp than scallops. But everything meshed well together for me. My boyfriend shared of few bites of his filet mignon with me, and it was cooked to perfection at medium rare. Overall, I'm blown away not only at the food, but the service we received. The price also blew me away. But it was honestly the best I've had recently. I highly recommend coming here for a date night. On a regular evening I would not recommend it.

Yelp
I can't believe I have yet to review this jam. I was there on 4th of July a year ago on my motorcycle ride to Oregon. If you like Victorian style or unique stays you should definitely go there. It's definitely an experience. Not only the inn, but small town Ferndale Main Street is an experience as well. I think the building where the inn is located is a historic building. Staying there is like going back in time. The restaurant is great as well. Really worth it, I'd really love to go back there.

Yelp
We went for my birthday dinner and we were so disappointed! Our waiter Ryan was very rude and unprofessional. He didn't offer to grind pepper, it took a long time to get our food and the quality of food has gone down hill for sure. It used to be one of our favorite restaurants but not anymore. Ryan was supposed to take a meal off our bill and didn't and was rude about it. I wish we would've had the other waiter, he definitely was a lot more respectful and professional. We were the first customers there and the last to get our food, very simple order

Yelp
We came here for dinner while staying in Ferndale at the Victorian Inn. The staff was super friendly and attentive. Maleah (hotel reception), Darian (bar and restaurant), and Ryan (bar and restaurant) were welcoming, knowledgeable, and gave us fabulous recommendations. The oysters with kimchi were fresh and delicious, the mac n cheese was phenomenal, the fish and chips were delicious, and the baked Brie, yum! The vibe overall was adorable and very small town charm. Definitely a must visit next time we come back here.

Yelp
My friend and I ate at the restaurant, and it was so good! Delicious food, great friendly service, and lovely historic atmosphere. Definitely a highlight of our trip!

Yelp
We stayed here during our first anniversary get-away since 2019. (Because pandemic, obviously.) We were looking to explore somewhere we had never been, although driveable for a few days excursion from the Bay Area. Ferndale quickly made its way to the top of our list and my honey found this place to stay. We opted for a fancier room, the one on the very corner of the building, and it was a good choice. It has a turret with a small table and chairs that overlooks Ferndale's main street. You check in at the jewelry store downstairs (seriously) and then head up. Be careful on the stairs -- they are precarious and we heard that someone fell shortly before our visit. The room itself was quite comfortable and the location convenient to explore the shops and other spots along the main street. They have a restaurant, VI, downstairs, so can't get more convenient than that for a drink and/or meal before heading up to your room. They were offering grab-n-go breakfast, which we took on our way to visit the Avenue of the Giants (highly recommend). It was pretty basic, think snack bars, croissant, yogurt, etc., although worked fine for us pre-hike. There are also a couple coffee shops walking distance. The staff we encountered at check-in and the restaurant were all friendly and helpful. The owners seemed genuinely bummed to see us depart.

Yelp
Outstanding experience! We've had the pleasure of staying at the Inn a few times now.

Yelp
I'm usually never one to leave negative reviews but I really feel robbed leaving the restaurant. For a "fine dining" restaurant with expensive prices the food is not good at all. We sent back the french onion soup which was nearly inedible with gross onions, burnt bread and no cheese, which was then replaced by the flavorless clam chowder that tasted like straight heavy cream. Then the ribs which simply did not taste good and the short rib which you should definitely save your money on considering it's $40 price. I don't know if the chef has ever tasted the food he produces but the price to food quality is honestly offensive. wouldn't ever return

Yelp
We were staying at Ferndale on our way up the Northern California coast and wanted to try a local restaurant. This was the only place that was open when we arrived at 7pm, and we were glad that we stopped by. The service (from Ryan) was excellent, and the place is beautiful and not crowded. We enjoyed the daily special (chicken breast wrapped in bacon), filet mignon and salads (not over dressed), and the locally made ice cream. The whipped butter is to die for. Overall, a good dining experience at a reasonable price.

Yelp
We planned our rehearsal dinner for my son's wedding at the Victorian Inn's private room and I cannot say enough for the incredible service we received. First of all, Lowell was very good in preparing us for the venue details so there was no surprises. Genny was over the top in helping me design the layout for the tables. She was there to help me set up my table decor with lighting etc. and when I ran out of flowers (went overboard on the head table), she went searching for me and even went to her local florist to provide more flowers for me!! I was so grateful and the tables looked stunning! Then when the party started, the staff was on top of it with perfect timing in bringing out the appetizers, wine and the entrees. The dishes were perfectly cooked (great halibut and filet mignon), hot and pleasing to the eye. I truly believe the folks at VI really cared about the success of our event. I will always be grateful for their efforts on our behalf.

