Yelp
I stayed here for a week in April of '19 with my then-fiancée (now wife). She booked our visit through Welk Resorts, and we were not looking to buy into anything. It's true that the employees constantly hound you about coming to presentations. This happens from the moment you arrive. (In fact, I think they purposely delay your check-in, telling you that the room isn't ready yet, in order to make you sit through one or two pitches.) This is the major drawback of staying here. My wife always told them that we weren't interested and so we never sat through a presentation. About halfway through our stay, the maids stopped coming to clean our room and we wondered if this was a tactic to get us to change our minds; it wasn't a huge deal except for the fact that our garbage started piling up.
During our stay, it was a ghost town too. We thought it was because of the season, but after reading other reviews on Yelp, it appears to be the norm. If you like quiet and relaxed, however, it shouldn't bug you.
In April, it wasn't hot enough to swim in the pool. And as other reviewers have mentioned, it's not safe to swim at the beach there. (Try heading south to Chileno Beach, an awesome little beach with white sand, calm water and snorkeling. It's about a 20-minute drive via Uber.)
There is a day/nightclub that does play loud music at all hours. Since our room was located on the opposite side of the resort, it didn't really bother us.
They have a regular bar/restaurant (Casa Calavera) that we liked and a fancier option that we didn't try. There's also SHOREbar, a cute little bar outside that's chill. If you don't go for happy hour though, be prepared to pay $17 for one cocktail!
The resort is about a 20-minute walk from charming downtown San José del Cabo, and we enjoyed going there a few times. There are also some bar/restaurant options right across the street from the resort.
The resort itself is small but very nice and well-maintained. The non-sales staff is friendly and eager to assist you. The rooms are large and accommodating (We made good use of the kitchen for meals.)--though, as others have mentioned, you can hear your neighbors if they're loud.
Lastly, be aware that upon check-in, they give you Vidanta wristbands that will make you easy prey for anyone trying to sell you something outside of the resort. Unfortunately, you can't take them on and off.
