Vietnam National Fine Arts Museum – The Best 10 Yuan You’ll Spend in Vietnam - This is probably one of the best-value experiences in Hanoi. The entrance ticket costs only about 30,000 VND (around 10 RMB), and when I visited on a weekend afternoon, it was almost empty — very peaceful and enjoyable. Inside, you can see silk paintings and lacquer paintings. Vietnamese lacquer art shares historical roots with traditional Chinese lacquer painting (often seen in videos like Li Ziqi’s), but has developed its own techniques and aesthetic over time. What truly impressed me was being able to view original works up close — including pieces by Le Pho and other major artists. These are real, authentic artworks, not reproductions. For anyone interested in art and culture, this museum is absolutely worth visiting. Hanoi is generally a great city for food, drinks, and sightseeing. However, many so-called “street Michelin” spots and famous places like Long Waits Jazz — which appear in almost every travel guide — are clearly aimed at tourists. They’re fine to try once, but don’t take them too seriously. Overall, highly recommended if you want a meaningful and affordable cultural experience.

For only 40,000 entry there is so much to see. Lovely peaceful atmosphere. The collection is well curated with English signs and information that take you from ancient art forms to present day. The lacquer art was incredible to see first hand and we had a lovely time. We spent 2 hours here and didn't manage to see everything. Absolutely would recommend!

Pleasantly surprised with their contemporary art section, I didn’t realized such an old institution are also displaying contemporary works. However, there are rooms in which the floor is dirty and the lighting is unsuitable for the atmosphere. End note: Good work, though!

The Museum is a rabbit warren of rooms across several floors. Every space is interesting and full of excellent examples of the best of Vietnamese art over the centuries. The most modern period is well covered and this was a nice surprise. I spent nearly 2 hours there and was fully occupied. Afterwards, a got a hamburger from the on-site cafe. This was a good burger. I like burgers. 🍔

Wow... the hate some people are spewing here is utterly unnecessary and embarrassing. For those non-Viet'namese visitors, remember you are a GUEST here, and you should behave accordingly. Secondly, don't confuse your experience or opinion with the absolute truth, and finally avoid drawing attention to your own ignorance by banal comments. Some halfwit reported that the paintings are all fakes... 🤣 Really？In a National Art Museum in the capital city of a nation you really think they would display fakes? Other nincompoops have complained about the photography permit cost 😱 Allow me to explain, again... A person, institution, company, government or establishment offers a good or service at a price THEY deem appropriate. We as consumers either accept (according to our price sensitivity, elasticity, budget or morals ), or we don't, and we walk away. Pay or don't pay, your choice. And do you know why they charge? Aside from the fact that they can because it's their building, their history, their asset, and their heritage; they are no longer a French colony. They charge because if you take professional photos you won't spend money in the gift shop, you can also sell those images and make an income without paying royalties for the privilege, and finally, MANY people use the building (and other historical buildings), for wedding photos, celebratory photos, social media, and more. So why shouldn't they charge for that use? Show me a studio which allows you to photograph for free.

I have visited this place 2 times in the last two years. There are a number of awesome artworks and artifacts. So if you are into art, it is a must-visit. The building is old and the artworks are arranged sometimes in simple and traditional ways, which is also a charm of the country in my opinion.

There was a beautiful exhibition but it lasted only four days, that’s why the place was so overcrowded. I couldn’t spent enough time to look at those paintings, because everyone came with their own photographer to take photos. I wish the could arrange that exhibition once again. 😩

An informative museum with an extensive collection showcasing Vietnamese art through the ages. Card payments are accepted, which is convenient. However, the experience is somewhat diminished by the lack of air-conditioning and a musty smell throughout many rooms. While the exhibits are interesting, much of the art feels fairly traditional and basic with many pieces lacking descriptions. Worth visiting if you’re interested in Vietnamese culture, but be prepared for warm conditions inside.
