***WARNING*** BEWARE OF JOEY THE MANAGER'S IRRATIONAL TEMPER***
!!!!!!LOOK OVER THE INSPECTION BEFORE LEAVING THE LOT AND TAKE PICTURES!!!!!
Initially, Joey the manager, seemed very helpful. He dropped the charge for a day that I missed due to travel issues. Although, I think he had to do that anyway...
All was good with pick up. I had my sister who was already on the island to pick up the car before they closed at 18:30, since my flight was delayed.
They arrived right before closing, so the inspection was done in the dark and was somewhat rushed. During that inspection, Betty (who was very helpful and courteous) ran a finger over a quarter-sized dent in the passenger side and said "big dent, surface damage". Val, the house manager for the beach home I had rented was witness to this. However, Betty did not mark it as such on the contract. It was only marked "surface scratches". There were old scratches all over the car, including a sizeable one that ran the length of the passenger side. Both the scratch and the large dent were obviously old.
Here's where it gets whacky. When we returned the car, Joey was there. He was not very courteous, but more curt instead. He said he needed to inspect the car. He then went on to say that the dent in the passendger side was a new occurrence, and that he didn't remember that being there from the last rental. It was also not marked on the contract, and he "had to go by what's on the contract".
Hmmm. Ok. I kept my cool, and my sister tried to explain to him that he needed to call Betty to confirm that the dent was indeed present prior to us taking the car. We had not struck anything, and nothing had struck us. Vieques is a small island, and although parking is pretty liberal, the locations where we parked could not have allowed such damage to the car. Joey's answer was that someone could have hit us while we were parked. OK..so you're telling me that after you charge me for the damage, that you are going to get that old dent fixed? I think not. If the scratched wereren't dealt with, I highly doubt this old dent would be fixed.
During this conversation with Joey, he was waving his middle finger precariously close to my face. I then calmly asked him to stop to which he replied, "I can point my finger at whoever I want". Really??
At this point, my sister got a little heated and said something about the pointing...I honeslty can't remember exactly what was said. I do remember Joey pointing his middle finger at her and thus began the yelling match between Joey and my sister. Joey threatens to call the police.
I try and quell the argument, and go out and re-inspect the passenger side. I am again CONVINCED that this is OLD DAMAGE, and tell Joey to go ahead and call the police.
Long story shortened, my sister takes me and my friend to the airport so that we wouldn't miss our flight. Upon her return to the rental place, she sees Joey leaving. No police. Betty shows up and apologizes for the craziness and does not charge us for the old damage. Per Betty, Joey called the owner instead of the police. The owner asked me to email him. I will basically copy and paste my review in an email to him.
This is by far one of the worst and most unprofessional experiences I have EVER HAD.
