US Territories Americans Can Visit Without a Passport That Feel a World Away

"Travelers can get to Puerto Rico without a US passport using a valid government-issued ID. San Juan offers lively nightlife and historical sites like La Fortaleza and El Morro. For nature lovers, Vieques features the Bioluminescent Bay and pristine beaches."

Rough one lane roads to get there but well worth the drive. Spectacular scenery when you get out to the west side of the island. Small private beautiful beaches with few crowds an great snorkeling with two waves and a variety of sea life..

Fantastic area with opportunities for hiking snorkeling diving fishing boating or just enjoying time on the beach. The Refuge has many locations available for all of these activities and is free to the public. We enjoyed both hiking locations and beautiful beaches with clear water. On another occasion I enjoyed a Shore dive from one of the beaches where there was an excellent Reef.

What a beautiful place. It's off the beaten path a bit but well worth the views

Beautiful, secluded beaches and great snorkeling. 100 percent worth visiting. Spent the day on Playa La Chivas. Nice picnic shelters. Rocks on the left of the beach have good snorkeling. Island in the bay also has good snorkeling.

Awesome place, so many cool beaches in the reserve. My favorite is probably blue beach / la chiva (shown in pics). It's in my top three beaches on the island with Sun bay (not in reserve) and Green beach (west side of reserve, also shown in last photo). But honestly all the beaches in Vieques are pretty awesome and if you happen to not fall in love with the one you can drive down the road a bit or around the corner and find another. Heck yeah.

Playa Caracas is my all time favorite beach! Calm, clean & the epitome of tropical beaches. I can't get enough of this beach. Try going out early in the morning to swim and just soak in the magical vibes of Vieques. Newly installed restrooms are a plus. Also, La Chiva is another closer by beauty. The private pull offs give you the feel of being on your own secluded beach.

Beautiful beaches with a touch of mystery. These beaches were once used by the US navy so at every possible place there is warnings of places not to go or what to do if you find munition. Seeing the aftermath of the hurricane is extremely humbling but encouraging knowing that the amazing people here are so resilient. Aside from the above, the beaches weren’t crowded at all and the beaches. Side note: We didn’t need a 4x4 to get to any of the places we explored.

Two days there as a first time tourist.Pleasant inexpensive friendly helpful people. Good snorkeling once we found it. good night life. Hostel like bathroom and kitchen shared was pleasant and economical. Comfortable night streets with children playing. Mobile Loudspeakers playing loud music were irritating at first but became part of the game of "Island Life". In two days people recognized us all over the island. "You wont get lost. After all its an Island." Bioluminescent bay diminished by moonlight but was reported as worthwhile by those who went kayaking under full moon.
