This review is based on dining at Vik Pensjonat. I didn't stay in the hotel, and yet it's obvious this would be a lovely place to stay.
I am VERY glad I came in here for a mid-day meal. Eidfjord is much more of a real, lived-in village than many tourist outposts at the tips of Norwegian fjords, and this locally owned hotel and restaurant really made me feel that. They take tremendous pride in preparing all their meals with local ingredients, to the extent that you can probably glance around the hills and see some of the farms where your food was raised (in the summertime, at least). My repast consisted of a generous portion of fresh cod with potatoes, vegetables, and a mild cream sauce. It was all so delicious and cooked so perfectly that it honestly made for the best restaurant experience I had during this two-week trip to Norway. I also had their homemade chocolate cake for dessert and it was, of course, just great. The service was super friendly, and the atmosphere was really cozy and comfortable. They also sell jars of their homemade honey, which I picked up to bring home as gifts. If you're in this beautiful part of the world and need a place to eat or sleep, I'm convinced you will find Vik Pensjonat og Hytter to be very satisfactory.