Yelp
Delicious dinner. Not pictured is the beautifully plated dinner salad with apple vinaigrette. Beef bourguignon was so tender no knife needed. Rich and delicious! We went during Christmas time so it was elegantly decorated and felt so cozy in the restaurant with the fireplace. My friends had their patrole sole fish & chips which they said were also delicious.

Yelp
We spent 2 nights at the Inn. It was absolutely wonderful. Room was beautifully decorated and fit the style of the hotel. The beds were very comfortable and clean. They have a common room that 4 of us enjoyed both after dinner and while having breakfast. The beautiful staircase is a killer but it fits the beauty of the Inn. We loved it enough that I have already made 2 more reservations for this year and will use it as our go to when heading south.

Yelp
Wonderful place, wonderful staff! Had dinner and stayed overnight in conjunction with a concert at the Old Steeple (located about 25 meters away!) Very convenient. The hotel is almost a museum on its own, steeped in history. Rooms are large and very comfortable. Interestingly, the building has survived numerous earthquakes and we had a wake-up one during the night (3.2).

Yelp
It does not get any better than the Victorian Inn!! Do not pass this quaint town!! The historic hotel is beautifully decorated throughout the hotel, bar a d restaurant. Beds are comfortable and with the windows open, the cool breeze provided unbeatable sleeping conditions. The common area is a perfect area providing coffee, tea, hot chocolate with a lovely seating area. Books, games and a wall of coffee cups make this a warm and inviting space. I LOVE this hotel. We also had the pleasure of meeting the owners who were as warm and inviting as their lovely Victorian Inn.

Yelp
Fantastic stay. The owner Jenny and her team were extremely accommodating. We loved our room and especially the 16 ft ceiling. The icing on the cake is they have a Tesla charger that you can reserve during your stay. We are going back for Christmas! Go team VI....

Marilyn B.

Yelp
Beautiful historic inn. The charm and hospitality was awesome. The public room was a great meeting place for our group to play cards ( provided by our host upon request. We were amazed at how totally quiet it was overnight. The rooms were beautifully appointed with quality linens. We truly enjoyed our meal at VI. The baby back ribs were amazing! We would go back to eat the ribs again. Our only caution is a tough flight of stairs that are shallow and edges are rounded so it's a haul with suitcases and the elderly might have a hard time climbing then. The town of Ferndale is quaint and welcoming and easy to do in a short period of time with some quality shops. We will be back.

Yelp
I stayed here for my wedding and everything was perfect. The innkeeper was excellent and made us dinner reservations as soon as we arrived. He also was sure to give us souvenir copies of the Ferndale newspaper to commemorate our stay. The rooms were adorable and Victorian while still having the modern necessities like a small fridge and hot water. Everything was immaculately clean and the sheets were some of the silkiest I've ever felt at a hotel. The common room had board games, tea, and real coffee mugs (not plastic!) available which was a great touch. We will stay again.

Yelp
Stay at The Gingerbread Inn down the street. Omg- cleaning staff woke us up at 9:00 am both mornings? They should be coming after 11:00 am when whack out is. Come on! Ok, yes. This place is beautiful yes this place is a Victorian. However, this is yet another business who has lames covid for their lack of 'magic.' This is a bed a breakfast. Part of the higher amount of the costs that go to a Bed and Breakfast, includes a served hot breakfast. The breakfast we were served; Costco croissant, Costco bought yogurt (not even a Hugh quality or dairy alternative), a bar from Costco, preweapped jelly instead of house made preserved. Part of the magic of a bed a breakfast is a home Made, hot served breakfast. They have a dining area, with a chef... why isn't breakfast in loin this 'Bed and Breakfast'? VI restaurant had one seafood option, which wasn't available. We wanted to stay at a coastal bed and Breakfast and eat seafood all weekend. This was just an all around, expensive disappointment. I wish we stayed at the Gingerbread Inn down the street- they're still serving hot home made breakfasts, in house preserved. Just really bummed out. This is our first weekend away from our kids in two years. So bummed.

