"The 29 rooms at this 13,000-acre winery are each completely unique: in the Chile suite, sisal covers the walls and the doors are carved from cork; in the Norge suite (in honor of Alex Vik’s Scandinavian heritage), contemporary works by Norway’s best-known artists hang alongside rare folk textiles. You can ride horses through the vineyards, or taste en primeur vintages in the oak-paneled library. Note that this property used to be called Viña Vik Millahue."

"Set the scene Having acquired an enormous slice of land in Chile’s Millahue Valley, a craggy, robust environment, the Norwegian investor and art collector Alexander Vik planted nearly 10 percent of it with vines in 2006, and is already producing some of the country’s most revered wines. The adjacent property, Puro Vik, might equally lay claim to being Chile’s best hotel. What’s the story? Vik began to diversify into hotels in 2009 when, having built a 12-bedroom Spanish-colonial-style ranch in José Ignacio, near Punta del Este in Uruguay, where his maternal grandmother came from, he turned it into a hotel. That property, Estancia Vik, was the first Vik Retreat; Puro Vik is the fifth. What can we expect in our room? Each casa is different. Letras, for example, is named after the graphic art on its walls and comes with a De Sede chaise lounge shaped like a giant red-and-white boxing glove; a desk lamp crafted from the headlamp and handlebars of a Vespa scooter; and a safe and fridge concealed within what looks like a retro petrol pump. How about the food and drink? There’s no choice at supper. One night it’s Italian: a translucent carpaccio of veal with an airy mousse of avocado and polenta crisps, exquisitely fine pasta flavored with squid ink, filled with white fish, and dressed in a deep green sauce of local herbs. The next, it could be bao buns and pork belly, followed by ramen with prawns. First courses come accompanied by a glass of Milla Cala, the estate’s second wine (the red is a Bordeaux-like blend of cabernet sauvignon, cut with merlot, carmenère, syrah, and cabernet franc) and the grander Vik cuvées follow. Anything to say about the service? We couldn’t fault the staff (nor the eight horses, who get equal billing in the directory found in each room, “because they work too”). Most are Chilean, though Williams the engaging Venezuelan waiter is the one we remember most fondly. However many you may have visited in the past, it’s worth doing the tour of the estate’s state-of-the-art winery. Even the most seasoned wine aficionados will learn something. What sort of person stays here? Oenophiles, contemporary art buffs who like the outdoors. As the hotel’s Argentinian general manager, Pablo Ferral, noted, Puro Vik “isn’t for everybody. It’s not a place for kids or babies.” What’s the neighborhood scene like? It’s located in the depths of the country, 17 miles from the nearest town (San Vicente de Tagua Tagua, not worth the detour) and about 100 miles (about two and half hours) south of Santiago airport, so kick back and stay put. Anything you’d change? Puro Vik shares its grounds with marginally less rarefied Vik Chile next door, which opened in 2014. It’s hardly a snag, but it does mean the spa, gym, and art-filled sitting room can fill up when the weather is bad, and it’s unlikely that the pool is ever empty. Is it worth it? Each casa is extraordinary both in terms of its architecture and the art and design it contains. Staying amid work of this beauty makes for enduring memories." - Claire Wrathall

"Chile’s picturesque wine country is already wanderlust-inducing for even the most well-seasoned traveler. But now, the newly opened Puro Vik hotel, comprised of 19 glass-walled bungalows overlooking the Millahue Valley, makes it even more of a must-go. Tucked into the hilltops not far from Puro Vik’s sister property, Vik Chile (and the adjoining Viña Vik vineyard and winery), the gorgeous glass houses are the ultimate example of form meets function: the transparent structures and their gravity-defying positioning offer unparalleled views of the surrounding vistas, while luxe interiors and individualized design mean that each hut provides its own unique form of sanctuary." - Laura Neilson

