View 42º Restaurant & Bar

Christmas lunch. Expensive. Zero atmosphere, you wouldn’t even know it’s Christmas, not a piece of tinsel anywhere, awful music… like a nursing home! Considering we are next to the sea, the calamari was like rubber, average prawns, zero vegetarian options except for stodgy ravioli, dry old noodles, and old vegetables turned into salads(I was a Chef… I know). So disappointing. I also stated it was my husbands 50th… no one cared. Asked to put the fire on only to be only told ‘ oh sorry we don’t light fire when people are in as it’s Smokey… are you kidding me .. it’s 11 degrees.Bizarre!!!!! Don’t do it. Feel ripped off and totally disappointed. An absolute rort almost $400 for 2 adults 2 kids. Expected more from Tasmania’s fishing village. Aside from this dire lunch, Tasmania is amazing. Just don’t come here.

The best part about this Restaurant is the views given it is high up and overlooks the Macquarie Harbour in Strahan. The food quality is okay and similar to your standard RSL bye-bye. It was okay. The service is nice and the team were friendly, and again the best thing was the ability to sit outside when the weather is good enjoy a drink and look at the amazing views. If you factor the views into your value consideration, then it’s probably worth the $65 Per person.

Good buffet with a variety of items. Kids are half priced. Good to aim for a late dinner so you can also enjoy the lovely sunset

There was plenty of good food on the table the evening we dined. The best dish on the buffet table was by Chef Zahir. I believe it was Nasi Goreng! The flavors were fantastic! Great views from the deck, bar, and restaurant.

We enjoyed our dinner and drinks with georgeous views. The staff were so friendly. We had a lovely time.

I had a very disappointing experience at Strahan Village. According to their website, the restaurant closes at 8:30 PM, while Google lists it as closing at 9:30 PM. I planned my evening based on the Google hours and arrived around 8:20 PM, only to find the restaurant already closed. The receptionist was unhelpful and insisted I should have checked the website. When I pointed out the discrepancy, she reiterated that the kitchen stops serving at 8:00 PM, and that the information wasn’t clear on the site. It’s important to note that this is a buffet-style restaurant with plenty of food options, so it would have been easy to accommodate me. Instead, I was sent away hungry. I explained that I was staying at the village and was hungry, but the staff showed no willingness to help. On the phone with the manager, I was told that they only accept guests who made a reservation before 8:00 PM, and that the kitchen stops serving at 8:00 PM. This information was not communicated clearly beforehand. Ultimately, I was left without any dinner options, and the staff were unresponsive and dismissive. Because of this poor service and the misleading information, I’m giving them one star. They really need to improve their communication and customer service.

The buffet has fresh produce from the land, lamb and smoked salmon, dessert and tea and coffee. The best part is the view for us to enjoy the harbour and sunset.

The only really good feature of the restauarant is the view across the bay. The food was quite disappointing: there was an a la carte menu posted but, when I asked the waitress, she said that there was NO a la carte available?! The fish slecection was very limited and overcooked - apart from the smoked salmon, which, as you would expect, was raw - but we had to ask for lemon slices to go with it. There was no cheese board. We had to order our drinks at the bar, though they were brought to our table quite promptly.

Awesome buffet and I am not usually a fan. The seafood was fresh and the other sides were fantastic. The ambiance and view are amazing. Great meal.

The restaurant is in an amazing location perched on a hill overlooking Strahan with sweeping views over the harbour. We generally prefer to avoid buffets but we wanted to sample some Tasmanian seafood and we were very happy that we tried it. There was a good selection of cold and hot food and it was all very well prepared and presented. We particularly liked the ocean trout and the Thai seafood salad. We were a little disappointed with the desserts (a little bland and unimaginative) and we thought that there should have been a cheese board featuring Tasmanian cheeses.

Incredible!! I would advise booking a reservation in advance. The food here is incredible for only $60 if you get an all-you-can-eat buff a with fresh fish and seafood and other glorious mains you can't go wrong! Then there is the desserts! I need to stay here for a week and learn just to enjoy the food at view 42. I complement the chef on his high standards, And would recommend this place to any of my friends and family.

Five stars for the view! Perched on the hilltop overlooking Strahan harbour it is part of the Strahan village complex. Food is served as a buffet, eat as much as you can for $55 per person. Seafood is excellent, freshly caught locally, and there is a changing selection of hot dishes. You may have arm wrestle some of the large number of pensioners on bus tours, who load up on the oysters. They stay for one night before the Gordon River cruise the following day (...). Service is friendly and quick, and the buffet gets topped up continuously. Be daring, step back into the 90s decor, bring the average age of the diners here down, and experience what an excellent buffet can be like!

After checking into Strahan Village we were shown the Menu at the on site restaurant View 42 deg and booked in for the Gourmet Buffet Dinner that evening. We asked for a table with a view for our wedding anniversary and they delivered even going as far as a bunch of take home flowers as decoration ... so cute. On arrival we were knocked out by the view over the quaint township and wharf. There was a roaring open fire and an amazing sun drenched deck. We were greeted by Lee on the Bar who helped us choose the perfect bottle of bubbles. After a glass on the deck we're were shown to our table by the wonderful Meg she was so friendly also professional and made you feel instantly comfortable whilst she informed us of all the food on offer at the bistro. Meg finished service and handed us over to Jennifer who was also extremely attentive making sure every one was looked after during the evening. The food was excellent we tried a little bit of everything and it was all very fresh and tasty. The locally sourced seafood was amazing. I had heard a lot about the town of Strahan and it had been on the bucket list for years, when I got there I must admit I was underwhelmed but after our dinner experience we are definitely returning.