Yelp
We have been allured back to the magic of Ferndale. We stayed at VI last year in Jessica's Haven room. The hotel check in must be by 9pm though. So keep that in that in mind if your last minute travelers like us. This small town closes early, but it was perfect place for us to rest after camping in the redwoods. It is very quiet historic place and at night your imagination can get the best of you. In fact, in was established in 1805! Nevertheless it was a charming and pleasant stay. The free breakfast was delightful. Close walking distance to main street shops. Last night we returned after one year later and dined here. The food was exceptionally delicious! Lowell & Jenny are welcoming seating us in their large windowed spacious well lit dining room. We had the seafood linguini special with scallops, shrimp and mussels. It was DELICIOUS! The starter of clam chowder and coconut curry choices superb. Very nice wine selection. The deserts goos. I had a blackberry crumble with vanilla ice cream and my beau had the butterscotch pudding. The caramel creme brûlée sold out! Next day we couldn't stop talking about how good our dinner was at VI. The service was GREAT. It always surprises me when I read other visitor reviews that have service expectations comparable to SF or LA. Frankly, we felt the food was better than many restaurants in SF or LA. This is a lovely hotel & restaurant with wonderful memories to be made. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Charming old hotel that's a nice change from roadside motels. The whole town is a Victorian preservation, but it's pretty slow and while not truly deserted, it's close. Hotel is charming, but dated. Our room was tiny, with almost no furniture. There's a very long stairway to all rooms and no elevator. Breakfast menu is very limited and service very slow. Charming, though.

Yelp
We love the Victorian Inn. I've been coming here for years and they always treat me like royalty. The spacious rooms are charming and cozy once you get the heater figured out. I love the floral wallpaper and the velvet couches. Breakfast is nice too!

Marx M.

Yelp
A lovely piece of history. Located right right in the middle of the historic downtown. Not much more money than a hotel by the highway, but so much better value. Excellent complimentary breakfast as well. The owners are so kind and accommodating and deserve our support!

Yelp
We were looking to stay in Eureka but luckily stumbled upon Victorian Inn in Ferndale. We were delightfully surprised by the authenticity and charm the hotel and room offered. The staff was professional and welcoming, the bed comfortable and luxurious. Vintage music played in the upstairs hall. Breakfast ok, with Chobani yogurt, pelio bar, cheese, and a large (but cold) croissant, the updated fair for COVID times. The room we had was 201, the ira russ room. It is on the corner, facing main street, so if you're noise sensitive, I'd ask for a back room away from main street (but you'll miss out on the beautiful round sitting area.) We weren't bothered by the noise, just aware of it at times. We dined at the restaurant, hubby having a perfectly cooked and extraordinarily tender steak. I enjoyed the paella (but the steak was the better choice ;). Water pressure wonderful. Internet satisfactory. Would definitely stay at this hotel again, and appreciated all they did to maintain covid safety.

Marian K.

Yelp
We requested the Silvia room and it was very comfortable. The restaurant was very nice. We ordered the short ribs which were delicious. The proprietors were very friendly and accommodating. The town of Ferndale is such a treasure and the people are so friendly. We really enjoyed our time there.

Yelp
We initially wanted to stay at the Hotel Ivanhoe because we read about the dinners there but it is closed Monday and Tuesdays so we ended up at the V.I. The Emily Rose Room was a little small but still comfortable. A little noisy in the room from the ventilation system outside the window that we opened as it was a warm afternoon. The open parlor had good WIFI and self serve coffee and tea was available. Downstairs a very good breakfast was enjoyed. We ate dinner there and it was OK but nothing outstanding. Parking was out in the street right in front of the Hotel. We will come back again.

Lauren L.

Yelp
Amazing place to stay!! Everyone was so nice! The rooms are clean and big. The owners are lovely. 10/10 recommend staying here.

Yelp
I drive to San Francisco twice a year and the Victorian Inn is my halfway point. After the first stay, I was hooked and return time and again, never disappointed. Ferndale itself is charming and pastoral, the entire town is a historic district. The VI takes you back in time with its beautiful, elegant and comfortable rooms filled with Victorian furnishings. WiFi is available and the rooms have small TV's but this is a place you want to unplug and experience the quiet leisure of bygone days over high tech entertainment. The restaurant and bar are a pleasure to visit with an upscale but reasonably priced menu of freshly prepared entrees to please even the discerning foody. The wine and beer lists have good offerings and the cocktails are exceptionally good with no skimping on the alcohol. The owner (Lowell) and staff are friendly, professional and accommodating. The occasional live music is in the genre of Glen Campbell and the Eagles. Breakfast is served as part of the hotel rate and menu items are made with fresh, quality ingredients. I prefer this setup over a B&B because I don't feel like being social and sharing the table with strangers in the morning. The Victorian Inn may not be the place for everyone but it calls me back time and again. I look forward to VI as my halfway point as much as I enjoy my final destination.

