Iceland Itineraries: From 1 Weekend to 1 Month (Updated 2025)

"I stayed at Vík HI Hostel in the charming seaside village of Vík — it’s budget‑friendly, has a café/bar and family rooms, and is a convenient base for exploring the nearby black sand beaches and glacier views." - Matthew Kepnes

This hostel was much better than I thought it would be and for the price it's a really good value. Whoever is in charge of cleaning they honestly need a raise! You could literally eat on the floor. The room and the toilets were absolutely sparkling. From what I saw it has 2 toilets with shower and an extra bathroom with 3 more toilets, I never had to wait to use any of them. It also has a full equipped kitchen and a dining room next to it with amazing views. We had one of the private rooms and I could see the church and the town. We didn't get to meet the owners but we made friends with 2 of the dogs (there are 3 of them and there is a picture of them with their names in the living room). The tiles with Spanish folklore in them made me laugh as I'm from Spain and it was so random. Thank you for making our 2 days in Vik so comfortable, we felt right at home.

If you’re headed to Vik, this hostel has affordable accommodation in a fabulous setting on top of a hill with great views. The dorms have lots of room for your bags, shared bathrooms are kept clean and the kitchen is well equipped. The private rooms are especially large, great views, comfy couch and plenty of space to do some yoga. They sell eggs from their chickens that roam their property, and beautiful Iceland wool hats. The folks who run it try hard to oblige their guests, going beyond to make a memorable stay. Highly recommend it.

We found this place to be quite good other than the high cost. There was free parking, a good room with spotless shared bath, and the kitchen and rest of the place were all very clean. Some minor noise at night, but nothing to keep us up. We booked late so we got walloped on price, but so it goes.

We loved our stay at vik hi hostel ! Even though we never saw anyone at the reception it was not a problem at all and the self check in was really convenient for us. The dormitory and the bathrooms were super clean and the shared kitchen was great and very useful ! And there were a lot of chickens, ducks, horses, dogs and a cat : so nice to watch them and play with the dogs !

There was surely put effort in making House 1 a nice place, but the essentials were far off. Mould and dirt in the matrasses, poor heating (at the ceiling ?), no lights in the cooking area, only 1 of 2 cooking zones working. All that for the price of €350/night, I will not want to remember this visit very long.

Great location. Room had a great view of the ocean. Up on a hill. Breakfast included. Kitchen was nice and big. Close to the main vik area. really a nice cozy place with dogs, a cat and few bird species to keep you occupied.

A very nice hostel in the area with a good ambient. It was quite crowded in August since we came with many other guests. It is perfect for you if you like the feeling to meet new people. They provided us with a really good breakfast. It was the best hostel breakfast that I have ever had. The waffle was so yummy. The bathrooms were clean. Cons: - Only one bathroom per floor but so far I don’t have to wait so long to use the bathroom. - The room was quite small for 4 people. We had the basement room and the ceiling was very low. Overall I and my friends had a good time in this hostel. We enjoyed our time in this hostel.

It was a great stay. We had a private room and it was just as we needed. Clean, comfortable and warm. Kitchen is fully equiped and they even left us a letter with discounts to nearby attractions and restaurants. Absolutly worth the money we paid.
