The market hall is apparently not large enough. A large part of the market extends around the hall into the side streets, giving the market its special experience.

What a delight to be offered so much choice and to talk about the products with the persons minding their stalls Lots of nice place to eat around and great value oysters to have just outside

As usual with France, this is a fabulous market which is used pretty much continually; I was in town over the weekend and stalls inside and out were open both days selling some amazing food; the bakery stalls outside were both top drawer, and the cheese range inside was similarly great (tomme with 7 flowers was one of the best cheeses I've ever had). It really shows up the UK when this is how food is bought, at a local market not (big generalisation) at a supermarket; I didn't see a decent size supermaket in the centre so guessing there are huge ones on the outskirts, but still.. this market sold amazing food and was rammed with people, main;y locals, every time I visited. It's in a nice part of the town too, with many old buildings lining the square the market is on, and lots of cafes too! If you're in town get yourself here and indulge in some amazing local food, and see what we're missing!

A wonderful covered market with all types of fresh food, especially fish and seafood. It is a pleasure to wander around. Wheelchair accessible from the front. On the Wednesday we visited there were also a lot of fresh vegetable and fruit stalls in the square and road in front. It's worth looking round first before buying as we noticed that prices differed significantly for similar produce. Well worth a visit!

Lived in La Rochelle for a year just after graduating from my first degree, and lived round the corner from the market. Loved going there back then and getting fresh fruit and vegetables, and on my two trips back to La Rochelle since leaving, I've loved going back to the market, and probably appreciate it more now given how I've evolved into an ever more ardent cook and foodie. The whole atmosphere is also friendly and lively, and the market hall is a lovely well-kept 19th century building too and worth looking at for that reason alone.

A wonderful, buzzing market. Lots of beautiful produce. We went on Wednesday when the market spills out onto the street.