Patty K.

Yelp
Our stay at the Inn was fabulous. From check-in to check-out, the service was impeccable. We stayed in "Jessica's Haven". A very sweet and cozy room. Yes, there are quite a few stairs to the 2nd floor, but there is a landing halfway up and a "fainting" couch at the top! 24/7 coffee and tea are provided in the communal room, steps from your door. Very nice touch. We had dinner and the complementary breakfast in the dining room and it was excellent. Emily, our server, both mornings, was top notch. The town is right out of a fairytale. The buildings and shops, and the shopkeepers are wonderful. We are already planning our return to The Victorian Inn and the quaint town of Ferndale.

Yelp
Ferndale is called the Victorian Village for a good reason. The while town is filled with winderfully maintained and restored buildings from an era gone by. Victorian Inn is no exception. This lovely inn is conveniently located in the heart of the downtown area, close to all the shoos and restaurants. You don't have to go far for a great restaurant though, the VI restaurant is located on the lower floor of the inn and serves some outstanding dishes...I had the baked brie short ribs and the butterscotch pudding while hubby had the salmon and creme brulee. We agree that all of the item were very well made and worth the price of admission. We had a lovely corner suite with huge ceilings and all the quaint touches you would expect. The bathroom had been renovated and had a large shower with both traditional shower head and an overhead rainshower head. You can hear the volunteer fire department siren whenever it goes off, but I expect that you can hear it in any of the accommodations in town, I mean its supposed to be loud. While it can be annoying it is one of those great quirks that make small town visits do endearing, and a great story for those at home. If you find yourself in Northern California take the time to stop by Ferndale. It is a treat, and treat yourself by staying at Victorian Inn.

Yelp
This was our second stay because we were so satisfied with our first. About whatever detail you choose to enquire, positive superlatives are the probable answer.

Yelp
We recently stayed at the Victorian Inn while passing through Ferndale. It was typical of historic hotels I've stayed at on the Eastern Coast. We ate at the restaurant, and the food was better than I expected. For the most part we enjoyed our stay. If I was to try and find something critical of the actual hotel, the only thing would be the carpet needs attention. It has a slight smell like someone has used the carpet powder that gets vacuumed up at some point in the past, which never leaves a pleasant smell. Our problem actually happened in the bar area of the restaurant while waiting to be seated in the restaurant. Our group was a mixture of races/ethnic groups, White, Indian, and Chinese. A local woman that had been conversing with the lighter skinned women in our group actually had the gall to ask one of the women in our party if she had been raped by and forced into a relationship with her husband (dark skinned Indian) when he walked in with their 3 year old daughter, actually asking her to follow her to the bathroom to make this comment, with no other reason to think or ask that other than the fact he is darker skinned. Sadly, this woman is also a teacher in Ferndale, although I won't mention which grade she teaches. I'm a lifelong Georgia resident, with all of my family and ancestors having lived in the South (mostly country areas). It's kind of ironic that we as Southerners are always accused of racism, when in fact I have never heard anyone make a statement like that in the South. I sincerely hope the rest of the Ferndale locals are not this way, and will weed out any idiots in their mix, especially a teacher which can easily influence children, which just made the comments that much worse. The woman in our group was scared to tell me until we left Ferndale, since she knew I would of called out the local in the restaurant.

Yelp
We had a great quick stay here! The room was very clean and nice. Very cozy and we got a great nights sleep. We had chilled champagne waiting for us. The nice gentleman who checked us in made sure to tell us about the great pizza place that was still open. He couldn't have been nicer. When we woke up we had a great cup of coffee and a cute little breakfast box to go. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
By far one of the best places to eat in Humboldt County. Prices are a little more expensive than some other places but its completely worth it. Food quality is outstanding, many locally sourced meats and organic fresh veggies. Everything is made in house, and is seasoned very well and tastes fresh. Ive had many lunches and dinners here and have never had anything I didnt like. Its also never very crowded so its a nice quiet place for lunch or dinner. Staff is friendly and attentive and there is plenty of parking right out front. Come in and check it out, you wont be disappointed.