Beautiful spaces energize me, and VIK Chile is absolutely beautiful. The hotel is small with an interesting design. I loved the VIK corner suite with the floor to ceiling views of the mountains and lake. The bathroom set up while gorgeous wasn't the most practical. One note for the hotel is the mattress on the pull out bed was very uncomfortable.||We made use of the gym, hot tub, and sauna.|Breakfast was adequate; lunch was very tasty with two of the wines included in our rate. We tried some items on the snack menu, but they were quite underwhelming. The staff we met for the most part are young and friendly, but some seemed new and unsure about their role.|The highlight was the garden tour, and it was very cool to see some of the items on our plates came from said garden. ||The hotel doesn't have much around, but it is a wonderful place for a short getaway and worth the rate we paid. Would recommend.|

Vik Chile is a small luxury avant-garde hotel deep in Chilean wine country, each room is designed by different artists, very unique, named rather than having a number. Our room was spacious with floor to ceiling window looking out to mountain view. |The winery is a very innovative structure, littered with sustainable energy design. |On a clear day in the evening, with total darkness, take the opportunity to get a good view of the southern sky far away from the pollution of city lights, it is stunning.|Food is good, service a bit slow, but then there's no rush going any where, just enjoy the tranquility of the area ....and the wine.

Remarkable setting … Although lights and AC are tricky to adjust. the rooms are lovely, bohemian, and comfortable. The outlooks and grounds are amazing with water features, and mountains and vineyards views. We enjoyed a horse ride, a lookout hike, and vegetable garden tour. Dinner? Overpriced and poor execution with food served cold and ill-timed. We were two people - our dinners came out more than ten minutes apart. Neither server acknowledged that they’d missed in their service or even asked if everything was good. The special lamb ravioli was almost inedible. We noticed folks at our neighboring table sent theirs back. Breakfast? Lovely spread with breads, cold cuts, cereals, fresh fruits, juices, and eggs.

Somewhat tired rooms. Really unusual bathroom setup with the shower flooding the toilet due to poor design. Food was ambitious, with lunch and dinner very modern with some hits and misses. Breakfast was very mediocre, stale bread, very average coffee Wine served during lunch and dinner was OK but weirdly enough they did not serve their main VIK wine only their 2nd and 3rd wines

We spent 2 nights at Vik Hotel, Chile in October. We were picked up with the hotel transfer from the airport with a car with a broken window. Upon arrival and without any welcome drink we observed lack of maintenance with stained rugs and sofas in the living room. We were taken to our bungalow designed by a japanese arquitect ‘Hiroshige’. The room had no black out difficulting sleep and there were problems with electrical lighting (light outage at night). There was no other room available. In general rooms at Vik Hotel are design oriented without emphasis on functionality. Swimming Pool without heating and jacuzzi must be prereserved. I missed the nice bar for socializing abd having that pre dinner Pisco Sour. The service is mainly done by young students without experience. Food is excellent and the vinyard tour worth while. Our transfer back was late and with the same vehicle with the broken window. VIK is a tourist pass through hotel without coziness, customer orientation and 5 star flair. I do not recommend. Clos Apalta is a much better option for couples and smaller groups. VIK is more for large groups of tourists looking for a designer room outside of the chilean context.

This is a very special place. Everything is amazing. We were out there for a meeting, but my husband joined and we stayed one night. The winery is amazing in itself and the food is outstanding. Everything we ate was delicious. It was my birthday and the staff at dinner sang to me….and they had been practicing in English! So sweet! A memory I’ll never forget. We also went to the spa for a couples massage and that was amazing too. Only wish we could have stayed longer and hiked, etc…a little too chilly for the pool, but it looked lovely.

Beautiful hotel and very relaxing. The showers are not realistic and very slippery. The staff is very nice and professional. The wine is fantastic and overall it’s a great place. We Definitely recommend it. The bbq and cooking class were amazing and the chef and his team were fabulous.

Amazing and very out of the ordinary hotel 2 plus hours away from Santiago, Chile. The hotel is located within. a winery. From afar, the unique architecture was the first thing we found striking. Each room is designed Cuban artist. The service was very friendly. Food very delicious. Fruits from their garden. The scenery very beautiful. We did wine tasting, horseback riding etc. A bit pricy but well worth it.
