"Anthropologists will especially enjoy the Museum of Ethnology that explores the 54 officially recognized ethnic peoples of Vietnam. Exhibits include a brief primer on each group and information about their folkways; in the museum’s 10 acres of grounds, there are additionally replicas of dwellings that visitors can enter. For those with an interest in textiles, the varied designs and techniques of Vietnam’s different ethnicities will be fascinating. There are also water-puppetry performances on weekends."

Amazing 🤩 I read rave reviews and it truly lived up! There are 3 main sections - the main building, kite building and outdoor exhibitions. For you to understand the bigger picture, you will need to visit the main building first. A simple walk through tells the story of different ethnicities of Vietnam and their culture, in depth enough to get a grasp. I was surprised at the vast groups of ethnicities. It unfolds the lives of people living by the coast, river, plains, and highlands. Allocate 1,5 hours here if you are the type that reads everything. The kite building host exhibitions of Southeast Asia, it varies from time to time. When I was there, there was an exhibition of textiles & costumes. Very interesting, allocate +/- an hour here. The outdoor area consists of real ethnic houses, down to the decor, tools, and display of a typical dwelling. The original craftsman was invited to build the houses on site, each one telling a story. The story of things in the main building comes to life in the outdoor exhibition. Allocate 1,5 hours here. All in all, if you can only do 1 museum in Hanoi, pick this one! Definitely worth your time.

I needed to get out of the heat today so I spent a few hours here. Beautiful exhibits and so much information about the huge variety of cultures in Vietnam. Very enlightening. The garden in particular was stunning and I also really enjoyed the sections about mahuts and their elephants. For 40,000VD entrance it is well worth it and you'll definitely learn something you never expected!

Stunning museum which you can spend 3hours+ at and for only 40k. There are 3 sections: the main building (goes through different ethnic groups), kite building (much broader range of exhibits including a while floor for Korea), and the outdoor exhibit which has many culturally significant buildings from the various ethnic groups. The best museum we visited in Vietnam covering a wide range of areas and all very interesting with lots of detail.

Good morning. I present to you the Ethnological Museum 😄. Although it is in the center of Hanoi, it is a little further out. In it you will learn over the years how people lived in the villages, how the Vietnamese live together with elephants , how huts were built (differently in each region, how they dressed in folk costumes, you can see everyday objects, handmade sculptures, dishes, etc. A beautiful place. In addition to what I mentioned above, there is a new building and seasonal exhibitions in it. Hours needs to see all The entrance fee is only 40,000 VND

If you're in Hanoi, you should definitely stop by. This is one of my favorite museums I've visited in all my travels. They do a wonderful job of celebrating the different ethnicities that make up Vietnam. My only regret is that I didn't go before my trip to Ha Giàng because I feel like this would have provided a lot of context for what I saw there

Absolutely loved how they have incorporated the culture of various parts of Vietnam at one place. This museum is worth spending a couple of hours, specially there life-size house models are extremely beautiful, and it is very inspiring for the people who are working towards sustainable development and ecological construction. As an architect I learned a lot from those structures. The textile design by the ladies of countryside is absolutely breathtaking. Amazing choice of colours, combination and parents.. If you are any person related to Art design or architecture, then this is a must visit place.

This museum was a pleasant addition to our itinerary in Hanoi. I thoroughly enjoyed the exhibits in the main building and the huts in the garden. They have put in a lot of work and the ticket is more than fair!