Yelp
Loved it! Great service - awesome view of the little downtown of Ferndale. Loved crossing over the old time Fernbridge past the creamery. A step back in time with all the modern amenities. We definitely will return. Very romantic.

Yelp
The Victorian Inn Hotel is a lovely, family owned establishment that's a perfect place to stay if you're looking to get away from the hustle & bustle of daily life especially from that in the San Francisco Bay Area. Formerly an office building called the Russ Building, the owners Jenny & Lowell have owned and operated The Victorian Inn Hotel & their lovely jewelry business in Ferndale, CA since 1999. I myself picked up a couple of layering-type malachite necklaces & pretty pink coral pair of earrings from their sweet bijou jewelry business in the main lobby. They've some wonderful selections of both artisan items as well as fine jewelry selections. We stayed overnight from December 24th through the 25th but even this short jaunt proved relaxing enough. Dinner reservations at 7:30PM featured a wonderful Christmas Eve menu of prime rib and filet mignon with twice baked potatoes and fresh asparagus & kale with a starter of cups of clam chowder or squash soup. There was a selection of deserts that were nice finishers for the meal. Historic Ferndale, CA has all sorts of interesting little events within in it that, while part of our small town America past, may seem eccentric to those who are unfamiliar with how small towns work. For example, there was the volunteer fire department siren that went off around 8PM that we heard from our room. Later that evening at about 11:30 PM, the sound of church bells (real church bells, not recorded) could be heard from one of at least four churches calling worshippers to midnight mass on Christmas Eve. If you're looking for complete and utter silence on Christmas Eve in what is one of the few small towns in Northern California still operating as it has been for over 100 years, you'll be disappointed. If you're hoping to step back in time where everyone knows everyone, kids ride their bicycles in the streets well after dark because each of the residents is looking out for one another and hospitality, kindness and comfort are the theme, then you'll probably be delighted as we've been. We've stayed on and off at the Victorian Inn Hotel during the holiday season for the past 10 years and have always had a pleasant stay. Thanks Jenny & Lowell! We'll be back again soon.

Yelp
We had a very nice stay at The Victorian Inn. The place is actually quite intimate, with only 33 well preserved and thoroughly enjoyable rooms. The skylight upstairs makes the whole place cheerful and bright. It is also quiet. Ferndale itself is a pretty quiet place but the Inn's 9" thick walls make for a very charming bunker. I read about the walls in the souvenir newspaper we received when we checked in. They don't make buildings like this anymore. We loved the high ceilings and even door hinges were decorative. Everything at the Inn was super clean and well cared for. There was zero dust on any of the window sills, for example. The lush drapes also seemed surprisingly clean. One more big plus was the hospitality of the owner. He knew where we were from and he greeted us very warmly during the really nice complimentary breakfast. I have to mention that the place was a little odd. We checked in in what appeared to be a jewelry store rather than a traditional lobby, there was no elevator, and the rooms were tiny. Our "suite" was 2 adjoining rooms with an old door in between. The communal lounge upstairs was also a little tired, and the shared old fridge in there was a bit of a fright. Many of these idiosyncrasies actually added to the charm of the place. One thing I can't forgive, however, is a mediocre shower. There was also a crazy variety of heating and cooling equipment, although none of the devices were particularly effective. It happened to be quite hot when we were there. Overall, great place, despite a few mostly charming historical quirks.

Yelp
I decided to stay here on the spur of the moment not knowing anything about Furndale. The whole town is a Historical Marker and a few movies among other things were made there. The one thing you can clearly tell in the movies when you watch them is the Victorian Inn. (Majestic and Outbreak) So staying there was even more fun after we left! The Victorian Inn is beautiful. Our room was big with tall ceilings. There is always drinks available in the common room which is beautiful in itself. You really feel like you are stepping back into a time when ladies wore long dresses and men fancy suits with hats. The amenities are basic but breakfast is really nice. I found the staff to be friendly as well as the other guests. I'll be going back for sure.

Yelp
Exceptional service, charming restaurant and our stay at the Redwood Suites was sublime. Our suite had a separate bedroom with two queen beds. Excellent for my friend and I to keep our own daily wakeup schedules, and a kitchen to fix coffee first thing in the morning and snacks in the evening when we didn't feel like a full dinner. Having said that, the evening dinners in the VI Restaurant were wonderful and breakfast (included every morning with our room rental) was excellent, too. Toscha was our helpmate daily--checked us in our first day, waited on us at breakfast several mornings, besides pointing out some of the local sites we shouldn't miss during our visit. Thanks! The town of Ferndale is a wonderful getaway. It is certainly off the beaten track but that is what makes it a special place. We had wanted to take a road trip there for years. We were not disappointed and plan to return next year! Our timing could not have been more perfect--rhododendrons and azaleas were in total bloom everywhere, everything is so green. So picture perfect. Be sure to visit the Ferndale Museum and Fern Cottage to get a sense of life in this Victorian town. My thanks to our docents at both venues! We learned so much and saw antiques implements we have never seen before.

Yelp
I have waited many years to travel to this Historical place. Staying at the Victorian Inn was so special to me. Even though it was a climb to the top floor, it was worth the stay. I appreciated the upgrade into the Brisa Room. Spacious for my needs. The sheets were so soft and I found the bed to be very comfortable. I enjoyed both morning breakfasts and dinner the first night of my arrival. The server Tasha was exceptionally kind and efficient. The owner Lowell was so nice and engaging at every table to see how we were enjoying our stay. I enjoyed browsing all the shops and the museum, not to mention seeing the architecture of the Victorian Inn, homes and churches. It was a wonderful semi retirement visit and hope to return soon. Thank you everyone for the special memories.

Yelp
Burger was amazing. The space is so comfortable, airy and calming. Our server, Alexandria, was wonderful. Five enthusiastic stars. I hope to visit Ferndale again soon; fell in love with this little town.

Yelp
Our stay at Victorian Inn was almost magical. The place is absolutely lovely. There are antiques everywhere. There are probably ten varieties of tea and coffee available 24/7 in a special guest room, which also has a cabinet full of games. Our room--Olivia's Room--was about twice the size of a typical hotel/motel room, and infinitely more attractive and comfortable. Everything you could possibly want was provided, and all with class. Want to listen to white noise, or some comforting sounds, while falling asleep in their super comfortable beds? There's a machine that does just that on the nightstand. Want to look out over lovely downtown Ferndale through a large bay window? Yep, that is there. Want a great restaurant on the premises? Check. Great service? Yep. And even though they were not doing the regular breakfast, each morning we received a croissant, yogurt, power bar, cheese, butter, jam, and coffee. I could go on for another fifty lines, but how about this: My wife and I are already making plans to return...and we NEVER go to the same place twice.

Yelp
A wonderful place to stay in this cute and historic town. The buildings victorian architecture is wonderfully preserved inside and out. The rooms are clean and well kept. However, what really makes this place a 5 star location is the friendly staff. In fact everyone we encountered in this lovely town was very friendly. Oh yeah, and don't be fooled by the 3 star rating for the restaurant. We ate the complimentary breakfast provided with our room and it was delicious! My wife and I had an omellate, my son had a fresh fruit yogurt and my daughter had a Belgium waffle. We all left 100% satisfied. We had dinner out the night before and came back wishing we had eatin at the VI.

Yelp
The Inn is elegant and beautiful. All rooms are very quiet. The restaurant is amazing. Everything is spotless and extremely clean. The service is outstanding. This is just a great place to stay if you are visiting Northern California.

Yelp
You enter into another era as soon as you open the hotel lobby door. Those stairs are a doozy. But, they are also a beautiful work of art. The room was cute and cozy. No wasted space that's for sure. The bed was comfy. Totally recommend and hope to go back, again.

Yelp
This is just for the tavern. Our first night in Ferndale we wanted a drink and light supper and opted for the tavern and not the dining room - great choice! We started with wine or a superb Cider Mule that was the special that day. For supper, we ordered from the salad/soup and appetizer menu and they were more than happy to accommodate. They had live music - guitar and singer - in the dining room which was perfect for background and yet we could easily talk. I had the clam chowder, my friend had pulled pork sliders and we can recommend both.

Yelp
Lovely hosts, charming town, beautifully preserved building, good food and a spectacular bar. Two nights wasn't long enough to explore the town, the redwoods and the beaches.

Yelp
What a charming Inn! The rooms were very nicely appointed, comfortable bed and large open spaces to relax and enjoy this unique and lovely town. The bar and restaurant were superb with imaginary dishes that will please any pallet. The Inn and restaurant were highly recommended from those I met. The staff at both facilities were amazingly friendly which made for a grand experience. Great menu and wine selection - wonderful choice of easy listening music top it off! Thank you!
